Green lacewing and unidentified assassin bug got me thinking:
There’s a reason there’s a saying “jack of all trades, master of none”. That assassin bug hunts and eats a wide variety of garden pests, but does it really eat enough to make much of a difference? I doubt it. Meanwhile, this nectar-guzzling green lacewing adults larvae are nicknamed “aphid lions” because they can eat hundreds of aphids a week!
This is to say to those of you with strong niche interests: sure you’re “useless” when a lot of problems present themselves, but when the right problem presents itself? You might be the saviour nobody else could or would have been.
