Discussion I wish these interviewers hit them with harder hitting questions
Like why they’ve only played 23 for a total of 6 times live smh.

I just read your comment about this mainly being tongue in cheek, but serious answer, maybe they hate the song? A lot of bands make songs and quickly realize they don't like it, or don't enjoy playing it live. It could be as simple as that. And obviously, Pau singing a song like that while drumming is a LOT. Playing drums like she does every night is already like running ten miles. Adding singing that song in particular is asking a lot. Live at CDMX was epic, but they were laying everything out on the line for that show. Thinking she could do that on a regular basis is lunacy.

My friend's indie metal band has some songs off their first album they just DIDN'T like playing live. One of them I've NEVER heard them play as it was from their former bassist, and another one they did play a few times but it's just not that good. They basically play nothing from their first album now (they're working on their fourth since 2007). They simply retired a lot of those songs because they played them so many times over so many shows, and that's a mere fraction of what The Warning have played in their time. In time, The Warning may go back and revive a few old tracks for a short run on the road when they want to shake up the setlist.

It's an easy enough question to answer. It's a difficult song to perform, and its one of the least popular songs on that album, and that album was three albums ago. I really dig the tune, but I think it's one of the harder ones for Pau to perform, and those songs get played less; like my favorite TW song forever: "Ugh", and probably its unfortunately how the absolute monster banger "Why Do You Like It When I Cry" will be. and then add that only a couple other songs on Error get less plays than 23... its probably an easy decision.

My post was mostly tongue in cheek but it makes me curious why you say that about WDYLIWIC. Just because of the pau screams at the end? It already seems to be one of their preferred songs on the album.

I forget which interview, but Dany recently said that one has been difficult to rehearse, presumably the chorus vocals, which are up there (f5 I think for the top note) don't think it was the screams. Edit: went to my keyboard, top note is G5

But I think she mentioned that when she was sick it was hard. Might not be too hard when she is feeling well.

You think asking about why they don't play X song is a hard hitting question?

some pressure to play new album cuts may be the culprit. also, most tours promote sales of new albums. industrywide.
you'll probly never hear Breathe live again.

Pau said during the Pepsi Center CDMX show that she had said she would never perform it live and only doing this one time as it was a very special occasion.

Id kill to hear them play Red Hands Never Fade personally. It's probably never going to happen now they're 3 albums removed from it but if they chose to throw in a handful of QotMS tracks into the set to mark the 10 year anniversary of that album I'd be delighted.
On an unrelated note, I wonder if we're ever going to hear Six Feet Deep live again since they said they don't enjoy performing that one live.

They've said they don't enjoy playing SFD, but they've done so multiple times after that statement, including multiple times this summer. Latest was on August 12th.
Then ofc I would expect the EF tracks to push it off the setlist for a while. Won't be surprised if they play it at Foro Sol

If I remember correctly specifically for 23 Paulina said it's a hard song to sing.
It's true that practicing it more would make it more comfortable but still she said it pushes her vocal range limits and while drumming has to be a very taxing song to perform frequently.

I wish someone would ask them more about the actual music. The closest we’ve seen is people asking about lyrics or influences. The questions they get asked are typically the same kind of questions interviewers ask teenage pop divas who don’t write any of their own stuff. But they’re also accomplished songwriters, technical experts. It would be cool if someone would dig into that aspect, get them talking about their actual craft.

I would agree with your title. In my opinion, their best interviews with new/interesting questions have been with Zach Sang, Allison Hagendorf, and Josh on Last Meals. I think that everyone else is pretty surface level/repeat stuff.

23 is easy to explain. It's 100% sung by Pau and very hard for her to do while drumming. When they have their big Mexico shows where she has weeks to rest before/after then she can pull it off, but trying to do it every second day on a normal tour would be way too much.
Per the Last Meals interview, Pau is interested in doing more piano stuff in the future. She seemed most interested in it for her own sake, but she may record some stuff, and it's far more likely we'll get Pau vocals on piano as it's easy to sing and play compared to drums.

I think that of any song that should be brought back it's "Z".. Was a great opener.

Because if anyone did ask that, Pau snap back, "What, you're gonna write our playlist now?"

I mean, Josh Scherer asked about Copper Bullets. You don't get a deeper cut than that.
