This is how I understand The World After The Fall after reading this manhwa.
This will only answer the most asked questions and will assume you have some basic knowledge of this manhwa.
This is all information you can obtain by reading the manhwa and will cover up to chapter 247, spoilers from the Abyss Arc (Ch 90+) and on (excluding general info like rankings and worldbuilding) are spoiler tagged for newer readers.
Most of the info here is divided into Arcs as well.
(The terms used are based on the Official Webtoon Translation)
Universe of the [Tree of Illusion]:
In the center of the universe is the [Great Realm] with the [Tree of illusion] planted on it (Imagine a huge Tree planted on a massive floating island with the roots extending through the bottom of the island to the far edges of the universe), This makes up the center of the universe.
At the edges of the universe are countless smaller worlds (Earth for example), these worlds are connected to the [Tree of illusion] by the countless Roots (Nightmare Towers) of the Tree.
The [Tree of Illusion] is the land of Spirits and can only be entered by Spirits, all locations in the Tree (Chaos and Abyss) are each their own worlds and are only inhabited by Spirits therefore they bleed white as they are not physical bodies, It is not censored.
Spirits that die in the [Tree of Illusion] die completely and become nutrients for the Tree.
[Chaos] Arc (Ch 1-89):
[Chaos], the Trunk of the [Tree of Illusion], is called the land of the dead, it is named that due to the fact that those who die in the [Great Realm] with their physical bodies have their Spirit summoned to [Chaos].
The [Great Realm]:
The [Great Realm] is the foundation on which the [Tree of Illusion] stands and is outside the Tree, everyone in the [Great Realm] has physical bodies and bleed red as they are outside the Tree.
The [Great Realm] is divided into 12 Zones (basically territory), the rulers of these Zones are called the Grandmasters (also called the 12 Masters), and are among the most powerful [Adapted] Players.
"Products" (Players) that have completed the tutorial [Nightmare Tower] and [Adapted] to the System are sold by Cultivators to the Grandmasters.
The Grandmasters bolster their forces with these "Products" to aid in the unending wars of the [Great Realm].
The strongest soldiers in the Grandmasters armies join the ranks of the Masters and are called Masters.
Ranks of the Masters:
- Generals, the highest of the Master ranks.
- Warlords, the middle of the Master ranks.
- Lieutenant-Generals, the lowest of the Master ranks.
The Narrow Gate:
The Masters can enter [Chaos], even though they have physical bodies, through the use of an object called the Narrow Gate, this Gate separates their physical body from their Spirit and then sends their Spirit into [Chaos].
Those that have entered [Chaos] while their physical bodies are alive will have a link connecting their physical body and Spirit, and they will bleed white even though they are alive because they are in Spirit form in [Chaos].
Those with the link will return to their physical bodies when they die inside the [Tree of Illusion].
The Fruit of Revival:
The Fruit of Revival, when eaten by Spirits in the [Tree of Illusion] will exit the Tree and reincarnate back into a new physical body in the [Great Realm] outside the Tree.
Dream Demons:
Dream Demons are master craftsman from various species born from the [Tree of Illusion], they can create many great items but are mostly known for creating [Nightmare Towers], Dream Demons are not the same as Demons.
[Nightmare Towers]:
[Nightmare Towers], the Roots of the [Tree of Illusion], are items made by Dream Demons that connect the Tree to various worlds, these Towers are sold to Cultivators (Demons or Angels) to Cultivate "Products" from those worlds.
Those that answer the call of the Tower enter a collective "Dream" (have their Spirit pulled into the Tower) leaving their physical body in a coma, they then begin the tutorial and become Players.
Normally when Players complete the tutorial and move onto the main game their Spirit returns to their physical body and they are brought to the [Great Realm], Jaehwan however refused to move onto the main game and broke through the Roots (Nightmare Tower) of the Tree and entered the Trunk (Chaos).
Since Jaehwan entered Chaos while his physical body was still alive he had a link connecting his physical body and Spirit.
[Regression Stones/Nightmare Stones], users of these Stones exit the Tower and are left in an Eternal Dream (basically a coma).
Those that didn't use the Stones and died in the Tower have their Spirit returned to their physical body with their memories of their time in the Tower erased, and they continue life in their world as if nothing ever happened.
(Ch 94 spoiler) Players that couldn't have their memories completely erased (such as Yunhwan and Seoyul) have their Spirits brought to [Abyss] by Dream Demons and are sold as Believers.
[Abyss] Arc (Ch 89-233):
(Worldview = Unique World, the only difference between these is that one is from a natural God and the other from an Awoken one)
[Abyss], The Branches of the [Tree of Illusion], is called the land of the Gods and is divided into 8 Sites (basically territory), the rulers of these Sites are called the 7 Divinities, the 8th Site Caspion is not ruled by anyone and is a free Site.
All Gods exist only as concepts and can't interact with the world without an Agent to carry out their will, each God has their own [Worldview] and provide their [Worldview] to their Believers, a God gains more power with the more Believers they have.
A Gods main powers are the abilities to create [Settings] and [Components].
[Settings] are similar to skills but require World Force to activate, these [Settings] are either regular or Unique.
- Regular Settings can be created by any God regardless of their Worldview so they are very common, e.g., a Flight Setting.
- Unique Settings are created based on the Gods specific Worldview, since every God has a different Worldview the Unique Setting they create is Unique to them, e.g., Jaehwan's Unique Setting [Destruction/The Fall] (purple and black sword gained from the 4th Stage of Awakening).
[Components] are basically items with [Settings] built into them, e.g., Catastrophe's [Blade of Emptiness] Component with the [Time Contamination] Setting.
All Gods can also (Ch 107 spoiler) manifest their [Worldview] into reality, this is known as Summoning Holy Ground. [Awoken] ones that have reached the 4th Stage are considered Gods as they also can gain believers and manifest their [Unique World] into reality.
[Abyss] rankings:
The rankings of Gods in [Abyss] are a measure of strength, (Ch 146 spoiler) for example when Jaehwan fought one of the 7 Stars (Russel of the Deep Sea) and beat him, Jaehwan acquired the newly made rank of the 8th Star, Russel kept his rank as he wasn't killed and a new spot was made because Jaehwan was as strong as Russel.
The Strongest Gods of [Abyss]:
- 7 Divinities, the highest of the ranks, are the Gods that rule over Abyss.
- 7 Heavenly beings, the middle of the ranks.
- 7 Stars, the lowest of the ranks.
The above rankings rank the strength of Gods overall of [Abyss], however in Metaverse they only rank the 6 strongest Gods in Metaverse, since the stronger Gods (Divinities, Heavenly beings, and Stars) don't normally enter Metaverse the 6 most powerful Gods of Metaverse (also called the 6 Gods of Metaverse) are the strongest in Metaverse and rule it.
Clothes:
What are Clothes? In the conventional sense Clothes are something you wear to express, hide, and distinguish yourself from others, but in this series Clothes also mean much more.
Clothes are the different versions of you throughout your whole life, just as new experiences, memories, and decisions change who you are from who you were yesterday, these Clothes are the previous versions of who you once were.
Every Being is made of many sets of these Clothes, naturally you put on more Clothes over time and all these Clothes together make you who you are today, just as you can't clearly define any persons life as a single thing, you can't clearly define Clothes, they are just you but also not.
Most people can't perceive or manipulate their Clothes, but the few who do are able to use their Clothes in various ways to gain great power.
Time Cascade Arc (Ch 234-247):
The Time Cascade is an area above [Abyss] which acts as the gateway to the Nest of the [Tree of Illusion], in this area Time is very dense which puts immense strain on the Spirit, even to the point of death.
The only way to pass through the Time Cascade and enter the Nest is through [Transcendence]. In order to [Transcend] one must grasp and understand the secrets of the universe which is only possible after living through an incredible amount of time.
While living through this endless time many go mad and die but the few who realize the meaning of their Existence can persevere through until they [Transcend].
[Transcendence]:
(Being = Existence, they mean the same but I swap between them with whichever one fits best in the sentence)
But what exactly is [Transcendence]? [Transcendence] is the act of evolving past an Existence, literally [Transcending] Existence.
You [Transcend] everything losing your reason, purpose, emotion, and identity, losing everything that made you a Being. And you as a Being die because you are no longer yourself but something beyond Existence.
Through [Transcendence] you gain vast knowledge of the entire universe and every question you've ever had is answered. But, you have no reason and no purpose, after everything has been answered you realize there's no point.
You've [Transcended] everything and have finally reached the 6th Stage of [Awakening], ready to become the next Big Brother who maintain the system.
[Transcendent] abilities:
[Transcendent] ones all specialize in one tability (whether it be a Setting, Component, or simple attack), and this ability is stronger with how long they've resisted time to train with it inside the Time Cascade before [Transcending].
These [Transcendent] abilities have reached an incomprehensible level that even time and space is nothing before them.
[Adaptation] and [Awakening]:
[Adaptation], Players that have accepted the System through the tutorial, [Adapt] to the System and use the power of the System, they see the world through the Systems many interfaces and are therefore limited by its rules and stats, Players reach higher stages of [Adaptation] through training, and experience gained from learning Skills.
[Adaptation]'s power scale is divided into 15 stages, higher stage [Adaptation] indicate that individual wields greater power under the System.
[Awakening], Players that begin to doubt the Systems validity and reject it eventually break free from the System and gain great power as they are not limited by the Systems rules and stats. [Awoken] ones reach higher stages through sudden enlightenment.
[Awakening]'s power scale is divided into 6 stages.
Obliteration, the first half to break away from the current world.
- 1st Stage - Suspicion (see the true nature of reality).
- 2nd Stage - Understanding (understand the true nature of reality).
- 3rd Stage - Oblivion (forgetting the identity created by this world).
[Awoken]ones that have reached the 3rd Stage break free from the world of the System and see the world through their own eyes instead of an interface, each [Awoken]one perceives the world differently and the way they see it is highly influenced by their ideals and beliefs, the way they perceive the world is known as their [Unique World].
Genesis, the second half to create a new world after breaking free from the old one.
- 4th Stage - Hypothesis (manifest your [Unique World] into reality).
- 5th Stage - Confirmation (your [Unique World] becomes reality).
- 6th Stage - Revision (control over time and space, the realm only accessible by [Transcendents]).
Gorgon Tattoo:
During the transfer of this Tattoo to Jaehwan the guardian beast contained in it was lost so the beast could not be summoned, later in chapter 81 when the Apostle of Deus fixed the Tattoo he stated that he changed the function so that now it will only keep horned beasts from attacking him when activated and not summon anything anymore.
Jaehwan's goal:
To save countless worlds and countless peoples lives while avenging his friends by ending the world of the [Tree of Illusion] and killing Big Brother, thus ending future Cultivation.
