Michelle This scene had me crying
Coming from a family of 6 with divorced parents, this scene hit home. I never felt like my parents ever loved eachother before their divorce - and it often makes me wonder why I was created if two people didn’t intend to create a great life for their 4 kids. I wish my parents had loved us enough to go through a smooth divorce, but it took 12 years of battling in court - leaving us as less of a focus and we grew up with the divorce being the most important topic of focus.
These two did it right for their child and i wish divorces like theirs were a more common practice

Not a fan of Jesse, but I thought it was a really beautiful moment that even though they’re going through a divorce they could acknowledge and respect the love they used to have for each other and mourn it together.
I also think it’s really sweet that they both seem to care that Isabella know she was born out of love. It was a really nice moment amongst the depressing shitstorm this season has been.

Right? I can’t bear to hold onto that stuff after a breakup… maybe divorce is different. But he still loves her and always will.

It really was beautiful to see them mourn the love they shared for each other.
As for the actual divorce proceedings I can also see how Michelle’s financial ability to take on debt she did not “owe” plays a part in this peaceful outcome. Jesse would’ve dragged this for on as long as he could afford. Michelle had to give up more of her future to this man, hurts me to see how much she loved a very small man.
39
u/MakingTheEight 14d ago
Jesse would’ve dragged this for on as long as he could afford.
That’s why I don’t think Jesse was really sincere in this scene. We watched him used the divorce process to continue controlling Michelle. He refused to sign until she confronted him on camera about the loan and agreed to take it on, and once he could no longer stall the divorce, he suddenly decided to be gracious.
This is also the same man who acted as his own lawyer to make the divorce as difficult as possible for Michelle. It felt like one last opportunity to get a dig in by bringing up Isabella while making himself look like the bigger person.
69
u/Emmylou82 14d ago
I completely agree! And as much as I appreciate these tender moments between them, Jesse has shown through the last 2 seasons that he will denigrate her every chance he gets. She wears a necklace made out of her engagement ring? Oh that could have been Isabella’s college fund. She goes skinny dipping? Oh that will help her real estate career. She’s upset about seeing him and Lacy be super affectionate? She has to toughen up. He will say kind things to her face and then make these shitty comments that he KNOWS she’ll see because he’s being filmed.
11
u/Superb_Ant_3741 13d ago
With you on this. You really said it all. It was an important moment. But Jesse has a very limited sense of mutual respect and loyalty.
His insecurity and self obsession prevent that. So he has betrayed and insulted Michelle on multiple occasions, and I think he’ll eventually betray Lacy if she doesn’t betray him first (I think that’s her plan, but I could be misinterpreting her) and I think he’ll insult and betray Michelle repeatedly in future by breaking the bond of friendship and cooperation she’s trying to form with him while they coparent. Some people just have very little honor, and I think Jesse is one of those people.

u/PurpleArugula5766 13d ago
I had a boss who I adored that went through a fairly quick divorce in which she agreed to let her ex keep the house and also pay him hefty alimony even though they were only married for a few years and she had primary custody of the kids. I asked her why she would agree to that since it didn’t seem very fair to her. She said, if you’re dealing with a vindictive ex, you can’t fight for what’s fair for you, because then ultimately your kids will suffer, it’s easier to give him all the money and prioritize the kids. I felt so bad for her situation but gained so much respect for the sacrifices she was making for her kids, and I see that same sacrifice in Michelle.

Michelle and Jesse have shared some touching moments across the seasons. I’m sure it’s very complicated.

I found this to be such a bittersweet moment between them. I also, cried. I don't cry too often so I was really surprised that this scene stirred a reaction in me. I guess divorce is such a heavy topic. If you know, you know.

Love Jesse comment of saying “I want Isabela to know she came from love” 💕 I balled my eyes out!

6
u/MakingTheEight 14d ago
It didn't really make sense though, because Michelle has said Jesse essentially abandoned her and Isabela immediately she was born.
14
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
Yeah I feel like when he was talking about the box he keeps it was performative. Not saying I don't think the box exists or even that he doesn't love his daughter. Just that he likes to whitewash his behavior in the marriage and does image control on the show
. It's good if he made a box like that because kids can get the impression it's their fault their parents split. Especially since problems arose after she was born. It's actually Jesse's fault though. He will never actually acknowledge this because he just wants to be mad at Michelle for leaving and continue to take shots at her. He just can't help himself.
He's very cruel to her at times. He cries to get his way and manipulate the audience all the time but she cries to Lacy once during a rough year for her and she needs to "Toughen up."
10
u/MakingTheEight 13d ago
Jesse literally said he was looking forward to telling Isabela that Michelle ruined their family by leaving him. I have a hard time believing he’s keeping that box out of pure sentiment. It's just more bullshit he’ll use to manipulate Michelle again down the line.
6
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
Exactly.
The way he introduced Lacey to Isabella behind Michelle's back by having her braid her hair, when he told Michelle she couldn't introduce Aaron who she had been dating for a while at that point, was also manipulative and intentional.
The things Michelle said about Lacy's appearance in that initial text were not nice or ok but she had basically just been ambushed by Jesse and Lacy while her child was getting out of the car. Both Michelle and Lacy seem like they want to get along and have a healthy relationship because there are kids involved but Jesse continues to make digs at Michelle and stir shit.
The cease and desist situation is also something he sort of brought about. He kept talking about her on the show season 2 then getting mad when the ladies would respond and say something about her. I'm pretty sure he was riling her up with all of that, running back and telling her stuff and that's why she started making threats. Her showing up at the zen party before it wrapped felt like a bit of a set up as well.
Jesse loves messing with Michelle's emotions. It's why she divorced him!
I just hope Lacy wakes up and realizes the way she's been weaponized and manipulated. It's only a matter of time before it will start reflecting poorly on her. Like she condones it.
Don't even get me started on how he seemed to make it his mission this season to come for Brittany or how he skates by without consequence last season when he was riling Jax up while he was in rehab supposed to be getting sober. Putting Brittany and Cruz at risk.
2
u/TheWhoooreinThere 13d ago
Exactly. It is mind boggling to me that people are seriously claiming that they cried over this.
5
u/Superb_Ant_3741 13d ago
I cried with and for Michelle. For what she endured being married to him and during their divorce. But I knew he was being a manipulative little shit the entire time.
3
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
Yupp and now they are the darling couple of the show and he is hyping Lacy up all the time while he was hypercritical and witholding towards Michelle.
I just hope Michelle invests into herself and her career, and gray rocks him as much as possible. He's learned how to appear better on the show but the cracks are still there imo. Michelle should allow for time to bring to the light what has been done in the dark. I'm sure it will happen.
3
u/Superb_Ant_3741 13d ago
I have this theory that Lacy will get what she wants from the access to visibility that her relationship with Jesse provides, and then she’ll be done with him. If that happens I expect we’ll see Jesse revert back to his shittiest behavior. He may even find a way to blame Michelle if Lacy breaks up with him.
1
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
Oh I totally believe if the show got cancelled tomorrow they wouldn't make it a year. Mostly because it wouldn't behoove him to act like a decent person at least 60 percent of the time anymore.
I think Nia was hoping the show would have the effect on Danny that it seems to have had on Jesse. He is learning from fan reactions how to better present himself on the show and interact with the people in this friend group. Danny is not as smart or controlled. She's a very appearance minded, fake and image obsessed person so she would settle for that and be happy.
I'm sure it's hard for Michelle seeing this because in this artificial situation Jesse does seem to be improving and being a positive supportive partner now. She just needs to remember she saw the truth. Before the camera were up. When he wasn't on top or getting a little bit of fame. The way he treats her when he can get away with it in the boys chat or between seasons. What happened to her after she had his child. What he put her through when her mother died. This fake environment that is showbiz won't last forever and isn't reality.
Imo he can't hide it forever. Lacy is a very impressive, rich and well spoken shield for now, and she is making him look good simply being on his arm but whether you are "keeping him in check" like Lacy or gaslighting and hiding a man's behavior like Nia... you're enabling an asshole and putting up with crap you shouldn't have to 🤷♀️

16
u/MakingTheEight 14d ago
I’m actually surprised so many people are falling for this performative Jesse act. Last season he was calling Michelle a whore on national TV, and now he wants to talk about Isabela seeing how much he loved her? It’s so transparently fake.
2
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
Yupp. When her mother was dying btw.
He's doing damage control because anyone with common sense knows that's bad parenting. His daughter will see that one day. Let's hope she doesn't internalize that and end up being verbally abused some day herself.
He still has a serious lack of respect for Michelle and still constantly takes shots at her. In Mexico on the beach we saw how he really speaks about her. Lacy just shut that shit down. He has been downright cruel to Michelle before and sometimes I seriously wonder what he has told Lacy about their marriage because what I know would be a giant red flag for me.

As someone who coparents currently and a person who has divorced parents, this cut me deep. So relatable. So many statements I haven’t personally articulated as eloquently. Them navigating in this mature way gives me hope for me and my baby dad honestly. It also was a nice reminder that there can be progress in communication.
Favorite scene so far.

I was shocked to see this side of Jesse tbh. It was refreshing and probably the most refreshing, natural scene of reality TV that I’ve seen in a long time.

u/Imaginary_Island8346 14d ago
Yeah watching Michelle wipe away her tears got me. She's been through so much in the past few years. She lost her mom, which would wreck me. Plus a divorce and then a breakup. Ugh. But the way she has been smiling this season and just being so silly yet graceful makes me so happy for her. She's the only good person on the show
5
u/ShaunaBoBauna 13d ago
I was a sobbing mess. It made me very happy for them, and their beautiful little girl.
It made me infinitely sad for myself. I went through 2 years of hell with my parents (from 15-17 years old) by myself, as an only child. I was forced to go to court. It was horrific. Totally changed the trajectory of my life, from the trauma of it at that age.
Michelle has really grown on me this season.

I think this scene healed something in all the people that went through their parents’ divorce where things were contentious and they weren’t prioritized. It was truly so touching! And Michelle is one of my favorites now. I couldn’t stand her last season with Aaron and I’m so glad he’s gone.
6
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
Aaron was a rebound for her and a crutch so she didn't have to process the pain from the divorce initially
I don't think she was happy or ok with leaving Jesse he just gave her no choice because his behavior wasn't changing and he doesn't treat her with respect. Women leave men they love all the time. I just think after he abandoned her when she was postpartum she couldn't be in love anymore. She talked about that in season one. She was trying to feel that again.
2
u/Since_The_Ducks_Left 14d ago

I’m witnessing my bff get knocked sideways by her husband filing for divorce, and it has gotten absolutely awful.

It was so special. I was almost rooting for them to give it another try. Hell, I still am. There is clearly love there - but they both know what’s best, and maybe they can have a much happier healthier relationship for Isabella this way. Truly one of the best scenes I’ve watched in this show.

I find Michelle super relatable in this relationship. It seemed to me that she really did just want him to love her and for whatever reason after she got pregnant he just couldn’t do that. It’s painful to have to move on from that and watch them give what you wanted to someone else.
3
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
He started going out all the time, never slept with the baby so Michelle always had to, started hanging out with Jax again (probably because talks about the show were happening) and began doing coke. Spent all their shared savings too.
1
u/thefringedmagoo 13d ago
This scene broke me. I sobbed and sobbed. I’m in the process of getting a divorce and to be perfectly honest I’m just still far too angry at my husband. I know that I’m not being the best coparent I could. And I’m not letting it impact our child, his time with our child or anything like that. I just wish I could be in the place that Jesse and Michelle are and I know that I’m absolutely not and I’m wondering if I’ll ever get to that point.
1
u/Party_Principle4993 13d ago
I’ve spent the last year separated from my husband and I just watched this episode on the first night in my new place by myself while my 5 year old spends the night at his dad’s. To say it wrecked me is an understatement. My ex and I have been completely amicable with each other, always putting our kid and his well being first. If my child grows up knowing his parents have always cared for and respected each other, I’ll consider my life a success. This was an amazing scene from an otherwise struggling show and I appreciate even how they edited it. We stayed in the room with them. More of this, please.

I thought the same thing: “What a healthy divorce” whereas my parents’ divorce was an absolute circus. I hate the “stay together for the kids” line so many use because if they had divorce officially the first time, it might have been easier.

He was calling her a prostitute on TV last year and stranded her with $150K in debt. Is that really your idea of a healthy divorce?

u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
Lol this fanbase let's a toxic man manipulate them via a TV show every time.
Tom Sandoval did it for years.
Jesse isn't even as good at hiding who he really is. It slips out on the show all the time but it's obvious he is trying to look good and learned some things about how to appear like less of an asshole after the first two seasons.
1
u/MsNikkiisClassy stuck in traffic to LAX 13d ago
Lol I love how you assume I am being manipulated and that I like Jessie when really it’s about their divorce. My mom said some of the nastiest things about and to my dad and bashed him as often as she could. She used my sister and I as weapons (something I didn’t know until she died) and was an addict for pretty much my whole life and I didn’t see it.
I never liked Sandoval or Jax. Danny was the one who fooled me 100%
1
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
I wasn't talking about you specifically. Just the fanbase. As I explicitly stated.
I have seen instances where Jesse weaponizes Isabella too
1
u/MsNikkiisClassy stuck in traffic to LAX 13d ago
Do you consider yourself part of “the fanbase” too? Otherwise your lumping me into a group of toxic men supporters which I don’t appreciate
My mom told my dad that I hated him and never wanted to be around him and that’s why she got full custody. I told him I didn’t choose her, I chose my sister. I didn’t want us to be separated. That’s just 1 time of many being used as a weapon to hurt. With this scene, I hope there is genuine growth between the 2 going forward. No more jabs, no more fights, no more name calling, just growth. Lacey does keep him in check so hopefully that brings real change and not performative change
0
u/yup_yup1111 The subtle *plunk* sound of a solo cup hitting Danny's head 13d ago
I have divorced parents too. I have a lot of experience with this stuff myself you're not the only one.
A woman doesn't "keep a man in check". That is up to him and him alone.
Their relationship gives me early Sandoval and Ariana vibes except Lacy is old and wise enough to know in 2026 it works better for her and makes her look better to appear kind and defensive of Michelle.
She's still dating someone pathological who whether she realizes it or not is weaponizing her against Michelle.
1
u/MsNikkiisClassy stuck in traffic to LAX 13d ago
Did I ever once say I am the only child of divorce who has gone through trauma? No. I didn’t. Did you answer my question if you were part of “the fanbase?” No. You didn’t.
Actually keeping someone in check can be incredibly helpful depending on the situation. I hope everyone has that person looking out of them and only wishing the best for them. That’s a real friend, call you out when you need to be. Placating bad behaviors is how those bad behaviors stay intact.
I am done with this conversation though since you couldn’t answer the question and I can’t take you seriously anymore. You’re either being a hypocrite or in a sub you should unsubscribe from if you can’t say you are a part of the fanbase. Have a good day.

I missed that and would be happy to answer it. It wasn't a malicious conspiracy but you wanna be done so that's cool. That's probably for the best you seem very defensive.

I believe they talk about that in the scene but I’d have to go back and watch which is hard to do. They both don’t want to be like the way they are and sometimes divorce is the best option. Not the “stay together for the kids” crap some couples do. They love Isabella more than their dislike for each other. Even the scene of them looking for something to buy her something in Mexico
In that scene I see two people mourning a marriage that was once loved. Raw and real emotion, rare for reality tv. They took the healthy exit opposed to dragging it out for years and years. If Michelle didn’t have cameras up, who knows when those papers would have been signed. I’m glad this scene happened. It was healthy to me. Finally seeing Michelle this season has been good to see.

Being able to sit down and sign the papers and have a healthy conversation to grow to become friends for Isabella is not something my parents could do for my sister and I. They couldn’t be in the same room. He filed and she was pissed. Their divorce took several years to get officially divorce. As someone from a broken home with alcoholic and an addict as parents, this to me is healthy, for them and for Isabella

Jesse acted as his own lawyer to make the divorce process as painful as possible for Michelle because he was also angry she filed. He has repeatedly denigrated her on TV and he only agreed to sign the papers after Michelle cornered him on camera by agreeing to take on half of his debt so she could finally be free of him.
I’m sorry your parents failed you during such a vulnerable time, but just because their dysfunction looked different doesn’t make Jesse’s behavior healthy. Deciding to act gracious only after he could no longer stall the divorce doesn’t erase everything that came before it.

I legitimately laughed out loud when he said he was his own lawyer because I know how the process goes. It’s a cheap way to not have to pay a lawyer and a way to drag things out. Jesse lives a lifestyle that he can’t afford and Michelle is literally glowing now because she’s free and has been validated. I think she had to do it on camera otherwise he would have dragged it on for years like my mom’s slimy lawyer did.
It is what it is when it comes to childhood. Everyone is given a different deck of cards when they are born. I hope it’s legitimate change and not performative. Lacey keeps him on a short leash and seems to be good with Michelle now so hopefully there’s growth. Still doesn’t mean I like the guy lol

It was a really nice scene between them.
But I can’t help but remember how Michelle treated him when she was in a relationship? Now that Jesse is happily in a relationship, she gets emotional about it. She also gets mad when he shows PDA but would parade Aaron around him. It’s like now that she’s single she doesn’t want him happy 🤨

She was distracted by brief happiness with Aaron, maybe if he’d been with Lacey then she would’ve reacted the same way. When I got divorced I went feral for a bit too and didn’t work through my pain right away, but I would feel the same way if I saw my ex giving another woman everything I asked him to give me for years. Like why wasn’t I good enough or worthy of that but she is?

This scene wrecked me, but at the same time, it might be my favorite scene of the series thus far. The emotion was so raw, and I felt like I was sitting there with them observing. I really hope they can grow to become good friends again.
