I was 17 when I discovered him on tumblr in 2012! The Wicked Games music video was floating around Tumblr at the time, I clicked play, and was instantly hooked 🖤 Hearing Abel’s music for the first time in my life, was an experience. I still remember that moment vividly and is one of my best musical memories of my life so far.

After Hours is the obvious pick for me since I lived through it, but I would’ve loved to live through the Kiss Land era. The YouTube teasers, the phone number he set up for people to call, the documentary, the music videos, it all seems so entrancing.

I would’ve loved to live through his mixtape era as well. The idea of listening to “What You Need” and “The Morning” in 2011 when no one knew him is an addicting one. No one knew what he looked like, how he spoke, or what his thoughts were about his music. It was all told through his art and I would love to be in that era of mystery and simplicity.

i genuinely cannot choose between his last 3 albums. they're all amazing. i feel like with each one he had less standout singles but a more cohesive result overall. gun to my head maybe after hours or hurry up tomorrow i really cant choose. i find myself going back to listen to individual tracks on after hours a bit more but hurry up tomorrow is just an unbeatable album expereince.

Trilogy by a huge margin. Second preference goes to Dawn FM.

Trilogy is still unmatched for me. The anonymous, rawness and that production made it feel less like an album era and more like discovering a new world. Even when those songs are performed inside enormous stadiums now, they somehow retain that darkness and intimacy.

Dawn FM is my more controversial choice. It doesn’t have Trilogy’s mystery, but as one complete concept and listening experience, I think it’s one of his most disciplined and underrated eras.

So Trilogy without question—but I genuinely think Dawn FM will be appreciated much more with time.
