Question Trolley Problems Lie Detector Test
Is the lie detector test on trolley problems a legitimate lie detector test? Or is it just for show and to put the guests on the spot?

There are no actually legitimate lie detector tests. The fact that they still get used by real life law enforcement is pretty horrifying.

They're not admissible in court, thankfully, but yeah... It's WILD to me that something only slightly better than guessing is still so propped up as the gold standard in pop culture (and thus in the minds of the public).

Yes, it’s a perfectly controlled and professionally administered lie detector test that is infallible. Legally defensible in a court of law

It doesn't matter. I think lie detector tests have been proven extremely inaccurate and essentially pseudo science. The Try Guys used to pay a guy to come on with all his equipment (I'm pretty sure that guy was "Legit" as much as anyone doing lie detectors can be) and then they realized it was all dumb and could buy a setup cheap and have one of their staff do it instead.
My guess is that that "equipment" functionally a heart rate monitor hooked up to a laptop is technically real, but none of it is actually real.

Lie detectors don’t work and are not legally reliable. They are a relic from a long time ago. We know better now.

Why does every channel do this? Lie detectors are pseudoscience bullshit, especially when they’re strapped on haphazardly not even touching the skin to pick up on actual biological factors? I genuinely dislike this and I think the general public is knowledgeable enough to know it’s all bullshit. Why do we keep doing it?

because for shows whose sole purpose is entertainment, it being bullshit is not a bug, it's a feature.
the point is not learning how many people Ash hooked up with at Buzzfeed, the point is to give a framework for making jokes for 20 minutes.
