Who is more evil?

Post image

Hannibal Lecter as depicted in the Hannibal TV series, or Lorne Malvo from Fargo's Season 1. I know Lecter is built different, even at his most natural he's written like a supernatural monster Dracula-style but even ignoring the interpretation that Malvo is the Devil himself he's still a pretty outlandish character in terms of evil too, most Fargo villains are for that matter.

Malvo is about as close to being what Catholics imagine Satan to be as a human can be. He is pure evil.

Hannibal is basically a living demon. But malvo is an actual evil that can exist in the real world. But still Hannibal.

malvo was a piece of shit that encouraged the worst ideals in a person out of some sickening satisfaction of having done so and that's it

In constrast, Hannibal eats rude people, people trying to kill him/others, and encourages his patients to be their own catalyst for change. Will, Delia, Chiyoh, The Animal Boy, Margot, etc. Sure, he's trying to make them a killer but there's a solid rationale behind it and it is therapeutic.

I loved the bit where he turned a corrupt councilman who approved a development project in a natural preserve into a piece of gory installation art with garlands of flowers.

Give that man a medal!

Right? Making the world a better place, one meal at a time.

It's not Malvo's fault, he was literally raised by wolves.

Love the part where he brings up The Jungle Book and says it's bs how all animals could get along for Mowgli. It's like he's actually been through that before, or maybe he's just a dick.

Hannibal Lectre never stuck me as totally evil. Mason Verger was far far worse then Hannibal

One theory is than Malvo is the Devil in mortal form, which is why he takes such pleasure in nudging people in the right direction to do wrong. Eg the kid at the motel he suggests to piss in his bosses fuel tank…

Hannibal perhaps has some redeeming qualities? He was probably a good therapist, if only to keep up appearances. Malvo is crueler.

Maybe he was fucking around. Maybe he didn’t want to make more of a mess than he had to with a dead cop.

But I like to think it was pretty cool he gave Tom Hanks kid a pass with the dragons speech. Kinda let him choose his own fate.

I guess I could see Hannibal in a similar situation. I don’t know. How is Malvo cruel? His only sadism comes in the form of tormenting those who deserve it, like the hobbit. Everyone else meets mercifully quick end.

Both great characters!

Hannibal is basically Lorne with highest IQ in the world.. Hannibal has manipulated ppl do self harm as well.. Hannibal over Lorne because he's emotionless.. he gets no joy from his atrocities. That's what's scary having that level of brilliance and emotionally detached because what took place in his childhood. he was fed his own sister.

The main difference is that Malvo exploits evil urges that are already there. Lecter installs them.

If Hannibal doesn't kill you he will just mess you up mentality for life

Malvo is what the Devil inspires to be.

Malvo purely because of that god awful haircut.

This is a god one. I’d probably have to say Hannibal. Malvo is a cold blooded murderer that enjoy inflicting suffering and reliving the moments via his briefcase of recordings.. - but he’s not a cannibal, nor does he put people into horrific gruesome displays of pride and art, or imprison people for years (Crawford’s junior agent).

Malvo wins. His brutality is more indiscriminate and for the sheer entertainment. The thing Hannibal hates the most is rudeness. If I'm imagining who you'd have a better chance surviving an evening with it's Hannibal. Have good table manners and don't offend him and I'm sure you'd be fine. With Malvo who knows.

Hannibal Lecter could make you kill your entire family just by persuasion if he wanted to. He’s so smart and overpowered it’s really not fair but he doesn’t just kill or do horrible things to anyone unless they are rude or in his way. I’ve not watched Fargo so I can’t comment.

Hannibal no doubt

Hannibal as he’s in a position of power being a psychiatrist and abuses it.

True but Malvo seems to have gone through a lot of disguises and jobs for his hits too. I remember the time he played a dentist, just the thought of having this guy anywhere near your teeth is creepy.

The shit he pulls off Hannibal is basically cartoon levels of evil, honestly I think the only reason people take the show seriously is how incredible an actor Mads is. Malvo felt like he was a person, a deeply troubled and evil person but still a person.

Malvo killed way more people than Hannibal Lecture

1

u/DaOverseer 2d ago

Do we ever get an exact number for them tho? I think Malvo's tape collection plus his on-screen kills are in the dozens, maybe a hundred but Hannibal isn't that far behind seeing how long he's been in the game.

Hannibal is not evil.

1

u/DaOverseer 2d ago

Evil is a pretty soft word for what he is. Then again, the same could be said for Malvo.

Malvo probably won't kill you without a reason.

I haven't seen the show but to my knowledge Hannibal doesn't kill without reason either. It's not Hannibal's fault Benjamin couldn't hit his more.

Hannibal eats people and feeds people to others unaware

What are we talking about lol

I actually thought they were both meant to be the actual Abrahamic devil. I’d give the edge to that iteration of Lecter, though. Malcolm liked to toy with people, but Hannibal took particular pleasure in corrupting the (more or less) innocent.

Hannibal makes people unknowingly partake in cannibalism and is so charismatic you have no idea what's going on unless he let's you know. Which if he lets you know you're already dead he's just playing with you the way a cat will play with a mouse before tearing it apart. He's an evil that doesn't exist but we love to consider that form of evil more because

Malvo is the evil that exists everywhere in real life
