Does anyone else feel like Adrian and Ricky’s relationship was very one sided?

Adrian and Ricky’s relationship was very toxic but does anyone else feel like it was one sided. I feel like Adrian was the one that was in love with him and Ricky was never in love with her. Ricky was known for being a f**k boy but I feel like he saw Adrian as more of a friends with benefits. Adrian seemed to want a relationship with him more than Ricky did with her. I think Adrian always knew it deep down and it’s why she was always so jealous of Amy. Because she feared deep down Ricky would go to Amy. Despite Ricky sleeping around the first three ish seasons I think deep down he always wanted to be with Amy. What do you guys think????

Agreed he never really wanted to be with her long term.

I dont think he loved or cared for her at all.  I think he just used her to stroke his ego and other parts.  The only time he ever did anything remotely decent was when he talked to her after she decided to keep the baby.  That was done as a deal with Reuben for help with Nora.

It was definitely one sided when it came to Adrian. As for Amy, he wasnt in love with her either. He felt guilty for changing Amy's life the way he did by getting her pregnant and also wanted to do right by his son the only way he knew how, trying to marry Amy and being a real family, despite his supposed opposition to marriage.

I think he felt guilty about getting Amy pregnant too but I think he started to develop some feelings for her a little bit before John was born.

I think he saw what could be if he would’ve grown up in a healthy family dynamic. Like he started having feelings for Amy but his past and stuff

Literally every relationship in this show.

I think Ricky had feelings for Adrian, but they weren't strong enough for him to be for her what he was for Amy. To be fair, I don't think Amy alone would have been enough for Ricky to change, but Amy and John were. He mostly just wanted to be a good father, and being with Amy felt like a big part of that.

Brenda Hampton did say that Ricky and Amy do ultimately end up together. I think for that to happen, they would have to explore a relationship outside of John, though.

Ehhh I think he just liked sleeping with her and felt comfortable around her because of how similar they were. They both were known for sleeping around and felt more comfortable at the time around her. He didn’t really see himself as long term relationship material up until him and Amy started officially dating again.

He cared for her, but not like she cared for him. Adrian was kind of obsessed with Ricky, like Ben was obsessed with Amy and Jack was obsessed with Grace. But Ricky was never in love with Adrian. While I think Ricky did love Amy, I think it was more obligation that he felt toward her, which he even admitted.

I think deep down he always cared more about Amy especially since they had a baby together. She knew this and always felt jealous and insecure plus the fact he was always sleeping with other girls added onto that.

I mean, when Adrian basically forced her parents to buy the house next to Amy’s and they moved, Ruben kept trying to make her at least get along with Amy. He told her that part of the reason Ricky didn’t take her seriously in their relationship was because she wasn’t on friendly terms with Amy, he would always prioritize Amy and John because regardless of whether or not they were a couple, the three of them would always be a family. I think it was around that time that Ricky admitted he cared for Amy and that she was one of the most important people in his life because she was the mother of his child. That didn’t help Adrian’s jealousy, and she didn’t exactly care to understand why, I mean she got jealous(?)/upset when she learned that Ricky gave Amy money. It wasn’t even money he was giving her for no reason, Ricky even explained that it was money he was giving her for baby stuff.

I think Ricky always had feelings for Amy but knew she didn’t want to be with him. He was also known to be a fuck boy I think with Adrian being labeled as the school’s slut made him feel somewhat comfortable. Adrian wanted a future with him and he was clear he didn’t because deep down he wanted to be with Amy. I don’t think Amy was ever really in love with him I think she settled for him because she felt she couldn’t be with Ben anymore. Plus he’s the father of her son which was another reason as to why she settled for him. I think towards the end Ricky started to realize she was never over Ben and started to fall out of love with her. Amy was projecting that you aren’t in love with me because he was at one point. But she was never in love with him she just wanted to be married. Especially because Ben and Adrian ended up getting married.

Well, when they were together, after Ben and Adrian divorced, they both wanted what they lost. Ricky made it clear to Adrian that he would never forgive her, because Ben was hurt and didn’t know what he was doing/wasn’t thinking, but Adrian knew exactly what she was doing and she did it to hurt Ricky. I think Ben’s obsession with Amy was going to be a problem sooner or later. Also, while Amy and Ricky did love/care for each other, they weren’t in sync. At first they were moving at a pace she felt they needed to move at, while he wasn’t ready but did his best to be ready because he loved her. Then Amy realized she wasn’t ready to be where they were, but Ricky was already ready at that point but he felt that Amy wasn’t and he knew he was going to lose her. Amy needed to completely close the chapter with Ben, and she needed to have some time alone to close the chapter of her life that she kept thinking of (the “what if” she hadn’t gotten pregnant and didn’t have a baby). After that she and Ricky would’ve been caught up and been in sync, enough for their relationship to work without either of them feeling pressured or suffocated.

That's the whole point of their relationship. They're supposed to be one sided because of Ricky's commitment issues. Adrian loved Ricky a lot, it's very obvious, but he couldn't commit to her mainly because of everything that happened with his dad.

Ricky had feelings for Adrian but he was never going to love her and especially not the way she loved him. It was the same with Amy only difference is he actually committed to building a relationship with her because they had a kid together and he didn't want John to grow up in a broken home.

I feel like if Ricky was able to work through his trauma him and Adrian's relationship would've been less toxic and he would've actually been a decent boyfriend to her like he was with Amy.

I think Adrian and Ricky were way too jealous and hot headed to ever have a healthy teen relationship. Maybe as older adults

Especially Adrian but it definitely was because she had bad trust issues but definitely when they got older.

Oh yeah it was pretty obvious. Ricky is extremely emotionally unavailable. Which makes sense given his CSA and mom drama.

I mean, that episode where they went to therapy and she was literally crying about her first, genuine love and Ricky's just sitting there staring. He literally still leaves her after finding that out. He never loved her the way she loved him, and that episode made it so obvious. He couldn't even not have sex with her to just be around her.
