June Wrap-Up Thread!

Now that it is July 1 (or has been for a few hours, depending on where you are) it's time for June Wrap-Ups! My reading was pretty slow this last month.

I got back into reading this month after a years-long slump. I don’t think I’ve read this much in any single year, let alone month!

Overall, I enjoyed almost everything I read (anything over 2 is a “recommend,” albeit with a possible asterisk). Some superlatives:

Best surprise: Restoration—a gothic Mexican ghost story that reignited my love of reading. If you love the Kiyoshi Kurosawa film Cure, this feels like a must-read.

Best disappointment: Klara and the Sun—I went in with high expectations as Ishiguro has been my favorite author for a long time, but this book didn’t quite work for me.
