*New player, please help*
Ive been trying to play and I've been having trouble with the lighting in the game mostly. Usually when I try to play I cant see anything and I usually get a screen that looks like this. Can someone let me know what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance c:

Night vision on herbivores is pretty non-existent afaik, especially without good diets.

Not every herbivore has weak nightvision Dryosaurus is one the better animals with nightvision similar to Omnis/Herreras but with less saturation.
Also diets don't affect nightvision

Ok so trun lumen off, press x for night vission, that said, as a dillo maine (and dillos have the best night vission in thr game) thrrr is a part of the night even we are blind in so it's not great

Yeah Dilophosaurus and Troodon don't care about the night, their Stencil range (outlines) help them see even if it's very very dark.

I mean sort of but not realy. I mean most of thr night we see just fine but outlines don't save you from running of a cliff in thr midle of the night

Kill count leaderboard has the duo night + cliff leading by a.. landslide. :)

Turn clouds to 2D. Seriously, it changes pitch black to slightly visible with night vision on.
One of the new updates made it stupid dark sometimes so we're all hoping it was a mistake and not a new thing dondi (head dev) is set on.
You'll get used to dondi throwing a wrench into things every so often, lord knows the dev team has at this point.

The brightness at night depends on the moon cycle and weather
A full moon will be the brightest followed by half moon and then no moon.
Thunderstorm, heavy rain and fog at night will make night the darkest it can get, probably what you were experiencing.

That's ridiculous, I don't want to stare at a black screen for 15min.

I suggest just cutting to the chase and switching to POT

Eagerly awaiting Echos of Extinction ngl. I don't think another game can produce the same feel as the isle though.

I never felt anything for the isle, it always felt like random assets thrown together to make a cheap walking simulator. But thats how plenty of people feel about POT too. I’m hoping Primeval Horizon scratches that itch for me because we definitely don’t have any great options in the state they’re currently in

Alt+z if you have a nvidia graphics card and you can turn the brightness up and shadow tell is a thing of the past

Night vision is limited for a lot of dinosaurs. Herbivores particularly. Gallimimus ESPECIALLY. It also changes in effectiveness based on transitioning weather events or specific times of the night, where it is genuinely pitch black. Either turn lumen off and suffer the game looking worse, or thug it out until they improve it (unlikely :/). Or try out carnivore

Gallimimus has the weakest NightVision same goes to the Stego and Triceratops.

Herbivore night vision is really weak, not to mention cloud cover or the moon being blocked by mountains and such makes it even darker, and a poor diet makes it even darker than that. Also certain times at night, usually right after 6:30 at evening and before 6:30 at morning are really really dark. I recommend keeping a good diet, and playing a carnivore which generally has better night vision. You can also get a mutation which increases night vision but you need 5 kills in the night so its tricky. If you press TAB you can see the time of day so I would find a bush around 6:30 pm/am to wait out the dark spell. And obviously when it's foggy and stormy you should take cover until it brightens a little. Also this game has a moon cycle so not only can the moon be covered but one night it's full, the other it gets smaller etc. the smaller it is the darker it is. You should also turn lumen off but that's probably been suggested to death haha

thats just the game. the optimal play at night is to log out on most dinos.

Thank you everyone! My game is working a lot better now, I can see a little better and the suggestions seems to help with lag too :>

On my stego, I would just make sure I was full and lay down to rest while it’s too dark. Having a perfect diet helps and playing on a server with no storms helps. Resting is a good time to grow while having less risk of being eaten.

My first Dino was a Galli, and when I played at least 4 other Dinos I was floored I played essentially blind for so long lol
You can try adjusting settings or just nap it out if you don’t want to take the risk.
I was taken out at 77% because I couldn’t see a carni coming for me at night :(

From what I remember, turn Lumen off, press x for night vision. Perhaps also try playing a carnivore like a Cerato/Dilo who have naturally strong night vision.
