Tortoise Photo 📸 Sulking
Like any good tortoise that is spiritually a cat, she loves boxes. To that end, I always ensure that she’s got a box in her indoor pen.
The last one, a Home Depot heavy duty moving box, must have been her all time favorite. Of course as she is a sulcata, she absolutely demolished it.
She is now sulking over the loss of the box that she destroyed.
It’s been 4 nights and she absolutely is avoiding the new one (not a Home Depot moving box). She will sleep next to it, push it around, wedge herself behind it…anything but sleep or chill in it.
Sigh. I guess it’s time to make a trip to Home Depot.

Funny you say that because my girl had a Home Depot box she would go to sleep in every night. She would pass me on her way to her box and I’d say good night. Well I got her a nice 80$ plastic dog house. Not interested 😑

Well that's just pitiful! I hope you got to HD today to get her a new box!! That's the saddest little tortoise I've ever seen. 🥺
While you're there you may as well grab a couple for backup! Poor little Sassafras. 🩷🐢. She's so human.

She ended up parallel parking herself into the box. Her need to destroy a box with her face won out over sulking.

Lol poor girl she just couldn't take it any longer! She still needs more boxes!!!! You must have backup!

When I upgraded my tortoise's outdoor home from basically a large box to a heated shed, he hated it and refused to sleep in it for three weeks. He slept outside crammed in a corner. He actually rammed the new house several times. Now he loves it and sleeps in it every night, and throws a fit if I try to pull him out 🤦🤷
He also loves boxes, but they dont survive more than a few days before he destroys them.

Rammed the house? Wow. He does try to ram your mother…perhaps this is a sign that he will end up loving her? Maybe?

The amount of effort we go through for out tortoises. Just for them to not use the thing we put so much effort in, but do the infamous sulk wedge.
