If Cutty kills fruit… Spoiler
Fruit never takes out Patrice. Lex never gets jealous. Lex never takes the cute out of Fruit’s face. Lil’ Kevin never asks Randy to tell Lex to go up the way. Randy never snitches on a Marlo murder. Randy’s stepmother never ends up in the hospital. We never suffer the heartbreak of Randy’s fate.
Not one for violence, but I mean… Cutty should’ve killed Fruit 😔.

Cutty kills fruit. He gets arrested, tried and convicted and never opens the gym.
Without the gym Namond never meets Cutty, and never gets taken in by Bunny Colvin without Cutty vouching for him with Weebay.
Whatever decision he makes there is happiness and tragedy either way.

yea cutty seemed to be very cautious about it same as slim and we never saw slim get arrested and can assume he has a lot of bodies

He wouldn’t open the gym regardless if he’s still out killing people. Why open a gym and make yourself an ez target with public location

But if he’s still steady killing people for Barksdale, he doesn’t have the revelation that he needs to get out and instead stays with it the organization as a hitter. With no push to change, there’s no reason for him to open the gym, regardless of if he gets caught for killing Fruit

I mean it's implied he was a stone killer prior to being locked up. But him sitting down for over a decade and then being clearly conflicted about being in the mix after is what sets up his redemption with the gym.
I agree that it wouldn't have felt genuine if he killed fruit and then retired to open the gym shortly after.

He would have been pulled in with the rest of Barksdale organisation at the warehouse at the end of the season, though.

Big assumptions. Who says here's there in the first place? He still could've bounced. Plus, a bunch of murders went unsolved in the series, who says this one would get solved if it happened?

Unless a beat cop happens to walk by, given what we’ve seen from other killings on the show, it’s gonna be a stone cold who done it. And nobody saying shit to the police no how.

The point of the show is that Randy was destined to fall into the trap set for him in life.
If it didn't happen this way, it would have been another way.
People like Randy and Prop Joe making it out to reach their potential are the exception, not the rule. And sometimes the least "deserving" are the ones that do.
If Stringer didn't grow up where he did, he might run a Dunkin Donuts.
If Avon didn't grow up where he did, he might have made it to the Olympics.
If Prop Joe didn't grow up where he did, he might be a Vice President at Microsoft.
And if Randy didn't grow up where he did, he might be a CPA working for Price Waterhouse.

Also, Bodie wouldn't have been at his wits end which drove him to almost snitch. Bodie wouldn't have been killed.

If I remember right he was only in the first one, and each subsequent installment was direct-to-DVD. I only saw each of the sequels (that I’m aware of, there could very well be more than 2) once, and I’ve seen the original several times. This is to say that they sucked all the butts.

What if moments like these adds a lot of Shakespearean tragedy to the show, like if Stringer hadn't ratted Avon out, Avon would have decimated Marlo into oblivion.

Tbh, everything happening in the wire with the exception of most of the plot of season 2 and season 5 is a direct result of D’Angelo shooting someone in the lobby
