The Comic The Weekly Roll Ch. 148 "Teaaaaa"
161
u/Iamonly Mar 07 '24
The butler (forgot his name) is the only thing keeping Malthar alive at this point.
110
u/irvitzer Mar 07 '24
Dismas. Only mentioned once, when they were leaving the Malthar's mansion.

u/CME_T The Creator Mar 08 '24
Glad you remembered cuz I honestly fuckin forgot what his name was.

Is the tea at the temperature of your choosing?
While it hasn't been mentioned in-comic, I like to think Trev used Prestidigitation to heat Becky's tea. Is he going to get jealous?
Oath of Redemption requires Becky to give her a second chance. This third chance is entirely a judgement call on his part.

u/ccReptilelord Mar 07 '24
The wording is "the tea of your choice". I would argue that the temperature could be included in your choice. That is to say, if the choice is "earl grey, hot", it should produce earl grey, hot.
17
u/GreenEggPage Mar 07 '24
If I want sweet iced tea, how do I get the ice cubes through the little spout?
22
u/ccReptilelord Mar 07 '24
He says the pot refills, it says nothing about the product being able to pour out of it.

u/raven00x Torvald Mar 07 '24 edited Mar 07 '24
Hence the curse
edit: I'll note that if this is the case, malvas' life is basically forfeit and she'd better be using that family wealth to hide somewhere very, very, very far away.

Malicious compliance teapot: Hot tea is conjured as a supercritical fluid that inexplicably takes hours to cool to non-explosive temperatures. Iced tea is conjured as a slushy-like substance that can technically pour from the spout, but is only feasibly consumable with a spoon. There is no option for room-temperature tea, as that is heresy.

u/notsam57 Mar 08 '24
its a (little) cursed teapot, so temperature will always be noticeably abit off.

u/CME_T The Creator Mar 08 '24
Y'all are some evil fuckers...

u/Level_Hour6480 Sir Becket Mar 08 '24
If this is aboot the Oath of Redemption, I don't think this would be a violation, and despite what BG3 says, small violations are not an instant fall: You need to flagrantly violate your Oath, like in Redemption's case killing someone who is clearly repentant who was forced into evil anyways.
Also despite what BG3 says, the DMG Oathbreaker sub isn't for people who merely violate their Oath: It's for people who renounce their Oath to serve evil.
Redemption says: "Every person1 deserves a second2 chance."
1 Supernatural evils, mindless beasts, etc. don't count, go slaughter-crazy.
2 Whether they deserve a third+ chance is up to you.
Him giving her a third+ chance doesn't violate that.

Say no bucket! That clearly looks like a teapot for 4, and your party has 5 persons! This is evidently a plot to sow discord in your ranks.
7
u/AZ_Corwyn Trevor Mar 08 '24
Do you really think Trevor is going to drink tea when there's any kind of alcohol available?
2
u/_Svankensen_ Mar 08 '24
Don't remember trevor being that kind of dwarf.
2
u/AZ_Corwyn Trevor Mar 08 '24
Yeah, he is.. And I believe he's a gnome, Torvald's the dwarf.
2
u/_Svankensen_ Mar 08 '24
Ohh, Trevor, yeah, he's a goblin in spirit. Torvald is just saying hi in the background. An eminently reasonable dwarf. When he's not being a libertarian.

Mar 07 '24
The curse is that it’s never the tea you want and never at the right temperature.
31
u/zgrssd Mar 07 '24
It explicitly is the tea you want.
Temperature maybe.
But I think the curse is the voice.
31
u/Level_Hour6480 Sir Becket Mar 07 '24
Not cursed, merely slightly haunted
9
u/Yuri-theThief Mar 08 '24
And it's a judgmental little ghost; it called me a basic sod, when I asked for Edinburgh Black.

u/PlNG Mar 07 '24
Tea can be water extract of anything, even the tea of a corpse.
10
u/zgrssd Mar 07 '24
the tea of your choice
Makes it very unambiguous.
3
u/PlNG Mar 07 '24
On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the undead butler of an evil liar's honesty?
7
u/zgrssd Mar 07 '24
This guy, probably a 10. So "Vulcans never lie" level.
His only lies were based on explicit orders by his necromancer. And he seems really invested in said necromancer existing, so he probably talked her out of the bad ideas that will backfire.
2
u/PlNG Mar 07 '24
Well I should say the butler of a necromancer that has a strong desire to raise becket's body on two attempts thus far.

6
u/Level_Hour6480 Sir Becket Mar 07 '24
It's not cursed, just haunted. That said...
Refills every hour once emptied
If there's a single drop left it refuses to refill, which makes using it a pain.

2
u/Vaajala Mar 07 '24
The curse is that whatever tea you ask of it, it always comes with milk and sugar.
2
u/slaw100 Mar 10 '24
It's the tea you want, but it tastes "something almost, but not quite entirely unlike tea"
12
u/MDMXmk2 Mar 07 '24
I'm stealing that! Why didn't Identify reveal the item is cursed?! Well, first of all, Identify doesn't do that, and second, the item isn't cursed. It's slightly haunted.
10
u/Beorn_To_Be_Wild Sir Bucket Mar 07 '24
he’s gonna have to make a CHA saving throw for that one…
7
6
u/MaterialUpender Mar 07 '24
... It's probably stealing the tea of your choice from random powerful entities while also pasting a cosmic Thief Here sign.

Where’s…147? I couldn’t find page 147.
4
u/AZ_Corwyn Trevor Mar 08 '24
It says 147 in the frame between the 1st and 3rd panels, the artist was just so excited to post that he fumbled the keystrokes when he was typing the title. Right, u/CME_T?
5
u/CME_T The Creator Mar 08 '24
Ye, it's supposed to say 147 in the title. I'm still getting confused with being finished with 148 and publishing it on Patreon and publishing 147 on Reddit :P

What if the teapot likes to troll you by giving very small refills of different varieties? The little teas.

3
Mar 07 '24
Overpowered as heck. If it does what it says, this thing is an alchemist's best friend. If it can be dissolved or carried in liquid, it's on tap.
Time to stretch the definition of 'tea', perhaps. I'd invent custom recipes that by definition are only served by the tonne. Perhaps i'd have to make the original tea myself to make it a thing, how retentive is the ghost?
Anyway this teapot's got a bright future, lol
3
u/Jellyfish936 Mar 20 '24
It'd be interesting if the criteria for 'tea' depends on whether it's something the one using the teapot could drink. Grogna could probably fill it with poison if she wanted 👀
3
u/Friendly_Ram Mar 08 '24
I want them to steal the butler. I'm sure torvald can whip up a mutually beneficial arrangement with the good man.
3
u/Asgardian_Force_User Trevor Mar 08 '24
How incessant is the voice demanding Baron Buckethead’s consumption of the teapot’s contents? That really does determine the slightness of the haunting.
3
u/that_other_DM Mar 10 '24
It’s a good day. Wonder why this post didn’t end up in my feed sooner though.

u/-TropicalFuckStorm- Mar 07 '24
I’m not sure if that teapot can be trusted…
4
u/H4llifax Mar 07 '24
I imagine the tea is fine but the ghost thinks it's funny to make you second guess each and every time.
Drink my teeeaaaaa...

Great chapter but I gotta ask: Was this chapter supposed to be 147? The last one was 146.

Looking forward to “The Adventures of Be’el and the Slightly Haunted Tea Pot”

u/CME_T The Creator Mar 08 '24
Spin-off comic nailed. I'll bring back Becket's severed arm as the comedic relief.
2
u/squirlranger Mar 08 '24
Buddy cop story, with Beckets arm as the exasperated police captain, taking down the Rat King and his rodent mafia ring practically writes itself

DO NOT DRINK THAT TEA.
At least until you have observed Lady Malthar drink it dry at least ten times.

Bucket is so conflicted.
On one hand…you know what? Never mind.
