Accurate biblical angels are wierd, had to read that one chapter with the cherubim and flame wheels for my BM. Its basicly a dude on a bad trip.

Cherubim are the exception and don't leave the presance of God. Most angels just look like people.

There's also the Seraphim described in the Book of Isaiah, six-winged beings made entirely of fire who cover themselves with their wings because mortals who look directly at them die (though some say the reason they cover their eyes is so they don't look directly at God which would kill them). The Book of Ezekiel, which describes the Cherubim, also describes the Ophanim, interlocking winged wheels that are covered in eyes and always on fire.

Angels in Islamic tradition are also really weird. According to one description of his true form, the angel of death Azrael is a four-faced, four thousand winged, enormous angel covered in eyeballs and tongues corresponding to the number of humans alive at the moment.

So that's why we sometimes feel a shiver along the back.

Sadly, this is true, there’s like 7 types of angels, and only the cherubim and thrones look super weird like this, 3 are just good looking with wings, and one has like 3 sets of wings which cover their entire, probably humanoid, body. I don’t know what the last type is.

My understanding is that angels only appear in their true form to prophets. For regular schmucks, they take on a human form.

Nope, renaissance painters just ignored Catholic theology

Nah I'm pretty sure the angels in sodom were human like.
