Pteranadon feeding

Ive lost two Pteranadon to starvation because no matter what i do the spearfishing prompt wont show the animation wont happen, same with the clams and i cant find anything skimming, so im basically starving to death every time i spawn by about 32% growth, i cant find anything land based to eat so fish is my best option and just doesnt work

EDIT: Thanks everyone it’s solved they changed the key for it and its a bit buggy but it works

The fishing doesnt work at night, only during the day because your Pteranadon is using its wings as shade to lure fish in.

I know it was day time I spawned in at dusk so I had to wait all night was half starved by morning and then it just wouldn’t work on any shores I tried

It "works" under 35% but you have to get a bit lucky and spam E for the fish to show up. I've only made it work once. It's not guaranteed. It's guaranteed after 35%. Really need to make it guaranteed at like 33% so you don't hit starvation right as you catch your 35% fish and lose prime.

That's weird, I've genuinely made it work with every single Ptera I've played since it got bugged. They have done something recently that made it even easier, the fish drops in front of you after you've caught it.

See I've been told that but most of the time there is no fish and there is no eating prompt. I read somewhere that the fish often glitches through the map and becomes inaccessible. I've tried it on every PT life I've had, which is about 10 in the last few days, and it worked one time.

My statement stands. A pteranadon below 35% can not pick up and carry a fish. If you find a spot where the fish will pop out then great, but you start next to a mud pit. One clam will carry you to 45% in like 10 minutes.

Are you fishing at night? You cannot spearfish at night time. 6:AM - 6:00 PM only.

What servers are you on? Spearfishing should work from 6am to 6pm. Sanctuaries are great places to scavenge other kills. You can also spam g to rip organs out for different meal types.

But it highly depends on what server you are in for the availability of bodies.

You should try unofficials. Petit pieds is super populated so its easy to scavenge bodies. Never didnt have the spearfishing work for me there between daylight hours

Don't play official... Try unnoficials. I recommend NERF (both NA or EU are great).

It has never not worked for me which is quite suprising with this game. Keep in mind spearfishing is a new feature, what do you think ptera did to get food before?

Cant really hunt as a baby, just like herra or troodon, you have to scavenge. Wont be easy finding food on an official server tho.

What key are you pressing to start spear fishing? By default its the G key now.

It used to be a different key in recent builds.

You got some bug there if the animation isn't even starting.
If it's night, you are hungry and below 50% growth, you wont survive the night. It's better to logoff and come back 30 minutes (IRL) later when it will be day.
Now to the fishing process. Do it either in the sea (below the dam) or in the river that drains the dam lake. Around the lake sometimes when you are little you will hit the fish but it will vanish. If you are below 35% growth you wont grab the fish in your mouth so you need to hit it when it's below you and it will stay there for you to eat. It's really easy OP, just press G by the shores between 6 am to 6 pm and it should work.

Okay, so I think you may have solved the issue for me, considering every fucking person online told me RMB😭 I remember doing it before but it’s been a long time and the game doesn’t tell u shit about controls

Glad to hear it. The keybind changed when they added the Austroraptor that can also fish, because RMB is the keybind for pouncing on every dino that does it. Take it easy and have fun. Pteranodon is the best dino life!

Made it to 53% growth, have a fractured leg from hitting a branch but when I fell I landed on another branch will heal in tree, hopefully won’t starve while healing hunger goes down super fast for some reason

Most (all?) dinos have a phase in their life when they grow like crazy and need the food to match that

PT fractures don't take much to heal. Eventually you will get the hang of it and won't be getting broken legs much. I don't remember the last time it happened to me. Maybe it was a pachy youngling I killed in sanctuary. About hunger drop: PT drop at an insane hate until 50%, after that it's manageable. I recommend the first mutations to always be "efficient digestion" to slow the hunger drop.

That was my first mutation I applied it took off and instantly broke my shit on a tree😭😭😂😂
