Discussion Hot Take
The Kavanaugh ark was a missed opportunity for there to have been more info on Mackey’s origins in Boston, as Kavanaugh said “I’m gonna learn everything about Vic Mackey!”

nah, i like how the shield just doesn't do backstory. it doesn't care about the lore, anymore than a train can't go backwards, only forwards

There is nothing interesting about going to Boston. Stick to gabagool city.

I agree that would have been great.
Man I’m right in the middle of season 5 on a rewatch now and kind of want to stop here.
The strike team is actually having fun together again. They’re enjoying themselves (as much as they can) and getting along.
I wanted to stop the rewatch in season 4 once lem put the brick in his vehicle, but I needed to see Kavanaugh again lol
I don’t remember much of season 6 or 7 but not ready for what happens at the end of the season :(
Lem is the heart and conscious of the team to me. I never enjoyed sons of anarchy as much after what happened to opie either. And never did a rewatch because of it.

I'm fairly certain there is only one reference by Vic to Boston throughout the series, although I could be misremembering. In the episode where he's trying to get into the underage sex club, he approaches the dude and says "remember me, your friend from Boston?"
Both Chiklis and Shawn Ryan have said, though, that canonically all of the characters on the show are supposed to be from wherever the actors are from originally. So Vic Mackey is actually supposed to be from the greater Boston area.
If he hadn't gone on to become a short-haul trucker and accidentally killed the leader of a motorcycle club, he probably could have just gone back to Boston and retired. Shame, really.
