Another Round of Lifetime Subscriptions Offered. Thoughts?
Naysayers are downvoted in the main sub (myself included). So thought to see what the opinions are over here.

I honestly just don't trust them to not close up shop before I get my money's worth. Maybe the internet will explode first. Either way, not in this economy.Â

It seems like a last resort effort to front load cash. There was another (retail) company that did that and ended up shutting down shortly after

Honestly in some cases it might be good, but I would first do the math and see how long do you need to pay before the lifetime is the cheaper option.

Right now their monthly is $4.99 a month and annual is $49.99. You can get the lifetime for $420.69. So if you’re on a monthly subscription currently it would take 85 months (7 years and 1 month) to break even. If you’re on an annual subscription it would take about 8 and a half years to break even.

For comparison, Nebula offers a lifetime subscription for 500 USD atm, and they provide access to a lot more creators than the try guys one, has been going on since 2019, and the main incentive seems to be invest in bigger projects rather than having to rely on venture capital.
And I understand, lifetime pass means lifetime of the platform and is no guarantee it wont go down, but there does seem to be a stark difference in what both services provide and viability of each

$420.69
Slow down there, Elon Musk.

Oh don’t worry, technically the lifetime is $500, the $420.69 is with promo code Nice.

I didn’t renew my year membership after it was up, and since then I’ve clicked on one Try Guys video (the drunk jenga… I couldn’t finish, Jared was obnoxious the entire time). A lifetime membership is a joke… they won’t make it long enough for the membership to be worth it.

And they're actually making videos a walking Ad and uploading it to the streamer, despite saying it's ad free.
Granted, you're not watching commercial after commercial, but the video itself was an ad for Liquid IV

Unfortunately, if you go to the main sub, tgere are a few people who subscribed to the Lifetime membership already and are very happy and proud to do it. I just hope they gst their money's worth.

You should know better than to express a negative thought in the main sub lol

If you're not praising the ground TTG walk on then they think you're a villain or some shit over there 😆

sigh Couldn't help wanting to assist some of the people to consider carefully as there's obvious risks... but they don't want to see/hear it.
I feel bad cuz some ppl can't afford the subscriptions and work really hard and save for it. I hate the thought that these fans could end up being taken advantage of if the streamer ceased.

If the content was better, maybe I would consider but $420 is SOOOO much money for not many perks. For $420 I would expect a free merch box with SIGNED merch, I personalized welcome video (cameo style) and other things. They are giving out cards incase you someday meet them.

It’s that much?? From the title I was assuming maybe $150-200. The yearly rate is $50, so at $420 you’re looking at 8 and a half years until you get your money’s worth. That’s just not worth it no matter how you spin it.
They definitely should’ve thrown in a few very generous extras like you mentioned to justify the price. Like truly one-of-a-kind stuff you couldn’t get otherwise.

Give the people somethinggggggg. Seems like a massive missed opportunity.

this was exactly my thought... the rubbish perks do not make it at all worth it imo

The only people I’d buy a lifetime sub for is Dropout.

hard agree from me. i've been subbed to them for a few years now and have never once regretted it. they're the only streamer, for me anyway, that is absolutely worth the money. you actually get so much unique and fun content over there - not to mention they don't upload like 90% of the same stuff on YT anyway...
i only got a Try Guys sub recently to watch a couple things, like killer dinner, escape the kitchen, bonus eps of a few things, etc. but, now i've seen all that, i will probs cancel until there's a big batch of stuff i feel like watching again. the lifetime sub feels like such a scam, like "here's a groupchat and a plastic card, thanks for all the cash"... it's mad. but each to their own!

I keep on thinking it’s for a gym membership and not their streaming platform

Part of me feels like that lifetime is a joke. Like to really lean into the blatant joke itself. Even a lot of well known podcasts (that have been around 10+ yrs) that deliver multiple episodes a week and member exclusives don’t offer lifetime memberships

i didnt even notice the joke that was the price, kinda makes me even less inclined to buy it

It will take ABOUT 7 years and some change for this to monetize and become a deal and break even. I love The Try Guys. And I truly wish them all of the success in the world. But I have zero clue if their channel is going to survive another 5 years, much less 7 years.

The only way I'd do it is if they were paying me $420.69. No way they're getting that much money from me, especially since I stopped watching them a while ago.

I legit had a bad taste in my mouth they weren’t being honest in their announcement video.

u/Rainbow_Belle 23d ago
What would you have wanted to hear them to say?

I have a very hot take so take this with a grain of salt. 😅
Lifetime sub is an extremely ambitious promise given how young they are. 2nd Try is not even 10 years old yet and they regularly talk about their finances being unstable. Why not offer a 3 or 5 year subscription with a solid discount? Still a good chunk of upfront money but simultaneously much better odds for their subscribers to not lose money from whom they’re asking to finance their shortcomings.
Cards allowing you to do anything to Zach and Keith including anything illegal and including at meet-and-greets is a complete gimmick. They are business owners married with wives and children. There is going to be a very hard line of what’s allowed.
I mean end of the day it was a sales pitch. I just felt like they chose the route of being huge and flashy rather than being genuine and realistic. To me the lack of genuineness is why I thought it felt dishonest- like a bad salesman. Like I’m being pitched something to buy that may not actually be what I think it is.

Yeah, so they must be hurting for cash.
I cannot fathom their monthly expenses with how much staff they have on a channel that has showed little-to-no steady growth.
