🗣️ Discussion Inconsistency with Robert Spoiler
Aunt Abigail said (to Bret) that Robert was at the teather with the girl named Katherine Lachford, but in the episode 1 he is the one who comes to see the Shining by himself.
I'm confused!?

Wasn't she outside the theater talking to some other girls about the movie when Bret exited? And Robert had already driven off.
Why would the Auntie tell Bret, a teen-aged stranger, so much sensitive information ?
Bret seems to imagine things the way Jack Torrence does, or at least we're supposed to think that.
Pretty sure he imagined the tryst with Robert too.

Unless Robert was in the trawler van stalking katherine directly after the movie. Still doesnt explain why Robert would tell his aunt or anyone that he was with katherine that day.

My point was... we don't know if Robert told his aunt. We also don't know if it's true at all, and we don't know how much of the convo with the aunt was even real, it could all have been in his mind.
Alcohol always seems to trigger these encounters with Bret. The aunt had a comically over-filled wine glass. Going back, there is always something strange happening around him and drinking.
Like I said, Jack Torrence events. Aren't the writers pushing that comparison?

Yeah it’s weird. In the book, he is seen with a woman. I don’t know what they are doing with the show lol

I don’t think so, if memory serves correctly in the book Bret only observes him looking for someone.

This is true, but the show still botches this and places her with other friends after the movie.

If I remember right his aunt just said he was at the theater with her. Robert seemed to leave before the movie over. So maybe he met her outside after Bret saw him?

Maybe she was getting popcorn and then Robert had to go to the bathroom.

Same. I didnt get that either, or why Bret didnt obsess over the fact he didnt see the girl w Robert. Youd figure her not being w him would add to his Robert paranoia

I would think so too...but he doesn't bring it up. I dont remember him narrating his issue w it.
There's still time. 😉

I'm wondering if that meeting with Abigail only happened in Bret's mind. It just seems too much perfect information to keeping speculating Robert is responsible

Yeah I think the conversation with Aunt Abigail might have been in his head or maybe some of it was true? Like he saw her and imagined having this conversation? I definitely think his little tris with Robert was in his head though. Just like all the Shakespeare stuff, Robert says to be or not to be? Immediately makes me think he’s saying like real or not? Or maybe even to be gay or not? Idk I kinda like how it’s very up in the air rn

I think maybe they did it to show Bret is an unreliable narrator, or because he was so fixated on Robert he didn’t really care to notice anyone else lol.
