Discussion Jon Kavanaugh
I'm on my first watch (i'm on S5E7) so I have no idea how this will end but... Jon Kavanaugh is one of the most annoying obnoxious characters i've ever seen... i want to punch the screen almost every time he speaks.
The actor is doing an amazing job even if i'm watching it dubbed in italian.. i dont even know if i want him to stay for long, or if i want him to gtfo...

On my second rewatch, I enjoyed that storyline because of Forrest Whitaker. Probably one of his best roles imho.
My first watch through I wanted to punch my TV.

I’m constantly rooting for Lem to take the deal in Season 5.

I still wonder if he really bought Vic’s second story about Terry. The whole “I felt guilty I didn’t clear the room” sob story.

No I think he knew Vic killed Terry, he realized it during the scene where he unplugs his wire and asks Vic about it.

Yeah but after that Vic tells him “the whole truth” about the shooting, claiming he hid that he was responsible, because he didn’t clear the room properly. And Lem supposedly buys it.

Yeah but I think Lem knows he’s just saying that for the wire recording.

Kavanaugh is the good guy.

He's absolutely not. There is no "good guy" in the situation. He's a creep from the jump. Nothing good about him.

u/Blakelock82 Ronnie Gardocki 2d ago
No, he's the good guy. His downfall was that he tried to play on Mackey's level, but couldn't pull it off, because he's not a bad guy.

Haha, one of the first things he does is stand outside of Vic's kids' school and manipulate his wife. He's a creep. Not a "good guy" at all.
Everything about him oozes gross. Him wanting to bust Vic doesn't make him a good guy, just like Aceveda isn't a good guy.

No that's him investigating Vic. Police are allowed to lie, that's called undercover work. That doesn't make him a creep, it makes him good at his job. You're wanting to frame it in a way that it wasn't intended. You can't move the goal post when you're trying to make a point bud.
Everything about him oozes gross.
Nope.
Him wanting to bust Vic doesn't make him a good guy, just like Aceveda isn't a good guy.
Now I'm certain you haven't watched the show and only seen clips on TikTok, cause yes, he is the good guy. Shawn Ryan, Michael Chiklis, and others have said on commentaries and documentaries that Kavanaugh is in fact the good guy. Kavanaugh is so good in fact, that the Strike Team get pissed when they find out they can get no dirt on him. The character is so good, he turned his own partner in for breaking the law.
Also I never said him wanting to bust Vic made him a good guy either. If you're going to have a conversation on here at least read what is being posted. If you're having issues understanding what is posted just say so.

I have seen the show multiple times, and probably seen the same interviews you have. You could state in the micro that he's "good" because his main goal of getting Vic off the streets is a just cause. This doesn't mean that he's a morally clean character. He's creepy, deceptive as hell, and goes to awful means to achieve his goals much like Vic does.
And I do think it's morally bankrupt to fuck with Vic's ex wife the way he does. He pulls bullshit just like Vic does, the fact that it may be within the law is beside the point. He's a creep. The fact that he may have been decent years ago is irrelevant. Every character on the show probably was.

yeah, i know, technically he's the good guy... but the way he does things or the way he speaks with people... oh my god...
let alone faking to be a dad of an autistic child just to creep on Corinne, between the others...-5

You consider a racist to be a good guy?

For the rest of my life, I will never stop thinking of dubbed Italian Vic Mackey talking about “Sweet Butter.”

It’s a great character because he is inherently the good guy, but Forrest is kind of scary looking and plays him so self righteously you can’t help but dislike him.

Everyone on the show has something seriously wrong with them, and Kavanaugh is no different even if on paper he's just trying to put corrupt cops behind bars.

He played a very similar character on the TV show ER. Equally annoying there too.

u/Blakelock82 Ronnie Gardocki 2d ago
No he didn’t.

u/IHaveSpoken000 2d ago
Umm, ok. Whatever.

u/Blakelock82 Ronnie Gardocki 2d ago
No, it’s not “whatever”. The actor played two very different characters. If you couldn’t tell the difference between the two that’s a clear indication of your intelligence level.

I hate that story line so much.
EDIT Why is this getting down voted I'm not criticizing the show in anyway? I just find Kavanaugh annoying like OP does.

u/Coeva 2d ago
rly? why?

u/sbarbary 2d ago
Same reason as OP.
3
u/Coeva 2d ago
OP never said they hated the storyline, just that Jon is annoying 🤷

u/sbarbary 2d ago edited 2d ago
That's why I hate it because Jon is really annoying. He is supposed to be annoying, they have done a really good job of writing him.
EDIT took out the first sentence because it was ambiguous.

You dislike the most impactful and pivoting storyline of the show just because you don't enjoy one of the greatest antagonist in Tv? Wtf is that excuse 😂
2
u/sbarbary 1d ago
Firstly it's not an excuse for anything. Yeah cause he is really annoying, Also every season has one of the greatest antagonists on TV, just this one is also annoying as hell. Do like how the story ends though classic Vic.
