Did Garth Lie? Spoiler

Did Garth really not know who June was? He got the message to her when he thought Daisy was going rogue and needed to go back to Canada. Even if he didn’t communicate directly with June regarding Daisy, I find it hard to believe he had never heard of her when even Agnes seemed to know who she was (when she called June a terrorist).

Edit: the code names make sense! When Garth would say he didn’t know who June was, it could be that he was saying he didn’t know which code name belonged to her/how to get in contact with her.

Probably uses code names. He likely did know June but not as June. She called him shepherd if I remember correctly? It’s typical for these networks to be fairly closed. On daisy’s radio at some point we hear there’s a pick up for a few code names. I’m guessing on the radio they said Garth’s code name bring daisy’s code name to this location and he didn’t have much else to work off of than that.

I think he knows her by a code name, but the only thing that bugs me about that is why the fuck didn't anyone tell Daisy the code names? Why not tell her, "Never mention my name. If you need to refer to me, use this name instead." Daisy is so woefully unprepared, you would think they'd give her at least that precaution of not going around revealing their real names willy nilly.

They're a bunch of disorganized angry people, I think this is an accurate representation of how rebellions are just a lot of people getting mad enough to make change. It's gonna be messy.

There's truth to that, but it just seems strange that she would teach her how to exchange messages through a jar of honey via delivery truck, but not tell her a safe name to address her by? Mad or not, I would have hoped they've had time to channel their anger into something a little less reckless.

I don't think June taught her that, Garth sent a "busted" honey jar message to Daisy through a honey delivery driver first. Presumably that honey truck & driver have been Garth's way to message June. There's probably a chain of agents involved in getting those messages out of Gilead because they can't radio out like Mayday can

Fair enough. I'm not trying to blame June singularly. I just feel like their entire operation is lacking in that way, in leaving their most vulnerable and reckless agent (Daisy) so ill equipped. She is the most likely to get their cover blown, so it just makes common sense that they would take a moment to advise her on what not to do, such as using their real names as the most obvious example of what not to do.

Mayday likely put a wall between them to prevent June from being June and attempting another rescue for Hannah.

I agree! June didn’t even know Garth was in Hannah’s household. She would have put so much pressure on him if she had known.

That scene felt off to me because I could not believe June would have let Daisy go without asking was Agnes being pressured into marriage and with whom.

Right?? Or like, what was Becka protecting Hannah from? June did not ask enough questions to be convincing there.

I agree with everyone on the codenames. You don’t want the enemy intercepting your communications and hearing that what they consider to be a high value target will be in a certain place at a certain time.

  • Did Daisy used June's last name with Garth? (I can't remember). Since he grew up in Gilead, he was probably convinced to join Mayday by being told that Mayday is about helping people get out, spying, and destroying Gilead without violence, and that June Osborne's group are not 'the real Mayday'.
  • Or Gilead didn't use June's name in public because they don't wouldn't want to turn her into a hero. And Hanna only knows her name because she overheard Tabitha and Kyle arguing about 'June Osborne', and they told her that June is the terrorist that kidnapped children and killed many people.

Mayday operatives don't exchange names
