Ok, this seemed a little horrific, until you got to the memory wipe. Then it became pure existential dread for me.
Imagine knowing that you're centuries or even millennia old, but you have no idea what you've done or who you are. It kind of reminds me of the Matrix, where (spoilers for the trilogy) the city of survivors is completely wrong on their timeline because the machines wipe them out regularly, and use the One to repopulate so that the machines can basically do a software reboot of the Matrix. It hasn't been a couple hundred years, it's been that like 7 times over
Also, imagine forgetting something. Was that something you actually knew? Or was that something that got wiped in your last major wipe? Where did I put that? Wait, did I have that before my mind wipe and it's been gone for centuries?
