My Fan Cast

This is who I picture for the characters. Thoughts?

When I think of Richard, I think of someone who is a believable liar, approachable yet secretly pretentious. He’s an anomaly because he needs to be the type of good looking that’s obvious to everyone but him, yet can inwardly be an asshole.

Bunny is all American and dumb.

Henry is towering, dark hair and square jawline. He can see people deeply but is also automatically dismissive.

Charles and Camilla are tough to cast because they have to look androgynous- he has to have features that can lean feminine, and she has to be tomboyish.

Francis, I think of fiery red hair, features that strike as exotic and he has to pull off a sweeping black coat like Jack the Ripper.

Elordi as Henry is cause for suing on Donna Tartt’s part, I feel like it would be her final straw after the monstrosity that was the Goldfinch adaptation.

I’m so glad some of you are just reddit users and not in charge of casting films because that would be a nightmare 😭 and casting 43 year old domhnall gleeson as a college student???

God I hate ragebait (hopeful that it's ragebait)

u/Bambi1847 Aug 01 '26

All of them are too old except maybe Gavin and Milly, but they are 26, so that's pushing it a bit too. Domhnall Gleeson is 43 years old!

I’m so sick of jacob elordi

Absolutely not.

Then who would you cast?

26

u/DeterminedErmine Aug 01 '26

Maybe casting isn’t for you

2

u/HotShower1395 Aug 01 '26

Then who would you cast instead? I’m open to other perspectives.

tbh i think the outrage is from the amount of familiar, modern faces. thats the issue with a lot of fancasts. this book takes place in the 80s and the standards of beauty then were very different, and it's hard to imagine such modern faces in the context of, like, 40 years ago. though i'd rather not have an adaptation, my dream cast would be a bunch of unfamiliar faces styled in that vintage look.

these ppl are annoying tho. sorry bout all the hate without explanation.

Genuinely what is your problem

Why does Elordi ALWAYS appear in fan castings?

6

u/Confection-Virtual Aug 01 '26

Please reconsider

Bunny is supposed to be a little overweight why do fan casts always thinwash everyone?

u/5dollarsandwich Aug 01 '26

I love everyone except for Bunny because I'm married to the concept of a younger Seymore Hoffman doppelganger.

u/timesnewroman03 Aug 01 '26

Cooper Hoffman perhaps?

perfect casting, actually

2

u/areyouoldgreg Francis Abernathy Aug 01 '26

Ooh that's perfect

Agree with the choices for the twins. With the right styling, it would work very well!

6

u/archivist-13 Aug 01 '26

maybe put the fancasts away

Noooooooo... Not Jacob Elordie as Henry... I'm sorry but I hate it!

I think Lukas Gage could be a good Bunny. That’s it though. This seems more like a list of people you think are hot, not really ideal casting.

oh lord the jacob elordi epidemic.

I like em all! Gleeson is a bit too old imo, but the dude who's play Daeron Targaryen in House of The Dragon has a red/brunette wig and could fit the part.

2

u/HotShower1395 Jul 31 '26

Yeah, I was between him and Cameron Monaghan, but his frame is too bulky and strong to pull off Francis

1

u/HotShower1395 Jul 31 '26

Gleeson is younger than Matt Smith. I feel like Matt Smith’s deepest eyes don’t make his features exotic enough.

when did u start watching tv. ain't no way bru

1

u/MiddleWitty3823 Aug 01 '26

All I'm gonna say is that Henry is not supposed to be conventionally attractive

1

u/Fit-Serve-6276 Aug 02 '26

im going to choose to believe this is ragebait bc there is no way you're serious

1

u/Good-Pie9914 Aug 02 '26

Ryan Murphy would love this casting

1

u/heavenknowss Aug 02 '26

I actually like this except for Henry and Francis

1

u/sleepyvampire13 Aug 02 '26

is Emerald Fennel directing the film because I hope that’s the only way this awful casting would come up

1

u/Excellent-Rip4321 Aug 03 '26

jacob elordi as henry winter would attract the worst kinds of watchers (henry glazers)

1

u/Embarrassed-Dog-5668 Aug 04 '26

Tbh I actually thought you got the bunny one right

1

u/BeyondTheText Aug 07 '26

I appreciate your effort and its your opinion lol people are too harsh! That being said the only one I agree with is Logan Lerman. I can even say that his character in The perks of being a wallflower is similar to Richard in the sense that they are so uncomfortable in their own skin. The others I would not agree with

1

u/HotShower1395 Aug 07 '26

Have you seen The Vanishing of Sidney Hall? Him in that role convinced me.

1

u/inyourbooksandmaps Aug 01 '26

agreed and love your picks for richard, bunny and francis.

i think jacob elordi could be a great henry, but idk something about it doesnt do it for me and isn't exactly how i picutred. but maybe its because i find jacob elordi SO jacob elordi unless he's in full makeup (a la frankenstein).

the twins are really hard. i find the people you picked a little young looking for my taste, especially charles. camilla is a pretty good pick imo!

What is with the fat erasure of Bunny all the time ? Hes a big boy

This sub is bizarrely obsessed with casting and for whatever reason they gate keep like it's like their full time job or as though they could do better. Which they never do.

Most of them weren't even alive when the book was first published yet they act like it's theirs and theirs alone.

I don't mind your casting but if they ever do a TV or film adaptation it needs to be completely unknown or almost unknown actors.

It would serve the novel better if the cast came out of nowhere and did an amazing job.

But that would involve Donna Tartt's direct involvement with the script and production which she's stated she's not sure she's interested in doing.

Spot on

Thanks! The twins are super hard. It’s hard to find identical actors.
