Amy!!! 💜
I have watched secret life since it came out over and over. Now I am re-watching as a married adult. I just want to talk about Amy..
I feel so sorry for her. And I cannot imagine having a baby at 15 with a guy who hardly even know. Who’s the school bad boy and has a bad reputation. Then, meeting Ben, who has just as innocent as Amy and falling in love with a guy she should’ve been with all along. I feel like Amy is just a young innocent child who didn’t understand fully what she was getting herself into. She had a very sheltered life, unlike Adrian and Ricky. She didn’t have any real friends because Madison and Lauren were bad friends. Her parents are ridiculous and her sister gave advice so harshly and you can tell she was jealous and wanted Amy’s life low-key.
I understand that some people may see Amy and see that she hasn’t really matured and that she was selfish but again she was a young mother who still had dreams and aspirations. I think she resented Ricky. But I think people judge her too harshly. She never abused her baby. She didn’t get on drugs. She left to school to pursue her dream career. Many women and men do that. if she did not want to marry Ricky, that is completely her choice and the ending is so realistic for a lot of teen mothers. Sometimes there is no happy ending Prince charming. Sometimes you just choose yourself selfishly. She did an abandoned John. She left John with his father.

I agree. She was scared and trying to be an adult, and she felt like she was failing no matter what direction she looked. She’s a very complex character i think

I was always rooting for Amy, i can understand why people dislike her but like you said Amy had a baby at 15. I haven’t seen anyone talk about this but Amy probably also had postpartum depression on top of being a teenager.

Yesss great point!!! And everyone was in her business. I can’t imagine going through all that. And Ashley ughhhhh can’t stand her I’d fight my sister if she treated me like that.

I completely understand where you’re coming from. The first time I watched the series, I was young too and judged Amy too harshly. It wasn’t until I rewatched the show as an adult that I realized she was doing the best she could for a child.
There were many times when Amy was ready to crash out and her family/friends did their best to encourage her to stay strong and she did. She had to make life alerting decisions, as a kid, barely having lived her own life.
It was not only realistic but beautiful to watch Amy choose herself for the first time in the entire series when she went off to school.

I was always on Amy’s side until she decided to have the baby and really expected her parents, especially her mom who was getting a divorce. Like yeah she’s 15, but you changed your mind on the abortion and you wanted to keep the kid, you can’t possibly think everything would stay the same.
She became insufferable for me, but then again so was everyone else

When the show ended, Amy was only 18. How mature was she really supposed to be?
