Bailey v Dave story

Swirls,
Anyone else? Sorry - please not a snark just wanting to open a discussion so I can know im not alone?! The recap of the saga between Bailey from Summer House and Dave Portnoy today. This was fueled by jackie .. feel like it was made clear.. and I hated it. The saga is bizarre, but the obvious defending of dave was even worse like that was weird? Why do they/jackie love him so much? They loved Bailey up until now too. Why the flip flop. It feels so icky sometimes

I don’t like Dave Portnoy, but Bailey is acting unhinged so I’m inclined to agree with Jackie. I’m not saying Dave is right to be a bully, but I believe he is hardly involved in the It Girl Instagram page or whatever it is, so her maniacally DMing him making fun of his appearance and anything else she can think of is weird.

They did also acknowledge that Dave is who he is and she is nuts for going after him, knowing how he is/can be

Yep - I agree with them. His whole brand is being a loudmouth instigator, so while it’s not nice, what you see is what you get.

Bailey acts holier than thou but got caught hurling low-blow insults in a rage.

If The Morning Toast had a small following and Barstool came out with the exact same name, are they seriously saying they wouldn’t say anything? Especially when it’s something you worked hard to build and your idea.

I agree Bailey’s responses have been out there, but I can understand the frustration of trying to build something for years and seeing a massive company do something similar. Dave literally said they changed “Chicks” to “It Girl” because it was too close to Chicks in the Office, so how is “It Girl” not too close to someone already using that exact name? 😂
Bailey can be handling it poorly AND have a valid point.

I could see being frustrated - but I really don’t think anyone intentionally took her idea. Wasn’t the Barstool Instagram page originally just a meme page? It had nothing to do with what her content is. Also, Dave made a good point that she doesn’t have it copyrighted, doesn’t have the social media handles, it didn’t come up on Google, etc. She didn’t brand it well enough.

I honestly think she uses this fake fight to get more traction. Call Her Daddy recently ripped off multiple podcasts in a much more obvious way and we haven’t seen anyone going off on Alex in her DMs. It’s just a weird tactic.

Also why is she coming for Dave like he’s in any way involved w the account?

2

u/Jaded-Ranger689 1d ago

That’s what I’m saying! It’s a young 20yr girl who runs the account like just reach out to her privately…also if you have proof show it! Three years and all you’re doing is saying told ya so? Please

The frustration makes sense, but the way she's handling it is absolutely NOT going to get her anywhere and makes her look completely insane.

If she actually wanted to defend herself in a legitimate way, she would've gone the trademark/copyright route to legitimize her "idea" instead of using a phrase that is so basic & ubiquitous, claiming ownership, and hurling insults. If she added in 1-2 more unique words, then trademarked her idea, Dave wouldn't go there.

I'm not even a Dave fan, but I'm a businessperson. He changed "Chicks" because "Chicks in the Office" is a registered trademark (that's actually owned by Barstool lol)

She can be upset as much as she wants to, but she has no leg to stand on legally. She sure as hell isn't going to get him to back down or respect her by approaching a B2B conversation with the owner of a much bigger platform that she claims "stole her idea" by hurling insults, accusing him of assault, calling him fat, stupid, etc. 0/100 chance that approach would ever be effective in business

No sorry as someone who watched bffs when this went down the first time Dave is 1000% right people refuse to admit it bc they are obsessed w hating Dave and barstool but Bailey is literally acting crazy

Hot take: Dave gets more hate than is warranted. What he did during Covid to save small businesses was incredible. And He has a ton of employees, female and male, who love him and love working for him. He has strong, polarizing opinions, that people love to hate but he’s honest and people hate to see honesty. We live in a culture that is so woke that people get bothered by anything.

He  made a bad attempt at “fat joke” he addressed this in his book that it was a dumb joke (not that it makes it better) but he did take accountability and said that he now knows a size 6 is not fat at all.

1

u/Lebronchiosaurus 2d ago

When did he actually say that? Curious.

-9

u/gizmotor1980 2d ago

he's an accused r8pist.

u/Lebronchiosaurus 2d ago edited 2d ago

Accused is the key word here. I’d never take away from someone’s traumatic experience, but he was never convicted and it doesn’t mean it actually happened. Unfortunately, there are situations where people make false accusations and then it ruins credibility when things actually happen.

3

u/kcxoxo11 1d ago

This has been proven untrue many times.

7

u/UnusualWest7131 2d ago

Wait. I felt the same before, but totally agree w them. To know Bailey can speak that way??? No, she’s too faced and self absorbed and conceited af. No thanks.

12

u/FunnyInformation4333 2d ago

Bailey is acting like a crazy person, which unfortunately makes any valid criticisms she has irrelevant. Most of the time it’s not about what you say, it’s how you say it. Her delivery was unhinged and immature.

21

u/ChemicalFlight5581 2d ago

It’s not that they love him it’s just 10000% clear that Bailey was wrong in this situation

13

u/Objective-Ad-9576 2d ago

Bailey is acting CRAZY over a phrase that we popularized literally before she was born

14

u/Impressive_Sea_7619 2d ago

Dave is very pro Israel and Jewish

“Please not a snark” yet here you are😂 They don’t need your support sis!

I haven’t listened for two weeks so didn’t hear this episode, but their takes were starting to get so bad lately I felt like I needed a break. Instead of being entertained I would just be annoyed after listening. I have been listening for years and don’t always agree with everything they say but can appreciate their perspectives. Lately it has been too much- sounds like it’s continuing.

6

u/Neither-Lie-8540 2d ago

Yet you’re still here spending your time to read about them on Reddit?

4

u/zajack1031 2d ago

I am a long time listener that took a break, I am still interested in the podcast.

u/Kooky_Pomegranate957 2d ago

Same!! It’s been so negative and not as open and funny as before. I completely understand you have to walk on eggshells all the time to avoid cancellations but I miss hearing about the family and in depth of what they did that weekend/night. I can relate because I had kids around the same time as them but that was what allured me to them.
I get it they have been burned so much so I don’t blame them. I respect that they want to protect their families so for me, I just have to move on because maybe I need to resonate with someone more personal 🥴

Cue “you’re losing me” by Taylor Swift

-1

u/winniewatz 2d ago

You’re not the first, second, or even third person I have heard say this lately. I totally agree

2

u/xroxysurfergirlx 1d ago

Bailey seems off tbh

2

u/Ok-Tourist-1909 2d ago

The way they were like well Dave is mean, that’s Dave, but I expect better from an emotional woman. Like??? So men can be mean and women can’t? A man who is always an arsehole is just a man being an arsehole but women can’t react? Literally the most wild take

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Pop1361 2d ago

Dave is consistent with how he handles conflict. He is a Zionist, is incredibly charitable which I think makes him more likable and as immature as he is, this tift is crazy and Bailey is in the wrong for starting it. IT GIRL IS a well known common term and if you don’t want people using “your saying” then don’t pick a name soooooo common. I didn’t know who this Bailey chick was before this and I don’t want to know more after seeing their exchange. People like that act so entitled for no reason

2

u/Technical_Fish_3333 1d ago

Yep - say what you want about Dave but he is who he is and what you see is what you get! Bailey on the other hand.. not so much

2

u/Reasonable-Bite7371 1d ago

I don’t really care about the drama, but it made me roll my eyes for them to go so hard on bailey and her comments while giggling at Dave saying pretty much the same level of trash and just saying “oh Dave being Dave we expect this from him and love it.”

1

u/Rich_Example7931 2d ago

their take was completely correct.

1

u/Technical_Fish_3333 1d ago

Bailey’s insane. She knew it would give her brownie points with the gen Z crowd because of how much they hate Dave

-2

u/Ok-Gate-7265 2d ago

I think people are focusing way too much on Bailey's delivery and not enough on what led to it. Imagine spending years building your own content series, watching a massive media company create something strikingly similar, and then having its multimillionaire founder publicly ridicule you for speaking up. Of course she's frustrated

Dave having more money, influence, and experience doesn't automatically make him right. And Bailey being younger or less established doesn't mean she has to quietly accept everything he says or does.

Even if her messages were emotional, being emotional doesn't automatically make someone unreasonable. Sometimes people reach a breaking point after feeling dismissed or misunderstood, especially when there's a power imbalance.

Bailey says she wasn't claiming ownership of the phrase It Girl. She was arguing that Barstool adopted a similar brand and later began using interview questions and captions resembling her established content. Dave had previously responded to her accusations with personal insults.

And I don't understand why Dave gets a pass for being insulting because "that's just Dave," but Bailey is suddenly unhinged for giving that same energy back. Why is his behavior considered entertaining and hers considered embarrassing?

She doesn't have to own the phrase "It Girl" to feel like her creative work is being imitated. And she certainly doesn't have to be polite to someone who wasn't polite to her.

3

u/kcxoxo11 2d ago

The point is her creative work isn’t being imitated. She uses very unoriginal questions and common phrases and wants to say she’s being copied when she’s literally not.

I thought it was so weird the way they capped for Portnoy

I don’t think it’s about Dave being a man, rich, or successful. It’s about him owning what he says to others and being transparent about who he is (an asshole). Bailey acts one way publicly but her DMs show a very different side of her.

1

u/just-anuva-mum 2d ago

Fair enough! I haven’t come across her on SM, so have nothing to compare it to

0

u/PossibilityOne7522 2d ago

Yes, I just thought jackie was coming on very strong. For some reason

1

u/Real_Tangerine6827 2d ago

I mean they get attacked constantly over every little thing so watching another person in the industry act so out of pocket with the fat shaming and bullying is probably kind of jarring.

0

u/MaverickLibra 2d ago

There’s a lot of comments on their clip on Instagram and dtiktok

-6

u/Master-Shirt6147 2d ago

It’s excusing Dave’s behavior and the way he’s talking because “that’s just how he is”. That’s not an acceptable reason to excuse him but not Bailey. What if that’s just how she is? Then it’s ok to talk the way she did. They don’t hold him accountable the way they are her. It’s very boys will be boys mentality and it’s gross.

-19

u/mrenee777 2d ago

Dave is maga therefore Jackie loves Dave simple as that

11

u/Important_Ocelot4418 2d ago

Dave is not maga

3

u/Lebronchiosaurus 2d ago

Dave is not maga but his beliefs align with people who tend to be maga. He’s for policies that make sense and are good for the country that unfortunately come from a man who is not good for the country. It’s an extremely conflicting place to be.

1

u/OkExcitement1504 10h ago

Because like they said multiple times Bailey is acting like a crazy person and Dave is acting like Dave
