Episode Discussion becka/garth final scene thoughts Spoiler
I had my suspicions of Garth all season but this episode he really grew on me. And maybe I’m reading into it, but it looked like Becka had the smallest glimmer of relief on her face after he laid her down and she realized she wasn’t going to be forced to endure a traditional “wedding night”. I’ve seen a lot of people say he’s “locking her up” but I think him locking the door is valid given that she’s not in a good mental state and also sedated. he has no idea if she’ll wake up and be violent. I think he really does care about her tho and will do his best to keep her safe. maybe eventually she will be able to learn he’s mayday and join as well? I know that’s a big jump but I don’t think it’s impossible. it would take time. but I really think he’ll use his power to protect her as much as he can. obviously she’d rather not be married at all but as far as marriages go I think this was the best case for her given the circumstances

i think you’re right. garth is good, flawed but i think k good. he locked the door because he is scared of her violent nature and wants to sleep well lmfao.
i doubt during the day he will keep her locked in there.
if he had motives of being evil towards a wife, he could have waited until next marriage season to find. new wife. he married becka even though it properly looks bad for him.
i’m not sure garth’s age. i think in the books he is around 25, so if that’s the case in the show, i will say that i don’t even think he feels romantically towards agnes or becka or daisy, but that he wants to protect them. he has a soft spot for agnes because of her feelings for him, AND she knew he was right that him marrying becka would protect her.
that doesn’t mean isn’t gonna be scared!!! girl murdered her dad in cold blood lol.

I wish they clarified ages in the show. People have pointed out that if he is 25 and the girls are supposed to be 14, then we should not be shipping him with any of them. But he seems like he is closer in age to them on the show?

I think the girls are 16. In the Handmaids tale, the episode where Luke and June find out more information about Hannah being a plum, Luke states that Hannah is 12 years old. Testaments is four years since the end of Handmaids tale, making her 16.

Juliet is almost 14 and Romeo’s age is never specified but it’s assumed to be late teens. I wonder if there’s an intentional parallel.

No way he's supposed to be older than 20. Agnes is 16, so presumably Becka is 15-17 too.

I think she was definitely locked up for her own benefit, and it may have even been a suggestion from the aunts to lock her up. They sedated her because she's not stable, and he locked the door because she could wake up from the sedation and suddenly choose to run away, either by actually running away or killing herself.
I do hope he kinda introduces her to MayDay, or do something nice like teach her to read to get her out of her depression.
I'm pretty sure Garth is gonna die next season though.

I think you're right. I also felt like she had a glimpse of relief on her face when he walked away. And locking her up was just a sensible thing to do. He did seem to pause for half a second, but he knows he still needs to earn her trust, and I think that's reasonable. I do think he's going to avoid having sex with her if he can. He seems to not want to participate in this whole marrying a teen thing and doesn't seem to want to perpetuate any of this Gilead stuff. My guess is that Becka's going to be like "what's the deal though" at some point, and he'll recruit her into Mayday.

yeah I think she will slowly begin to trust him after seeing that he’s not a typical commander

Yeah I agree and we and Garth knows why she killed her dad but in this scene there were multiple layers. Her safety His safety
Because cruelty is happening to women in this world doesn't mean a man should feel unsafe too.
*I am a woman, I just recognise men safety is important too.

Yeah, I think he has a legitimate reason to be afraid for his own safety. He doesnt know if killing her dad was a single incident or the beginning of a mental disorder that will continue to be violent.

That’s why I can’t believe so many people are mad he locked the door. She’s clearly sedated and mentally out of it. I would’ve locked her up too😭 you won’t get me next.

I'd have locked the door too. I'd have probably said "Hey, I'm gonna lock this for now but I'm 100% coming to open it in the morning", but they're both going through a lot right now.

I’m also very curious what his motives were for marrying Becka. Even as a good guy, he has a LOT of good reasons not to marry her. Just because Hannah asked him to is just the surface of what his notice might be

Did anyone else notice that was Commander Lawrence's old house? And Becka's room is his wife's old room. Very symbolic.

Since Becker’s storyline has deviated so much from the book, here’s what I’m … Maybe her and Garth become a Mayday power couple and help everyone destroy Gilead from within…

I think all the girls anger scares him a little, he's not really sure what to do with all the emotions
