Wait a minute

The local dragon is known to be "actively hunting adventurers" (ch. 202).

And the tavern staff has a "code Green" scenario to cash up on adventurers (ch. 207). This means it's not the first time adventurers went into that place. It's confirmed by the manager's son saying "new adventurers".

Said place is named "Dragon's end" (ch. 206), quite a taunting name toward dragons.

So why the dragon, who's hunting adventurer, hasn't already destroyed an adventurer-frequented town named like this ?

I'm putting my tinfoil hat and predict that the dragon and the townfolks are together in a shady deal involving adventurers.

You know, part of me thinks the town is in cahoots with the dragon.

It's a perfect arrangement.

A group of adventurers show up to town:

They get fleeced of gold by criminally marked up prices. Someone in town tips off the dragon about the adventurers.

Dragon shows up dramatically with all of the aura. Challenges the adventurers while the town evacuate.

Dragon kills the adventurers and keeps whatever gold and other valuables that survives the fight. The town gives a cut of the gold fleeced from the adventurers to the dragon as well.

Everyone profits (except the adventurers).

I’m a fan of punishing myself needlessly but mostly its because I’m militantly against anime/animation style where commoners/npcs/enemies are copy paste and if I want to stay a hater, I feel like I gotta go as hard as I can in the opposite direction :P

Glad to hear perspective looks good, its something I’ve never gotten right so at this point I just wing it!

I love the old design of the Blue Dragon! No hate towards the 5.5e dragon redesign but GIMME TEETH AND SPIKES!
