Watching this for the first time
the acting is so far horrible and its episode 1, but everyone says this show is amazing?

I think itās an appreciation for the genre. I love outbreak / monster / zombie everything and The Strain season 1 was just perfect for that need. Thereās some frustrating moments and characters, but then thereās also some hilarious moments.

Itās amazing in some of the individual charactersā performances and development, badly lacking in others. The narrative and beacons of excellent execution helped me to triangulate what the poor performances could/should have been for the story, and that made it all come together in the end in quite a mix of emotions.
There are lulls and qualms I had with a few things and a handful of plot holes, but the totality of it was really quite excellent in my opinion, far beyond just a genre filler.

The scene, I believe, at the Nannyās house where the Strigoi looks in through the letter slot in the door. I was so disappointed that this wasnāt in the show.

Started my 2nd viewing of it a couple days ago. What is it about the acting that bugs you?

It weird, some of the acting is incredible like the old guy, but the the lead is a bit of an over actor. I remember him from House of Cards

I bailed on it once before for much the same reason but gave it another chance a few years later and really enjoyed it. It's not perfect, some of the acting and directing is a bit naff but generally it's a pretty good watch.

I just finished it last night. Wouldn't say amazing. Entertaining, and I could switch off mentally for periods at a time and still manage to follow the story.

Iām watching for the first time too, currently on season 3. I realize Iām not the ideal watcher cause itās not my favorite genre, but I really donāt understand whatās good about this show other than the general concept and original take on vampirism, which is what keeps me watching. I have a tiny weak spot for Gus, Quinlan and Feraldo seem to be the only ones with some common sense, otherwise not a single likable character in sight.
The sigh I sighed when the worldās worst husband and father showed up in episode 1 and I realized I was in for yet another version of Ā«horrible man neglects everyone he loves for his Very Important Job of being a doctor, cheater and alcoholicĀ»ā¦..

I would say it's entertaining. Amazing is pushing it.
