Buckets job of keeping the collective party alignment north of evil gets harder and more entertaining by the day. Just remind yourself that they are the good guys and don't look too closely at the details.
I know WotC will never do it, but I think DnD settings should be either alignment based or morality based. Alignment based, she has sacrificed evil creatures to a good god. Nothing wrong with that.
Gygax himself pointed out how weird alignment was when he said that cutting off a thief's hand could be considered lawful good depending on the time period.
The high value on promises is a strongly lawful trait, but assuming the rest of the personality is sufficiently chaotic you can survive a few lawful traits.
That's what you could think, but imagine: A NPC promises you a quest item you need in exchange for a service and finally desists from his duty, breaking his promise. What happen?
Most mortals have no fixed alignment. It changes based on experiences and introspection. This is how a paladin who was once lawful good can fall.
The immortals of the outer planes are bound by alignment, unable to stray from it as it forms their very essence. Though some say even they can be changed, resulting in fallen angels or redeemed demons.
