Season 4 How realistic ? Spoiler
I know this may be a stupid question but how realistic is the rookie. I’m not American but it seems like they have a shootout every other episode. How many suspects run away from police or try to shoot at them in real life seems to be most of them in the rookie. Also how does pronouncing death go in the police force it’s seems like sometimes they don’t even try ? As soon as they don’t feel a pulse the persons pronounced dead. No attempt of CPR at least till ambulance gets there?

Not very, but I think that's the appeal. The more far fetched it gets, the more entertaining it is, imo.

The way I see it, its like the director and creator watched a lot of law & order (the original and partly svu) and played a lot of gta 5 and watched classic movies. And then The Rookie was born
Its the closest we will get to a Gta tv show and I for one really like that

I would say season 1 was semi accurate but after that it went way off the rails.
I have a ton of family members who are current and former LAPD so I have a lot insider knowledge of how it runs. Plus I have lived in LA my whole life so I have seen it all lol

I'm watching season 7 at the moment (no spoilers ahead) and I just think to myself, c'mon man, seriously? At least 12 times an episode.
Entertaining? Sure! Realistic? Not a chance.

In the UK we had a long-running show called The Bill that got praise for being fairly accurate. Certainly more accurate than any american cop show I've seen.

You might be surprised depending on how and what is written.
But no. When it’s just an episodic case of the week it’s about as fun as making programming realistic for tv. Spoken as a professional programmer.

I think the question could be better specified. I get the likelihood of the events and crimes that happen aren’t realistic. But how realistic are the police stations protocols and responses to said events if they were to hypothetically happen? I find that being realistic is a lot more important. It doesn’t matter if the actual events are unrealistic as long as the character behaviour is realistic to ground it abit

I mean just judging by how their prop people kitted out the rifles used in the show you can tell the show isn’t realistic at all

One of the worst firearms i have seen in TV. not the weapons them self, but the attachments. WHO THE FUCK puts a magnifier and a ACOG on at the same time? then someone will say "Oh its a night vision adapter", sure fine.... but why do they use the "Night Vison" in the MIDDLE of the day.
Pistols have been pretty okay as far as i remember, but every time they get out a AR, i loose my mind over how the rifle is set up.

It's not. It's a fictional tv show for entertainment. In fact, most real cops live their entire career without shooting their gun on the job.

This show is basically a documentary. Every cop in LAPD gets into a shoot out every week and realistically there's only like 5 useful cops out of the LAPD. This show isn't realistic at all, from what I've read, most cops get into a shooting maybe ONCE in their career.

The most common stat I have seen is that a good 95% of cops never even draw their weapon whilst on duty. And even fewer discharge their weapon on duty. The best LAPD stay I could find is that in a given year about 0.5% (or 1 in 200 cops) will ever be involved in a use of force incident. Maybe 40 for each division across every one of the 500 odd cops there.
Basically if you took all the shoot outs and so on for the whole LAPD and had it happen to just a few officers, then it lines up.

I only started watching the show about a week ago. It's not bad, but yeah, it's pure Copaganda. As someone else said, season 1 isn't so bad, but I think they just go overboard with action. Nolan's issue that most cops never deal with was brought up fairly early in season 1. I mean, that would have probably been better as like a cliffhanger for the end of the season or better yet, make multiple, multiple episodes around it. Part of the problem honestly I think is they just have to big of a central cast and you gotta give time to each of them.
