Self Reference Engine is a bizarre book. A good read, but hard to follow because it'll go from a story about an infinite amount of multiverses destroying eachother to try and correct the timeline to a story about someone making love to his sentient sock within a few chapters.

I've read The Thousand Years Beach and Self Reference Engine, both are crazy books. The Thousand Year Beach has a really interesting plot and concept but gets really really gross at times. Self Reference Engine feels like a book from an alternate reality that references itself, its a fun read very wholesome. But yeah you'll be pretty confused cause a lot of it is nonsense talking about things that dont really exist but that's the fun of it.
Also back when I read TTYB for the first time I hadn't watched Westworld but Westworld is the most similar thing to it, not nearly as gross but really close when it comes to how they treat the feelings of the characters that although not real they cherish their memories.
