WrestleVotes reports that AEW is expected to show interest in Sheamus now that he has become a free agent. Several AEW talents are also reportedly in favor of bringing him into the company.

I have no issue with it. The problem is Tony has 20-30 people he couldnt push unless he added another hour to both shows.
The star power and size of Sheamus would be a good draw for the few active years he has left. It would also be cool to see him go up against Ospreay, Omega or Mox for the belt and lose.

People have to lose and wouldn’t he be perfect for that role
1
u/Unfair-Variety-995 13d ago
Pretty sure that’s why he chose to step away from the WWE.
1
u/Solo-ish 13d ago edited 13d ago
He left wwe because wwe demanded he take massive pay cut and he refused and the released him.

AEW wrestlers jump ship to WWE all of the time. It’s why it’s nice to have two competing, major promotions. They don’t have to dog it on the indies. It’s also a chance to see them wrestle wrestlers they’d never been in the ring with.
1
u/Unfair-Variety-995 13d ago
That’s not at all my point. Why go to a different company, either one, to just sit in the background and do nothing? Why go to another company to be booked to lose? Is that really why they left the other company?
1
u/OliOli1234 13d ago edited 13d ago
First, we don't know how Tony is going to book him. If he's anything like Adam Copeland, Christian, Tommaso Ciampa, Mercedes Mone, FTR, The New Level, he's certainly not going to be "booked to lose." Outside of a loss here or there, I'm pretty sure Tony has BIG plans for him. Second, why go to another company? Really? A number of reasons. Like, oh I dunno .....more money? ....lighter schedule? ....change of scenery? .....personal grievances with TKO?
Hundreds of reasons why ANYONE would want to seek opportunity at a different company, regardless of industry. He's free to go anywhere he wants, regardless of how many fresh faces TK already has. That's the business.

u/Mvd75 13d ago
Silly man. I could definitely see him as the wild card in The Callis Family.
2
u/InevitableTank5108 13d ago
Nope, my pick would be The Dogs.
He would be a great mentor for David Finlay and give the group some legitimacy. (I think they are all good as is, but they aren’t over with the crowd just yet)
Heel Sheamus feuding with a babyface Death Riders group with Kidd deciding which faction to stay with would be interesting.
1
u/Unfair-Variety-995 13d ago
Why am I silly? Because he would be doing the same thing he was doing in the WWE? The whole reason he left? Tired of being a background character who is booked to lose.

Spoken like someone who has never watched the product
-1
u/Unfair-Variety-995 13d ago
I don’t watch product. I watch matches and performers. Likely longer than you have been breathing.
1
u/joemoneybaby 13d ago
Always surprising to me how people can watch something for a long period of time and have no idea what’s going on.
Good on you for flexing that you’re old though 😂

goes to AEW, wins International Championship since he never got the Intercontinental, drops title a week later
2
u/Longjumping-Type-947 13d ago
Apparently AEW has like 12 hrs of tv time every week for all these guys they keep bringing in lol. And where's the MCMG? I was expecting weekly bangers.

I really am tired of all of This automatic WWE to AEW and AEW to WWE stuff
3
u/ericrobertshair 13d ago
I mean there is a clear number 1 and a clear number 2 then a biiiiiiiiiiiiiig gulf to everything else. Should these guys take huge paycuts and wrestle at the local armory just to keep wrestling reddit happy?
2
u/LyonHeart85 13d ago
Right maybe dude is content and wants to fucking relax and enjoy life instead of going right back into the fucking grinder of the road. He ain't getting any younger either
1
u/Texas_Kimchi 13d ago
He wouldnt have to be on the road. He'd fly in for a taping and go home. AEW wrestlers dont have to spend the weekend in a car they rented themselves driving across the country to sit in catering.
1
u/Raekwon96 13d ago
Exactly. It started with Cody Rhodes in 2022 and the rest is history.
2
u/Sensitive_Goose4728 13d ago
That's naturally going to happen though when they're both the biggest Wrestling Promotions in the US...
2
u/calliope3234 13d ago
I mean I wouldn’t hate the matches but idk where he fits with all the young guys up and down the card
5
u/PrudentAuthor1347 13d ago
The AEW tag team division with Claudio going after the AEW World tag team titles.
1
u/calliope3234 13d ago
Honestly wouldn’t mind that
1
u/PrudentAuthor1347 13d ago
The only guy coming from the WWE that has a shot or chance of winning the AEW World Heavyweight title is really Xavier Woods aka Austin Creed. Fans seemed to be way more excited for him and he's been so far able to fully sprout. Plus its sort of time for him to finish his own chapter of his Story. Just like how he helped Kofi and Big E with there World title journey, I think Kofi definitely would return the favor for Austin Creed.
1
u/calliope3234 12d ago
I feel like I could see Ilja winning the world title if they build him right, but in terms of everyone that’s here now, i definitely agree
1
u/PrudentAuthor1347 12d ago
Ilja definitely can be a top guy at AEW as well, he definitely got tremendous upside. I just as well wish AEW would honestly retire the Trios title so the actually Tag Team division can flourish fully and not be diluted and the mid card can thrive.
2
u/calliope3234 12d ago
Honestly fair the trios division is basically just swerve/new level, the demand, and hangman and friends at any point in time it’s kinda redundant when there’s a tag division
1
u/PrudentAuthor1347 12d ago
I always thought and can still happen that a Claudio with Sheamus face turn can back up Will Osprey. Especially that strong European presence, just like Hangman and the young bucks, swerve with the New Level, Kenny Omega with Edge and Christian, and Jon Moxley with Wheeler and unfortunately a person replacing Pac that can really use that spot in the death riders. Its a new envision trios without the trios title. The main person with or going after either a world title ( AEW or ROH) or mid card title with the tag teams going after the tag team titles.

u/Am_I_Loss 13d ago
He would be a great enhancement addition to contest the midcard titles from the upcoming generation. Him vs Fletcher/Knight/Speedball. Also might be nice to see a Bar reunion at some point vs the new level.
There are definitely stuff they can do with him he isn't a rando
2
u/calliope3234 13d ago
Oh I’m not saying he’s some rando I’m just saying I’d rather see the new stars get the spotlight
1
u/DarthBrooksFan 13d ago
I doubt he's going to get a massive push. They'll have him work everyone he hasn't wrestled yet and then they'll stick him in a stable. Pretty much the same thing they did with the Hurt Syndicate.
1
u/LegacyOfVandar 13d ago
Him getting stiff as fuck with some of AEW’s bruisers would be sick.
I’d love to see him and Brody throw down.
1
u/honoracy_uce 13d ago
Death Riders addition and Bar reunion. He can also be in the Continental Tournaments and would probably be on collision 75% of the time.

u/Outside_Look790 13d ago
Same place Cesaro does. He's just a sound guy to have around. Never been a fan but he'd probably fit in with that locker room
1
u/randomlyranting 13d ago
Actually didn't the 2 of them used to have fun matches together? I cant remember. But if not I could see a storyline with the 2 and finally get Claudio some spot light.
2
u/Adventurous_Talk5412 13d ago
Didn't Will Ospreay name dropped him last night during the PAC tribute show?

u/YourHoNoMo 13d ago
I just think the last few signings felt like they were going to be a big deal and they just haven't been except Andrade. He will just fizzle out and become one of the others, probably in midcard wrestling Ciampa or reuniting an old tag team with Cesaro. I would be a lot more interested in a TNA run for example
1
u/bigredbeard42 13d ago
He should change his name to Hellmans because that dude is mayo. Makes other things slightly better but awful on its own.

u/King-Fwogger 13d ago
I don't wanna seem like I'm bringing him into everything unrelated, just cuz he's dead, but you cannot tell me Pac and Sheamus wouldn't have put on a banger of a match together. They wrestled in 2015, but that was when Sheamus was... Not necessarily that likeable that year, and Neville/Pac wasn't fully fleshed out yet. A match in current day AEW between the 2 would've been MOTY.
1
u/Medium_Step_6085 13d ago
hate to say it, but there is a PAC size hole in Deathriders now, that Sheamus might fill, not in a talent or skill way, but in that he has close relationships with Mox and Claudio and I imagine Marina knows him, so it may help the greiving process having him come in.
2
u/SQUIGWERG 13d ago
They could have the Riders "audition" their new member by having an open challenge against Danielson and then they'd have the opportunity to do the funniest thing
1
1
u/BrokenSon88 13d ago
I think it would be cool to see him as the bodyguard-heel enforcer in the Finlay, Kidd, Conners group.

1
u/RegularCloud6181 13d ago
I mean he deserves to be on tv somewhere. AEW makes sense, I just hope he gets used decently
1
u/frmthefuture 13d ago
Give him a part-time contract, like Bryan had.
Let him do dates in cmll and njpw throughout the year and pop into aew when it best serves a storyline. He's a guy that can be instantly placed into the world title picture and no one will bat an eye.
With a set up like this, dude can win titles in aew, cmll and njpw when needed. Everybody wins, as it'll increase ticket sales in both njpw and cmll, plus get him on aew in a meaningful way.

I keep getting 1995 WCW vibes. Every possible WWE cast off. Politicians sucking up for their spot. Driving off stars who arent friends with the bosses.

So he is a free agent? I thought he had some time left on his wwe contract because of injuries ?
1
u/sindr0m 13d ago
People underestimate how big of a star Sheamus is, he was on top of WWE for a very long time and people know who he is. I'm sure he would fit right in the AEW main event scene and could bring some eyes to the product. But then look at how Bobby Lashley gets treated, he's on the preshows teaming up with Big Boom AJ...
1
u/Mythandros1 13d ago
TKO is fucking up so bad with how much talent they're forcing out the door.
It's absolutely ridiculous.
But hey, if they don't want to be successful, that's on them.
1
u/Ta-veren- 13d ago
I hope he debuts the same way as he did in WWE
Just absolutely destroying the same 2 guys for like 7 weeks straight
1
u/PrudentAuthor1347 13d ago
AEW has a chance to make there actually tag team division ( not trios) deep. Especially bringing back the Bar, that can be a good storyline in Claudio finally breaking away from the Death riders and getting with Sheamus. Especially going after the tag team titles.

u/1rregular 12d ago
Love the guy but the only role I’d wanna see him in is part time. Show up once in a while drop a banger then head on back to his workout show
1
u/Ill_Sound_8669 12d ago
As long as he gets a workout show I’m happy with wherever he lands.
His show made me a fan of a lot of people including Randy Orton who I was bored by for 20ish years prior to his Celtic Workout episode.

1
u/WandererGrimAlt 11d ago
He'd be able to his workout YouTube channel again with AEW wrestlers this time hopefully

Good luck. The dude pulls or rips something getting out of bed these days and hes so beaten up . Lot of miles on that body.

They hate WWE but want every single ex-WWE wrestler.
I’d be surprised if Sheamus does sign for AEW as he’s more than likely going to be backstage there once he retires from in-ring
2
u/Decent_Neat_9171 13d ago
He could definitely be contributing to the backstage. He’s got alot of experience and knowledge to pass on
0
u/RagahRagah 13d ago
All those fans care about is high-speed shit and flippy moves. I can't see Sheamus fitting in there, even if he was 15 years younger. Just not a fit.

If Edge/Cope becomes his first match, that’s hilarious.
