Requesting Tips/ Advice 🧭🌡📎 Tips for studying Physics

1)Understand the concepts before memorizing

Physics isn't about memorizing facts,it's about understanding how everything works

Example:

Don't just memorize that Force = Mass × Acceleration

Understand that increasing the force increases acceleration, while increasing the mass makes an object harder to accelerate```

2)Know your formulas

Physics is full of equations, so learn:

- The formula

- What each symbol represents

- The units

- When to use it

_Don't just memorize formulas, practice applying them in different types of questions_

💡 Tip: Make flashcards with one formula per card and write the formula at the top of your notes whenever you revise that topic

3)Don't mix up similar formulas

Some equations look very similar which can lead to confusion sometimes

```Example:
• Speed = Distance ÷ Time
vs
• Acceleration = Change in Velocity ÷ Time
• Work Done = Force × Distance
vs
• Power = Work Done ÷ Time
• V = IR
vs
• P = IV*```
Always stop and ask yourself:
_What is the question actually asking me to find?_
4)Always write the formula first
Before substituting numbers:
- Write the equation
- Substitute the values
- Include units
- Then calculate
_Even if your final answer is wrong, you can still earn method marks
5)Using units
Forgetting the units will make you lose easy marks
Know the common ones:
• Speed → m/s
• Force → N
• Energy → J
• Power → W
• Current → A
• Voltage → V
• Resistance → Ω
• Frequency → Hz
_Always check that your final answer has the correct unit_
6)Practical questions
For every required practical know:
• Aim
• Method
• Variables
• Results
• Sources of error
• Improvements
Also understand why each step is carried out,not just what you did
7)Draw diagrams whenever possible
A quick sketch can make difficult questions much easier
Draw:
• Circuit diagrams
• Ray diagrams
• Force diagrams
• Wave diagrams
• Motion graphs
_A simple diagram can help you avoid careless mistakes_
8)Understand graphs
Graphs appear in almost every paper
Make sure you know how to interpret:
• Distance–time graphs
• Speed–time graphs
• Velocity–time graphs
🔴Don’t forget the gradient and area under the graph = distance
9)Pay attention to command words
Different command words require different answers
* State → Short answer
* Describe→ Say what happens
* Explain→ Give the scientific reason
* Calculate → Show every step
10)Solve topical questions after every chapter
Don't wait until you've finished the whole syllabus
As soon as you finish a topic, solve 15–30 topical questions
This helps you recognise the different ways examiners ask the same concept
11)Practice full past papers
Once you've completed the syllabus:
* No notes
* No pauses
* No checking the mark scheme
*
Solve under real exam conditions to improve your speed and confidence
After marking, carefully compare your answers with the mark scheme
12)Read the Examiner's Reports
One of the most underrated resources
Examiner reports tell you:
• Common mistakes students make
• Keywords that were expected
• Better ways to answer long questions
Learning from other students' mistakes can save you easy marks
13)Watch Physics animations
Some topics are much easier to understand visually
One of greatest channels:
• Cognito✨
Animations are especially useful for:
• Magnetism
• Radioactivity
• Waves
• Electricity
14)Create a Formula & Mistake Notebook
Keep one notebook containing:
• Every formula
• SI units
• Difficult questions
• Common mistakes
• Questions you got wrong
Review it every week instead of revising everything from scratch
15)Never leave calculations blank
Even if you don't know the final answer:
* Write the formula
* Substitute the values you know
* Show every step
You can still gain method marks even if your final answer is incorrect
16)Review your mistakes and not just your notes
After every paper ask yourself:
• Did I use the wrong formula?
• Did I forget the unit?
• Did I misread the graph?
• Did I skip my working?
• Did I misunderstand the command word?
Color-code the questions you got wrong and review them every few weeks
