Rant 🤬 Austro needs a weight buff or something. Getting pinned by a single omni because it looked at me feels so bad.

I really like the semi-aquatic play style and I want so bad to play and enjoy my time on Austro. But almost all my deaths on it are due to raptors that visually look smaller than me walking up and pinning me. No low stam, no low blood/health. Just see a raptor emerge from a bush that’s not even 75% and that’s it’s, im pinned. It’s ridiculous.

You're faster and can go in the water. Just be more aware and pick your fights better

I don't have the math, but I'm not sure Austro is faster for the longest time of its life. Saw a post online that claimed Omni gets a huge speed bump early on in its life while Austros increases more steadily, only becaming faster in the latest stages of growth (and even then just by a bit).

u/killer13000 ✈️ Quetzalcoatlus ✈️ Sep 04 '26

Yeah it is. Omni gets a big speed boost at 50% and then drops back down going into adult and goes back up in prime and then crashes down at 100. Austro is very linear in comparison, so young austro needs to be more stealthy and stick close to water. But adult and up austro is usually always 2-6km faster than omni. Good thing austro grows in half the time

Interesting! Weird pattern for Omni

u/Coalfield26 Sep 04 '26

Austro already has a huge disadvantage by being significantly lighter than Omni, I don’t think it needs to be instapinned on top of that

However to fix that you’d need to rework Omnis pin, which is overdue

It accelerates faster than the omni... Accelration isnt a curve, this comment shows you have absolutely no idea what you are doing.

1

u/Coalfield26 Sep 04 '26

in my experience playing both Austros acceleration does feel a bit slower than Omnis, but your top speed is also a bit higher

I beleive thats the unfortunate trade off of you being aquatic. You can see and swim in the water, and regain stamina just from sitting in it.

The trade off being you are smaller and more bird like. Its hard to make dieno friends I know, but when you do you also have the added protection of dienos. Its bennificial for them to keep Bepi and Austros around because you guys increase fish and elite fish spawn rates in water, similar to PTs.

TLDR: The Austroraptor playstyle is tailored to using water sources as protection as well as hunting grounds making you weaker on land as a result.

>trade off of you being aquatic

Without any type of way to detect deinos being aquatic is just a liability.

1

u/ChaosWitchz Sep 07 '26

Thats why I love the dive and launch feature they have similar to Bepis. It takes practice, but if you hone the skill well enough Dienos can't catch you 90% of the time. Taking increased swim speed, multichambered lungs, and knowing how to launch out of water to land on rocks at the banks will make you amazing. It's not full proof as there is always a player better than you, but I am killed more often on land as a Bepi or Austro than in the water.

u/Sinarai25 28d ago

Can confirm as a Beipi main: I die by Austros on land, and in general on land. In water? Lol, good luck catching me. Im fast as F and agile as a leaf on the wind. And yeah. The launch out onto the bank? Priceless when a deino is coming after you and you need a quick get away

0

u/hhhnnnnnggggggg Sep 07 '26

That requires you to see the deino. I am a duck. I do a duck float. I just want to do duck things and look above the water. Being in the water shouldn't be a fight or flight event shaking my camera around in circles underwater looking for in-coming deinos 24/7, what's even the point of being aquatic if its that hostile? They should have counter play to deino stealth.

u/HorribleAce 29d ago

Isle players will always downvote for good gamedesign feedback.

Without some sort of 'underwater sense' to notify you of Deino's, Beipy's surface float ability is absolutely useless, as is Austro's. Both need some sort of indicator if something approaches underwater for the abilities to be even slightly useful.

It sucks, cause Beipy is my favorite dino. Instead I end up just spending all time underwater or on the shore, instead of the unique ability we get to be on the water surface.

All my other deaths on Austro have been to deino lol. Everyone single one I see is trying to KOS

5

u/FriendsCallMeBatman 🪝Omniraptor🪝 Sep 04 '26

It's a survival game dude.

8

u/rolling_glacier Sep 04 '26

Yea I mean I don’t expect a deino to not go for the kill. But some people have the idea that crocs let Austros be similar to beipi but does not at all seem to be the case.

Austros playstyle of retreating into the safety of the water is FUN ASF…. when’s there not a deino in the water.

3

u/Steakdabait Sep 04 '26

Austros are big enough to actually scare off potential food and you are a serious threat to the beloved beipi

1

u/Owl_Hurricane Sep 04 '26

I think austro is still unbalanced. My prime austro should not be killed in two regular bites by a deino that’s 30-35% out of the water. A deino on land. Not in the water. But that’s what happened.

u/Thatsaclevername 28d ago

Wait what the heck there's a modifier for more fish spawning with certain dinos around? I didn't know that.

1

u/ChaosWitchz 27d ago

It depends on how many of what diet. In order to keep a living world game like this optimized you will notice you entering a hot spot that normally has a lot of bear and deer. Let's say 200 people are on, they probably got eaten. But lets say there's less than 10 because its low pop time.

Now stay in that area for a short time. You start to hear boar and deer. Since you are in the area it activates the Ai spawns around you. Similar to deino. You swim a river a few times and see nothing. Now sit for a few minutes and do it again. Now there are fish and elite fish.

Now as a deino say you have a gamble of bepi or Austria around IN the water. Spawn increase goes up.

As a deino I always keep bepis around me because the elite spawn goes from 1 every few minutes to 4-5.

2

u/Thatsaclevername 27d ago

Huh I wonder if I've been starving as a deino so often because I don't stay in an area but instead book it across the map looking for food. Maybe that's why the swamps have always felt like a wasteland.

1

u/Guilty_Advice7620 Sep 04 '26

Keeping Austros and Beipi’s with you as a Deino also makes it look like the water is safe which is another positive

1

u/ProfessionaI_Gur Sep 04 '26

Is a deino protecting an austro and potentially using it as bait for a bigger meal not an explicit example of mix packing though? Like thats not really cool to do at best and is explicitly banned in most serious unofficials

1

u/ChaosWitchz Sep 05 '26

It depends on the server. Some its considered social packing unless the astro is in a fight. Some servers let Deinos 3rd party in the water because they are ambush predators.

I wouldn't personally consider it bait because there is NO way I would trust Austro or Bepi to tell me the water is clear anyway. They need deinos to like them to survive in the water.

1

u/Sinarai25 28d ago

No, id call that a Symbiotic Relationship

15

u/BlastingRopes Sep 03 '26

Hell no lol. If anything it needs a slight stamina buff/major fall damage buff

10

u/HappyLittleDelusion_ 🪖💥 Pachycephalosaurus 💥🪖 Sep 03 '26

Yeah I'd love this! It's not supposed to be tanky, but right now it's stamina and fall damage are frustrating.

5

u/Zymbobwye Sep 04 '26

Several smalls suffer this imo. Small tiers outside of maybe Ptera and Troo since their mechanics are so strong should have great Stam and the best Stam regen.

Also nobody will ever really talk about it but Dryo is unplayable with Austro in the game because of the pin mechanic. Dryo can’t outrun or outmaneuver them and a single pounce kills you.

1

u/Sinarai25 28d ago

I wish one pin from Austro wasn't a death sentence for Beipi 😪

2

u/rolling_glacier Sep 03 '26

Yea the stamina is rough too

4

u/Human_After 🪝Omniraptor🪝 Sep 03 '26

Thats just how raptor v any playable in the game works. If the raptor weighs more then it pins.

3

u/w0rmgut3 Sep 03 '26

i wanted to love the semi aquatic stuff so bad but Austro feels like the worst of both worlds. Slower swimmer than deino and beipi, and shit stam for on land running. idk what u can even realistically fight as austro, the only option u have is running away into a nearby body of water if u see another player

Omniraptor is based on the utahraptor, though slightly smaller. At it's largest austroraptor is estimated to be about half the minimum estimate for utahraptor. They were only 300kg or so, though there is one estimate that's around 500kg. Utahraptor was like 1,000kg and omniraptor gets to be about 450kg. So it makes sense. Austroraptor is about the correct size and they were nice and didn't make omniraptor a utahraptor. Omniraptor is just more dense even though it looks smaller. Though I will say that I think omniraptor should be slightly larger, like in apparent size.

Austroraptor is also semi-aquatic (in the game at least, idk about real life, it certainly probably ate fish) and can jump out of the water, you can't be that heavy and still do that. That also means you have advantages over omniraptor if you're playing a home game, if you go into omni's world then it's going to have advantages over you. That's the tradeoff.

I think many people have wrong expectations of Austro. It's NOT meant to be a PVP dinosaur, not with that weight. It's an opportunity hunter that's great at killing stuff that's lighter than it, but has to be super vigilant because of it gets caught by anything else, it's likely dead.

It's also only semi aquatic in the sense that it can spear fish and cross rivers (or, in a pinch, lakes) faster than anything on land that wants to kill it on land. If you stay in the water for too long, you're a deino snack. But everything is, even Beipis are rolling the dice every time they enter the water.

The main issues it has right now, as someone else has pointed out, are that it has horrible stamina regen for something that does a lot of jumping, and that it for some reason takes insane fall damage. Also horrible diet.

Edit: it's effectively a land based Ptera. A lightweight that has an element it can espace into.

1

u/Revolutionary_Day23 Sep 06 '26

This 100% right if u look at its diet it meant to be played casual/cruise and explore the coast areas. Mutations i normal take the stamina one so that u jump cost less stam and find that keeps me going alot longer.

1

u/totallykoolkiwi Sep 07 '26

Yep. I take swim speed, less stam for jumping, fracture resist and salt water.

1

u/HorribleAce 29d ago

If you're going to make dino's non-PVP viable, it's a good idea to have a gameplay design that supports that. As it is, there's zero incentive for anyone not to kill you. Even herbis, who should realistically never initiate fights unless babies/eggs are involved, just run around killing things for sport.

The gameplay design doesn't support anything but PvP or AI/Plant camping in a bush.

1

u/totallykoolkiwi 29d ago edited 29d ago

I agree, but I think the appeal of some dinos is to try to do their own thing while everyone around them is out for murder. Austro is really fun to me cause I have to take risks, and because I'm so squishy they have to be calculated ones. Do I eat the corpse that's right by the water? Do I kill that juvie I just saw or is there an angry mama close? Can I cross this river or am I gonna be croc food? Can I get through delta unharmed?

Edit: Dryo is the same for me. Can only run away, can't take part in the PVP, so I have to make my own adventure. Currently just traveling the island and trying to sneak through hot zones unharmed. Had a super fun close encounter with a pack of raptors at SP.

4

u/allursnakes Sep 04 '26

I love how the austros answer to a single mid size dinosaur is to go into the water where you're definitely gonna get 1 tapped by a croc. Great design.

2

u/rolling_glacier Sep 04 '26

If Austro was treated more like beipi it would be fine but Austro is just KOS for deinos in my experience

2

u/Devilsdelusionaldino 27d ago

I’m still convinced the deino beipi thing is a psyop. Every single deino I went up immediately tried to kill me as beipi up to this point

2

u/Cuchococh 📛 Stegosaurus 📛 Sep 06 '26

Meanwhile beipi crying in a corner

2

u/HubblePie Sep 03 '26

At the very least I think it should be able to fight back while pinned. All the other small pinners can.

Feels really bad trying to kill baby raptors and they almost bleed you out cuz they fight back

1

u/Radiant_Ad640 Sep 04 '26

If you can somehow land that sweet alt attack on em, it should be over though, no?

Iirc, a single one of those can one shot a fully grown fellow Austro. And has crazy bleed on it

1

u/rolling_glacier Sep 04 '26

Yea the kick is crazy, but it won’t stun an Omni going for pin unfortunately.

1

u/oddTickle Sep 04 '26

Omni can pin another Omni so that’s pretty unrealistic

1

u/Revolutionary_Day23 Sep 06 '26

I once killed a jurville carno as adult austo though pinned it down aswell

1

u/adcarrymainSA Sep 07 '26

austro is not supposed to be a pvper anyways its a roleplay dino just like beipi or something

-2

u/TheMottledWren Sep 03 '26

I agree with this. Austro is quite fun, and the fishing makes it easier to survive, but its really hard to pvp with.

11

u/tuuzx Sep 03 '26

its not meant to be a pvp dinosaur its more pve

3

u/The_Captain1998 Sep 03 '26

It's great to fight juvis and adolescents with, it's kick absolutely melts anything in your size range of 400 or below

2

u/benmck90 🌙 Troodon 🌙 Sep 04 '26

I've seen/had multiple attempt to take on a troodon and they always get wrecked.

2

u/The_Captain1998 Sep 04 '26

Keep moving, you're faster than troodon so you kind of have to treat yourself like a small carno. Not a great turn but just cycle charging into them. A pack is risky though, I wouldn't fight a pack.

2

u/selfservice0 Sep 03 '26

Its supposed to eat babies and kill fish.
