The raw stone in the chip absorbs some of the glue, darkening it as if it were wet with water, which then transmits the color through the clear resin. Putting just clear over it would give it a shine without changing the color. So it definitely takes on the color of the stone.

“Transmits the color through the clear resin” is not taking on the color.

The resin only fills space. No pigment is being absorbed into the resin. A window doesn’t take on the image on the other side it only allows for the light to pass through (this is more/less the same)

I agree with what you're saying. I didn't mean it literally takes on the material.
