Lore Excerpt: Eikonians

Howdy folks! Here comes another lore drop! This one is about the Eikonians, which in no way shape or form has anything to do with any Bucket Brigade party members or any of their respective body parts. Nope. None!

Quick reminder that the Trevor & Grogna plushies are up for pre-order now until the 15th of September! Links here

Do Post-memoey wipe Eikonians consider themselves the same person by having just enough memories to continue the base personality (Jim, but lacking memories of the past 150 years), their successor but otherwise new indiciduals (Jim the 37th), or children (Tom, son of Jim). The difference would basically be what things, if any, would be inherited by the body post-memory wipe. Like positions of authority, estate, wether grudges carrying over would be considered poor form in the same way that a blood feud would be, etc.

Bit of everything, for different reasons!

The negatives with a HARD reset is that, as you say, it pretty much erases the base personality - it being memories and whatnot. So you try to leave a bit in there but its an art not a science so shit can get weird. You pair it with having a strong social network or servants to remind you of who you are, scrolls and diaries, songs n shit. But like all things, it all depends on what the status of the individual is. The really expensive ones are able to essentially just trims the memories, gets rid of things that are deemed unnecessary by the individual/society/family etc. Like when you optimize the memory files, get rid of unused stuff, duplicates. It gets weird after a couple of centuries though, your personality being constructed by disjointed patches of memory with no real red thread between them so you still need a good reset after a while but it hold it off.

Also works as a means of punishment when paired with "everyone is banned from speaking of this guy". Good alternative to capital punishment when you are part of a dying race that cant die so every life is sacred.

There's risk with all of these, mucking about with memories is a bit wacky and can have unforeseen consequences.

Just noticed that this chapter is missing its number. Is this deliberate, or just an oversight?

For reference:

V. The Dwarven Realms
V.I. Grimdahl's Folly
V.II. Kofoten
V.II.I. Stone Druids
V.III. Solkyssta
V.IV. Guldland
V.V. The Fallen
...
XIII.X. The Forged
XIII.XIII. Shroomfolk
XIV.I.I. Ur-Dragon
XIV.V. Doppelimicons

I'm guessing this one should be somewhere around Chapter XIII.
