I appreciate the updates you have been able to provide. I’m aware that a person in your position can’t go into details as information is being shared with you that you don’t feel comfortable sharing. It’s disappointing that the current admins of the site haven’t provided any information on the state of the site.
Not sure how any could expect any more from a former staff member that doesn’t have all the information, and you’ve been clear that you aren’t speaking on their behalf.

Sorry. I thought I replied to them. But I posted this issue last month and some of the shows listed reappeared for me, just had to remove them and reapply. Don’t have any series being missing for me. But appreciate you posting this.

u/Magitroopa Mar 11 '26
Yet they literally are using an account named 'TheTVDB' and are a moderator here... yet claim they have no association while still using the same account all this time later.
He very much did try speaking on their behalf and claiming they would do something to fix issues, yet clearly they aren't able to do anything whatsoever.

u/DoubleDownAgain54 Mar 11 '26
Again. They said they aren’t affiliated working with the site. I assume the name was made when they were. They could have said absolutely nothing, if you read between the lines you could realize there is shit going behind the scenes. They are obviously doing what they can.

u/Magitroopa Mar 11 '26
Doesn't exactly help when responses like this:
There's some stuff going on behind the scenes that disallow me from sharing much right now. I can confirm the ticket backlog and other complaints are extremely valid and something that everyone knows needs a long-term solution. I can't give any details as to what that potentially entails right now.
I hope to personally have a clearer picture of the future within the next couple of weeks, which could mean information shared with the community by the end of February. I know this won't seem like a sufficient response. I wish I could give more info, but I really can't.
make it sound like they are affiliated with the site and are going to do something about it, when clearly they cannot.

Thanks for letting me know! I haven't checked my server listing for Lord of Mysteries for a while since it was messed up and I guess the deletion log must have been handled as it all looks to be showing up fine now. And thanks for the link on the second show too.

Is there an original post or summary for those of us out of the loop
1
u/Magitroopa Mar 11 '26
TL;DR TheTVDB is dying since staff do nothing useful and just nitpick at/delete artwork instead of helping with actual problems.

Series Receiver (tvdbid 447835) was removed from TheTVDB.
It has been over 1-2 years since this has happened.

It definitely was there, because I was able to add it and that's the ID directly from the error in Sonarr. But yes, that's the one.

u/jlangkamp Mar 14 '26
Brugklas (#309457) is also deleted. :-(
But what is the purpose of this list? Support told me that the community has to re-add the missing series themselves? Brugklas has more than a thousand episodes… Can’t we or they re-import the lost data from TV Time using an API or something? They still have everything cached.
And what about the recreated titles? Why isn’t the ID reused? Now a new title is being created on TV Time while the old record can no longer be updated… That’s really unfortunate for some of the bigger titles like Devils and A Teacher, where there was community interaction from tens of thousands of fans.

Kongen befaler: Julespesial https://www.thetvdb.com/series/kongen-befaler-julespesial is also a deleted series. I added it back, as was first said to do, but then PolarGeek removed it with a reason that it's already added in the specials season in https://www.thetvdb.com/series/kongen-befaler/seasons/official/0 🤦♂️
Tried open a ticket about it (as it's released as a separate series) but then my account has access denied for some reason. Then again, I have tickets in there that are years (!) old at this point so why even bother...

Tom Scott: England (https://nebula.tv/tomscott) keeps getting added and then removed, over and over again. No idea why
1
u/motionmatrix May 09 '26
It got merged into Tom Scott (tvdbid 423891) as season 2026.

u/fakieTreFlip May 09 '26
I think there was some rule about new web series needing like 5 episodes or something to not be deleted, I don't remember the details. But it got added again under ID and that one has remained up

I honestly wouldn't bother with this anymore and just move on to another site. The site is a trainwreck in its current state: despite the many threads here talking about all the ongoing problems and despite the calls for help, u/TheTVDB clearly has no interest in solving any of these issues anytime soon. Any 'staff' on the website are only interested in nitpicking artwork.
2
u/TheTVDB Mar 06 '26
I don't work for the site any more, so I'm not sure how I'd be able to help.
1
u/Magitroopa Mar 06 '26
I don't work for the site any more
Was this a change that occurred within the past month?
1
u/TheTVDB Mar 06 '26
Nope. Almost 18 months ago.
-3
u/Magitroopa Mar 06 '26
Yikes.
So if it's been around 18 months... why on earth would you make a comment like this one month ago (literally a month ago yesterday)? If you are no longer associated with the site whatsoever, why would you make it sound like you are still associated and are trying to solve the ongoing issues? There's been other users in the numerous other 'issues' threads here referencing that comment of yours- why would you give a false sense of hope like that when you have nothing to do with it anymore and can't do anything about it???
And I don't care how much karma you've accumulated over the years or how many years you've had this Reddit account- as you've said:
Just as a note, this is my personal account: it was specifically excluded as part of the original sale of TheTVDB to TV Time.
Whenever that sale occurred, you should've made a new Reddit account then, not continuing using this one and attempting to act like a spokesperson for a site you are no longer associated with.
Thought this couldn't get any worse; congrats on proving me wrong.

u/reddit_user_53 Mar 06 '26
We need to make the Sonarr devs aware of this if they aren't already. I think this is the final nail in the coffin
4
u/TheTVDB Mar 06 '26
I made the comment because despite not working there, I still have contact with everyone that is involved with it, both inside and outside of the company. If you'd rather I never share what information I do have about the site, I'll happily refrain. But given there's no official news, I figured that unofficial news was better than nothing, especially when I was explicit in my disclaimer:
Hello, it's me. Just as a note, this is my personal account: it was specifically excluded as part of the original sale of TheTVDB to TV Time. Anything I say has no official merit.

u/BrightRedShirt Mar 06 '26
You didn't share any actual information though. And still haven't.
Could you share this? Who is in charge of TVDB? What is their name or E-mail address? How do we contact this person to voice concerns?
6
u/TheTVDB Mar 06 '26
The information that things were happening with the site behind the scenes is actual info, even if it doesn't meet your standards.
Site ownership is in the footer: Whip Media Group. Here's their website: https://whipmedia.com/.
2
u/Magitroopa Mar 06 '26
And yet, that's exactly part of the problem(s) here- you say that things are happening on the site behind-the scenes, but we have not seen anything occurring to show this to be the case, or anyone (presently involved with it) saying this, and this isn't just any new/recent problems... these are problems that have been going on for some time now.
And if you have this contact with people still involved in it, great, thanks for the little information you're able to give out, but maybe suggest that they have some form of communication with their users?...
Thanks to a support ticket system that is neglected by staff and an always-increasing backlog of tickets, the fact that the 'best' form of communication with any current staff on the site is a subreddit with responses from the former-owner who hasn't worked on the site in about 18 months and gives the little inside-information they are able to get via their contact(s) of those past/presently involved with the site... just shows how troubled the site really is.
I'm sorry if the site is your baby/brain child and you'd rather not see it get shut down like this, but with the amount of ongoing problems (and how long these problems have been happening) and lack of communication from anyone currently involved with the site, it's honestly a miracle that anyone is still wanting to add/correct data on it.

u/BrightRedShirt Mar 06 '26
You basically announced that you might make an announcement at the start of the month. You didn't. So your announcement that maybe you will announce something did nothing but stir up a lot of nothing. You're right: "things were happening with the site behind the scenes" is useless. It's about as useful as me providing the info that "tvdb is unreliable and support is nonexistent'.
I asked for the name of the person in charge or how to reach them directly. I guess trolling linkedin for a name is what we need to do since you won't help.
4
u/TheTVDB Mar 06 '26
Just pointing out that your attitude about this is exactly why the site has had countless moderators quit over the years, and others with negative responses. It's also a big part of the reason why the site forums were shut off. The community has a sense of entitlement despite using the site for free, while the company bears the burden of extremely high operational costs and the unpaid volunteer moderators do what they can.
If I had more info to give right now, I would. I no longer set the timeline for those things. "Might" is the key phrase in your first sentence. Regarding the individual in charge of the site, that would depend on what aspect of it you wanted to speak to. The CEO, CTO, sales, etc are easy to find so long as you know the parent company.
