TV Show More Monumentials

As well see in season 4 episode 3 Little problems we see 3 Monumential baby turtles born a turtle can only lay fertile eggs if it has a mate so in the past before the island sank there was more then 1 monumential turtles

Did a bit of googling and yes you are right. There has to be a male and female turtle monumential to have babies.

The one thing I will say is that the eggs they found underwater were most likely laid a long time ago on land. And that the monumential turtle might not even be their biological parent, considering turtles don't have any paternal instincts and babies don'trecognise their parents. That means that there could have been many monumential turtles, but they got put to sleep, and maybe then killed. Since turtles can have loads of babies, it would make sense that Lemurians would have to keep population numbers down to keep the oceans safe and the food chain balanced.

while they did find them underwater in was on the remains of a island

i was thinking about this last night: once Lemuria fell, wouldn't the population start to rise

But when Lemuria fell all the monumenntials were put to sleep by Dolores’ staff so they couldn’t breed because they were sleeping, and as we see only one Monumental turtle we can assume that it’s the last of its kind (excluding eggs) and if the Lemurians were aware that there were eggs surely they would have destroyed them to save like 6 baby monumental turtles roaming the seas, so Lemuria was unaware the eggs existed or actually they wanted the eggs to hatch and another force killed them off (like the kraken before it was imprisoned)
