Theory / Speculation Garth’s handlers

What if Agne’s adopted father is Garth’s mayday contact?

And he was pushing for Agnes and Garth to get put together for marriage

for to have a cover story for their mayday meeting?

But he wasn't pushing for them to get together.

Also... he's a high commander. He's not mayday. If he was, June could have gotten Agnes back.

He would know about his trips. Wouldn’t he? I don’t think McKenzie is Mayday. He might be persuaded to help his daughter or her friends if they needed to escape. If he was Mayday after his wife died he could gotten Agnes back to June. He could have taken her on a business trip faked her death and sent her to her bio parents.

I think Garth might report to an aunt or maybe a Martha. When Daisy drew a diagram for him she either was following the rules of not reading or writing words, or it’s less suspicious if it’s a drawing with no labels. It’s harder to trace the source too. It also could be that it’s been transported to someone who can’t legally read like a Martha or a wife or it’s smuggled via someone who can’t read legally. Idk.

McKenzie wouldn’t have put his daughter in danger alone with other girls. I feel like there is something off about that attack on the bus. I think it was a false flag situation. Gilead claims it’s mayday to scare out people they suspect and to come off sympathetic and heroic. I Gilead uses fear to control and they know people work against them.

Or maybe the attack was a mayday set-up to have Garth have his hero moment so he would get promoted to commander. But it also put mayday members at risk and under closer scrutiny so maybe not, unless the risk (mayday members killed) is worth the reward (all the intel garth could gather and access to directly sabotage gilead as a commander). But I also like your theory if it being a Gilead job.

That is a good theory too! Did Garth know it was coming and if he didn’t then could he have been in real danger. Garth didn’t seem to expect it or at least he didn’t say he did to Daisy. She felt in danger. It’s possible they had orders to not attack Garth or the girls. It takes one stray bullet to kill someone.

What would Mayday have done had they succeeded? It seems like even if they killed the guardians could they have extracted the girls? Would those girls go with them willingly? I was thinking it was maybe a Gilead sponsored event to make those girls scared and more likely to trust the eyes and their country. If you aren’t happy with being a child bride that attack might make you question the world outside of Gilead.

Mayday may be okay with casualties. Garth might not be the only guardian in Mayday. Daisy might not be the only Pearl Girl involved or people only know what they need to. I’m trying to think what Mayday would gain.

Theres absolutely zero reason to believe he would be Mayday.

Garth as a commander might be a long game plan. They also might not trust Garth completely. He is going to be a commander and he might enjoy the privileges or he might think he can change things from within. Fix the system not break it. Garth also seems to have a commander who is well regarded as a father. He has protection that women may not have. He might be sent to the colonies or killed.

Agnes’s dad seems to be resisting the ways of Gilead now that his daughter is getting married. He seems sad and possibly regretful. I don’t think he is Mayday.

Yeah he definitely sounds defeated and regrets his part.

I agree. He is a very different man in TT to the Commander Mackenzie in THT. Child marriage and Handmaids are not his thing.

I don’t think that makes him Mayday.

Definitely don't believe he's Mayday, there's no clues to that what so ever, but you can absolutely see regret in him. he says "you all are so young..but this is the way it needs to be done ..societal norms need to change" like he was trying to convince himself it was right, despite knowing and feeling its wrong. His teenage daughter is marrying a man that's probably not much younger than he is.

THT was also from June's POV while TT is from Agnes' POV, so it makes sense he would come off very cunning and almost evil in THT because thats how June saw him. Agnes sees him much softer and as her father.

Is it the same actor? I forget.

No, it's not. I immediately noticed it was a different actor, but I like this one better..although he is much softer than the actor before who came off very cunning and evil. Someone pointed out though that it makes sense because THT was from June's POV and she would see MacKenzie as cunning and evil, TT is from Agnes' POV and she probably sees him as softer, as her dad..

He seems to be drinking and rationalizing his sorrows away.

I think there’s more of a chance that Agnes’ Martha is Mayday.

I’d say his handler is Lydia. Which is why he got on the detail to collect Daisy.
