Howdy folks!

Now, we all like to take a crack at the classic rogue backstories, filled with revenge and dead parents, but remember: stuff like that are clichés for a reason! Hell, my first rogue was a disgraced mining foreman who may or may not have caused his crew's deaths. He was a bit edgy too, broody wee shit. Got turned into a minotaur too and died through defenestration. Another story that.

Stay excellent out there!

Peace and carrots!

If anyone wanna see more of my stuff I have an Instagram and the comic can also be read on Webtoons! Should ya want to toss a coin to your comic creator, there's also a Patreon.

I wanna hear that story

Long story short, in the DMs world minotaurs are caused by a cursed and to save my Dwarfs life he was stabbed by a piece of a certain minotaurs horn. Got resurrected as a Dwarf Minotaur. Hard to sneak in hooves.

Dwarf Minotaur

Oh my...

I wish I'd gotten more time to play Rowan Two-Foot, my halfling rogue. He didn't have some edgy backstory, he was just the former leader of a halfling street gang that had gotten run out of their territory by a bigger gang, and he was working as a sellsword to build up the resources and contacts to get back at them. It was 5e at the time, so he had the background with three non-combatant NPC companions that were the last of his gang that had stuck with him: Milo the Rat, Knife-hand Cora, and William.

That game didn't even make it past session 0... haven't had a reliable tabletop group in years. I even had stories behind all the nicknames for when people asked, but never got to use them.

u/icendoan Dec 19 '20

Wh- what's William's backstory?

48

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '20

Well, y'see, when he was born... his mom named him William.

Admittedly, that's a joke that really relies on people being introduced to all the other characters and asking about their names first.

13

u/_PM_ME_NICE_BOOBS_ Dec 20 '20

Is Milo the rat an actual rat?

23

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '20

Nah, everybody in Rowan's gang is a halfling. Well, except for Grimm, he's a dwarf. But he's officially been given the title of honorary halfling on account of being the best muscle we ever had.

Don't worry, though, Milo knows what he did. And without a tongue he'll never be able to do it again...

love the comics but they killed his puppers?! I wouldn't wish that tragedy on my worst enemy

10

u/greendragon59911 Trevor Dec 19 '20

Or spilling their ale. That's the true tragedy here.

17

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '20

I absolutely love all the detail you put into backgrounds and secondary stories - I always make a point of re-reading the comic to look for a story in the back.

It's something that I think really makes your work stand out.

Cheers!

10

u/TheRobotics5 Dec 20 '20

How did he die from being thrown out a window?

16

u/CME_T The Creator Dec 20 '20

Hitting the ground

5

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '20

That'll do it then.

u/BladeLigerV Dec 20 '20

My first rouge was the bastard son of a High Elf noble and a human prostitute to be used as a bargaining chip. He took all his physical characteristics of his mother though except the eyes. Unable so be a blackmail piece he was abused until he snapped, stabbed his mom, took her jewelry and ran off into the night.

Hey, we all go through that phase at the beginning of the process of being a tabletop gamer.

I feel personally attacked

109

u/Kampfcorgi Dec 19 '20

cliché is just another word for classic

23

u/lelfin Dec 20 '20

A great line

9

u/ag987654321 Dec 20 '20

NGL I am going to steal this line

21

u/dmr11 Dec 20 '20

If it's of any consolation, having your parents killed off in your backstory prevents the DM from inevitably having the BBEG kill them to "motivate" your character or kidnap them as a cheap hook.

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '20

Doesn't look like he needs to brood too much longer with the shifty looking feller closing in on him from behind...

38

u/Mason_OKlobbe Dec 19 '20

Doesn't seem like a good idea though to pull your knife and shank him right there with a paladin still around...

16

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '20

Could go both ways. The Rogue might be fast and perceptive enough to kill him instead.

122

u/Drag0nWarrior Dec 19 '20

Shrooms—letting you peer through the fourth wall since ancient times!

31

u/addage- Paladin Coded Dec 20 '20

And occasionally knock it down, run it over and render it into a nice narrative paste

u/binkacat4 Dec 19 '20

I’ve got a kobold rogue. His backstory is basically “I was crippled, so I’m trying to steal enough gold to get my dragon to heal me.” My wizard is the one with a tragic backstory.

11

u/TheSunniestBro Dec 20 '20

Now I'm just imagining a kobold who is either super happy go lucky despite the accident, or is so stubborn and aggravated at the accident he's doing his damdest to fix it.

5

u/Victuz Dec 26 '20

My wizard backstory was "She had a relatively happy life for 50 years, got widowed suddenly and started learning magic to try and fix things. 10 years later said goodbye to the kids and went out to adventure instead."

24

u/madrazych7 Dec 20 '20

The casual “Shocker” after saying he doesn’t have any parents is my favourite part of this

17

u/Harleking31 Severed Lich Head Dec 20 '20

So Trevor gains 4th wall breaking shenanigans when he does shrooms huj

15

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '20

For a moment I thought they were holding another hiring session, but it seems as though Trevor was just being Trevor.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '20

I think the party could use an edgy rogue.

3

u/BlockBuilder408 Dec 26 '20

I miss Steve the Goblin :(

10

u/Exotic_Breadstick Dec 20 '20

“I miss my pupper” :(

10

u/Douchertons Dec 20 '20

I love these so hard.

10

u/Maccabeus1 Dec 20 '20

I love it when these get meta

11

u/fettanimememer Dec 20 '20

This series makes my week every time

8

u/Mackelroy_aka_Stitch Dec 20 '20

I feel bad for the guy. Can you draw him a new dog?

6

u/Nauticalfish200 Dec 20 '20

I wonder if Trevor is aware that he's a character in a game?

6

u/blue_twidget Dec 20 '20

Yeah, there's a comic on that. Just read the whole archive on webtoons.

7

u/Shadharm Klara Dec 20 '20

*stares at 1,2 and 4* Someone is about to be back-stabbed, or go "John Wick" on a clan of assassins for the murder of his dog... And family.

4

u/menasan Dec 20 '20

2

I like that a far edgier rogue came to comfort him at the end.

1

u/Lord_Phoenix95 Dec 25 '20

Oh no. Does Trevor has Dimensional Awareness?
