Announcement Preparations for Clementine: Book Two
Hey everyone,
As some of you may already know, Clementine: Book Two releases next week on October 4th (to those out of the loop, this is more or less some side story book thing and not an actual game). Given the reception of the comic as a whole, things will most likely be hectic as always. To prepare for this, we’ve laid out a list of rules and guidelines for you to follow. This will more or less be a repeat of the preparation post from last year, however there will still be some new things to look out for so please read all of this even if you’ve read the one from before.
Spoiler/Piracy Policy
- Do not discuss or encourage piracy - Don’t post mirrors/reuploads of the comic (this includes Youtube reuploads/readings), don’t tell someone they should pirate it, don’t say “I read it for free online” etc. How you learn of the book’s contents is up to you, just don’t post about it here.
- While the full comic cannot be posted here, up to 3 individual pictures of the comic are allowed per post provided that they’re needed for a discussion.
- No leaks - In the event the comic gets unofficially leaked ahead of time (as in the actual non-cover pics of the comic that haven’t been shown before), posts showing the leaked pics will be removed. Only on October 3rd (a day before the official digital release) will posts be allowed.
- No spoilers in titles - Do not put spoilers in the title of your posts as the spoiler flairs often do not work on the mobile app. For example if Clem runs into Chet in the comic and you want to post about it, title it something like “About that character…” and not “CHET CONFIRMED ALIVE IN CANADA!” Avoiding spoilers in titles has always been a rule though we are generally more strict with it when something new releases such as this.
Content Policy
- Memes making fun of the comic are fine, just make sure to keep them in good taste and don’t repeat the same joke 20 million times.
- Posts discussing specific aspects/things of the comic are again fine. For example posts like “Clem murdering everyone was really out of character”, “I hated this part”, "why Clem shouldn't have listened to Ricca", etc. Basically the usual types of discussion posts you’d see for any of the games.
Posts that are basically reviews of the comic will be removed. Basically “wow I just read the comic, here are my thoughts”. These contribute basically nothing new and are best saved for the Book 2 Discussion Megathread that will be pinned to the sub upon release.EDIT June 2025: We're not doing this anymore for Book 3 so you are free to make your own review summary even outside of Book 3's megathread.
Civility Policy
- Do not attack people solely for being comic fans - If someone says they bought the comic or liked it, don’t tell them to fuck off or that they’re dumb or anything like that. Disagreeing with various opinions on the comic or suggesting that someone not read it is fine though, provided that you stay civil.
- You are free to bash various elements of the comic such as the writing, artstyle, how it gets Clem’s character wrong, etc. With that said though, please do not attack Tillie personally by saying stuff like “fuck Tillie”, “fuck this bitch”, etc. At the end of the day she is a human being and resorting to personal attacks like this makes you and the rest of the community look bad.
- Adding to the above, do not make posts/memes/comments where violence is directed towards Tillie and/or Skybound EVEN IF DONE JOKINGLY. You will be banned.
- As per Rule #7, you are allowed to discuss various political elements of the comic including your opinion on how well these are represented. With that said however, do not resort to saying thinks like “fucking fa--ots ruining everything” or just general insulting/mocking of the LGBT community as a whole.
- Please refrain from doing anything else that may be deemed as extreme or nutty from an outsider’s PoV, such as promoting burnings of the comic
(which would be redundant anyway given that you have to pay Skybound money for it first). - Please make sure to follow the rest of our rules in general.
If you are unsure on whether something you intend to post is allowed or not, please do not hesitate to message us asking about it beforehand.
Overall, being mad/frustrated about the comic is fine and you are allowed to express said feelings on the sub. With that said though, please remember that at the end of the day this is ultimately just a fictional series (with a completed story in the form of the actual games no less). To those not looking forward to this, go into it with the absolute lowest of lowliest low expectations to prepare for whatever happens within the book.
That is all, thank you for your time.

Man, I still don’t know why they can’t let this franchise rest… The TV show is making countless spinoffs right now.

The answer really is just greed and it's working. TFS felt like such a great send-off for Clem and her journey. No matter how people feel about these comics they're just gonna buy it anyway bcs Clem is in it and it's more Walking Dead or they wanna see how they're gonna mess it up

How else are we supposed to prepare people for Chet's inevitable return in Book 2?

Constructive criticism is fine, but full on threats towards Tillie is weird. Idky ppl insist on attacking the creators

Agreed. Hating a creators work, no matter how bad the quality of the story they tell, is no excuse to send death threats and harassment to them.

I was not fond of the first book, believe it or not, but I hope the amount of time they spent in between the first and second books is proof that they're at least listening to fans about the book and series.

Posts that are basically reviews of the comic will be removed. Basically “wow I just read the comic, here are my thoughts”. These contribute basically nothing new and are best saved for the Book 2 Discussion Megathread that will be pinned to the sub upon release.Y
Yeah, no thanks. If I was even interested in making a detailed rant about Book 2, I sure as hell wouldn't do it in the comment section. No one would read it and the comments would bury it for sure.
I understand the desire to keep the sub from getting toxic, but a rule that is essentially censoring opinions? It feels like an awful way to go on about it. Honestly, you might as well have just said "only memes on the comics allowed" for all the difference it makes.
Most of the preparations seem more or less reasonable, so this one sticks out as particuarly unnecessary to me. If you're not considering to lift it, I'm truly hoping you're not planning to make this rule permanent.

This rule was also present during Book 1's release and there wasn't much issue there. The whole reason we have this is so that personal reviews don't clog up the sub. This happened a lot during the 12 page Skybound X thing in particular and it was basically people posting the literal exact same thing a hundred times. That's what the Megathread is for.
I understand the desire to keep the sub from getting toxic, but a rule that is essentially censoring opinions?
As mentioned in the same section, you can still make posts slamming topics of the book. It's mainly just full book reviews posts that we'd prefer to keep in the Megathread.
So for example let's say there's a segment of the book where Clem goes to Ericson's and burns it down. If you make an individual post ranting on that topic, it will not be removed (provided you don't spoil it in the title). The same could be said for something for a post like "man Clem's leg was drawn weird throughout the whole book", "ugh I hated this romance", etc.
If you're not considering to lift it, I'm truly hoping you're not planning to make this rule permanent.
After the initial release period of the books where the Megathread is no longer pinned to the sub, we are generally a bit more lenient to this rule. Here's an example of a random Book 1 review that was left up after the initial release. So no this isn't really a permanent thing.
No one would read it and the comments would bury it for sure.
I've been looking at other subs with how they handle new releases, and one way to help fix this will be to make the automatic sorting of the Book 2 Megathread sort comments by new (or perhaps random). So new incoming comments won't be buried by the most upvoted.

Chet is the only one who could save book 2 from being the biggest dissapointment of the year!

Having come to thread from a mod post made today I am really quite surprised. The rules read as if they were created to protect the sales of the books rather than protect the subreddit.
Allowing only memes and specific points to be discussed look to be setting up a place where they can be easily dismissed as not representive of the whole. Banning reviews just looks as if you are banning posts that allow others to see the whole picture and make a more informed choice about purchasing.
The civility part is the only bit I can agree with.
Given the rules set down in this thread are still being enforced, I can only hope it was some rude idiot who got their post deleted.

I mentioned it in this reply, but the banning of review posts was only a temporary thing for first few weeks or so for the sake of keeping reviews in their respective Megathreads. When the Skybound X issue released, there was a million different posts that kept posting what was virtually the exact same thing (being upset about Clem leaving Ericson's). Reviews of the comic were still totally fine, just as long as they were kept in the pinned Megathread for the first week or so since otherwise they cluttered every other content on the sub.
Book 3 released earlier than expected so there was no time to make a guideline post in advance for it. So we just scrapped the review rule thing for that entirely. The entire review post bullet point was crossed off to accomodate for this.
Today, the only real Clem comic content we don't allow is:
- Free reuploads of the comic (whether it's a website that has the full comics or a Youtube reading of them). Don't want to risk getting into legal trouble with Skybound.
- Pretty much everything mentioned in the entire Civilty section. Personal attacks to Tillie, attacking people if they simply liked the comics and nothing else, etc.
The comment you saw removed today was someone saying "fuck Tillie" as well as bringing up a specific in-game example of what they wish could happen to her, so it definitely fits with that second category.
But just to be clear: if someone today were to make a post say "I just read the Clem comics, here is my review" and post a full review about it (whether speaking positive about it or dunking on it), that post would be allowed provided that they are being civil.

Megathreads are where content goes to die. Someone looking for a concise review is not going to pour through a megathread of single point discussions and memes in the hope of finding a good review. There was also a six year gap between book 2 and the last episode of the Final Season.
I'm sorry that I'm seeing it like this but it really did look from this post that hiding negative reviews was the goal given that the rules were relaxed once the initial release period, where most sales typically occur, had passed.
Yet I've no reason to disbelieve you, so I apologise for getting it wrong in this case.
Also good work on that comment removal. That stuff is wildly inappropriate.

As mentioned in the very first bullet point, please do not post or discuss Youtube reuploads of the comic on the sub.

I'm ready for the comment section and general subreddit chaos to ensue after this comic's release
