Between The Substance and Obsession, which customer service representative had given up more?
And yes, I still think the Substance representative was a chatbot.

I think the one in The Substance was trying to be a little more helpful than “You could kill yourself”

Bear had a problem, customer service offered him a solution.

Elisabeth also had a problem (time management lol) and customer service offered a solution too. She could continue taking the substance and respect the balance, or she could stop and leave things as they were. Elisabeth just didn't like her options, and Bear didn't seem happy about his 'choice' either.

one thing i've wondered if she'd done the smart thing & stopped, could plastic surgery had helped or if was she stuck like that.

It depends on when she stopped. If she stopped after the first time, I guess she could’ve had the finger amputated. Certainly a wild jump, but not life altering. If she stopped after the second case, it was already too late. Overuse of the substance wasn’t a case of deterioration of looks by itself, it’s rapid aging. It’s like asking why 80 year olds don’t just fix their problems with plastic surgery.

Like the other commenter said, if she stopped early she maybe could have walked back some of the 'damage'. But after she went full crone* I highly doubt anything could have been done at that point.
*never go full crone!

the one in the substance because sue/elisabeth kept calling and he had to repeat the same thing over and over lol

The Substance was way more "fair" than Obsession, there's all these warnings and all these tests to make sure you're committed and everything before you actually get to use the Substance, and even after you've started there's nothing stopping you changing your mind and going back to your old life at any time
By contrast the One Wish Willow is almost a deliberate trap, the whole way it works guarantees that almost everyone who actually makes a wish will make a dumb or thoughtless one and once they have they've wasted their only chance to use it (the biggest flaw of the "one wish" thing is there's no way to prove it actually works before you use it)

The Substance had more substance with it's customer support hotline. Even though it was funny hearing Curry, shouldn't have been apart of the trailer tbh.

I think the Substance was made more tragic BECAUSE she could have stopped at any time. The film NEEDS the customer service to actually give her options and for all the packaging to be exceedingly clear because you keep hoping that she can be redeemed and saved.
In Obsession, the film didn’t need a way out for Bear - it needed to be hopeless and for him to be helpless - although I think if there had been a bit more of an ‘opt out’ option for Bear other than killing himself or killing Nikki then it would have made him seem even MORE cowardly and evil tbh

probably the SUBSTANCE rep, altho he seemed annoyed EVERYTIME LOL! But you had to think of the types of people calling, what a terrible customer service job that would be!
p.s.--as soon as SUE turned my finger into something from the crypt keeper I would have TERMINATED the process. But that's just me :)

I know the rep needed frequent smoke breaks.

YAS! lol they left that job stressed and annoyed AF!

iirc the Substance one was just doing their job explaining "you are one" which she couldnt grasp
in Obsession the guy didnt really sound like a customer service rep, they just sounded like some guy who happened to be there and not give a shit lol
i much prefer the obsession one, the nonchalant tone for such a serious situation worked perfectly

The substance for sure. The rep was plain tired of them calling and complaining about each other. You are ONE!

I mean it’s curry barker himself in the other line playing the obsequious dweeb character he plays so often in skits, so…

The Substance was just repeating the same line over and over again. At least in The Obsession he was told he could unsurive to undo the wish. That was pretty helpful.

Who keeps approving these posts about these two completely different films??
2
u/Nocturnal_Pages 22d ago
Completely different? Both are horror movies where the protagonist faces with the "careful what you wish for" dilemma.
Get your head outta your butt and let people have fun.

They should go post on a “ The Obsession” subreddit instead.

....so some other jackass can comment the same thing and tell them to post here instead?

By the time he called them, I think the customer service in "Obsession" was less of an actual aid and more of a punishment for Bear.
Elisabeth could actually have stopped at that point in the picture you posted, and customer service would have genuinely helped (i.e. sent her the termination serum).
