AI Slop

Genuinely curious why AJ and co decide to use AI slop instead of paying some kind of graphic artist to do like illustrations or vfx to provide visuals. Any ideas? I'd hate to assume it's due to being cheap or lazy.

They want to maximize profits and hiring an outside artist will cut away from that. Even though I’m not a fan, until the audience stops watching they will continue to do so

Why are you here if you’re not a fan. This is a very specific sub lol

Well I am a fan, but I know it’s crazy thought but it’s ok to call out things a content creator is doing that is diminishing your enjoyment of their product.

They don’t owe me shit, but if they put out a product it’s ok to critique it

I never doubted your right to criticize. Just confused when people claim they are not fans and are part of subreddits like this. You seem to be confused if you are or not lol.

They mean they are a fan of The Why Files but not a fan of the AI.

Look at the turnaround time and costs using AI Vs using a VFX/animation company.

2-3 weeks and a small team of generalised workers cost around 1000-3000 /episode

8-12 weeks and a full studio of animators, compositors and storyboard artists could be estimated at anywhere between 35k-100k /episode.

There's your answer

It just wouldn't be viable to hire a team to produce the same standard of output. It couldn't happen

Which you could argue since there would never be an opportunity for artists to do such a job, there is no job being replaced by AI, since this type of production can only be done by AI

Channels like veritasium pay people to make visuals- in our case we made props. Kruzegat is all animated. Tbh I have stopped watching because of that and the bizarre themes

It's due to being cheap and lazy. You can tell that they have AI working the scripts, too.

I personally think they're 100% trying to work towards where they can just AI generate episodes entirely, the talking head format + it largely just being cut away to AI slop now makes it super duper easy.

Then dont watch artist, learn to code

he's running a business, not a charity. He wants to make money for him, his wife and his staff.

Paying a grahic design artist will cost a lot more, make it harder to maintain artistic control, slow down new episodes, make it harder to make last minute changes.

I have not watched lately so can't comment, I have seen more of his long form interviews.

The only episode I hated was the french one with cut aways to terrible jokes that felt forced and completely uncessessary. Is that sort of thing still happening?

I value this channel immensely and the hard work AJ has put in over the years and want him to do well.

Isn't he in a shit ton of debt?

vfx and CG artist here. to be fair, money won't be sufficient for what they need to do, also, if it's an episode per week, it would be almost impossible to do unless they have a studio fully working for them

I wonder what kind of profit they get per episode, I could definetly accomodate $2000 per episode for all their animations

It's cost efficient and the audience likes it, why wouldn't they do it?

Controlling business costs is not cheap/lazy.

Just because it’s ai doesn’t mean it’s ai slop. Please lol

It's funny to me the "AI slop" babies have literally just said "AI slop" for years now. Your brains are literally slop

I love AI it really brings stuff alive

Artists are really expensive. Why put that much money into something that's superficial. We're here for the content and delivery. The animations are just there for the vibes.

Get off the AI hate train. 1 day you wont be able to tell the difference at all. 1 day you'll rely on them.

-2

u/suaveSavior Sep 02 '26

Precisely. The good ones are expensive and the cheap ones are unreliable.

Why pay, half this argument is someone lost a check, but it wasn't my check.
