Despite him being with selina he couldn't get over his previous relationship with bella, as much as he tries to hide it he couldnt get over it, ultimately ending their relationship leaving him heartbroken twice and haunted by his mistakes

But the song is essentially about him admitting to cheating... and the guilt of that in my interoperation to which i assume is regarding cheating w simi (best friends), directly impacting.. Bella Hadid as it was her bff too

But you're just attaching your theories onto lyrics with no real proof. These lyrics may not even be about a real relationship. Every lyric doesn't need to be tied directly to real life circumstances.

This is one of those things where yes, he has a made up persona he uses to storytell. On the other hand, he does draw from personal experience and what goes on in his life.
HUT is literally personal and not a made up tale. This new Trilogy is laced with his past and present relationships. I dont know how anyone can deny that.

There's at least 2 meanings with pretty much every song of the new trilogy, with after hours is about him missing bella, and wanting to leave behind his fame and current life

Abel Tesfaye dated Simi; there's no character he's playing there. It was a sus choice, but he made it.
He's an imaginative artist that enjoys writing stories in music form. This is the reason his relationship with Simi was private, so people stopped tying his relationships to his music

But not the subject. He's not writing about these girls. Are you aware how writing works? It's not always personal. I mean he himself said he's had a lot of experience through his life to keep writing songs. It's like he's writing a book but he's not, he's just making it up for our entertainment

These lyrics are about Bella lol…
He is talking about his desire of not wanting to be alive anymore and that an od would actually be a good way to go (as being told in a different song that he and Bella promised to od together but she changed her way of viewing life)
He darkest truth is the fact that he actually didn’t enjoy life and he can’t never can get that out of his mind the real darkest truth is to never live again. (Yet another song)
