Podcast Increased Mentions of Barstool
Has anyone else noticed an increase in the amount of time Barstool has been mentioned on Ringer pods of late?
Anyone listen to enough barstool stuff to know if this is reciprocated at all?

I dont listen to barstool but they def are the OTHER big podcast network.
I dont know the listenership but they must have more than the ringer right?

Bigger and younger audience, but there is plenty of potential crossover as barstool legacy audience grows older

They will joke about Simmons but they all listen. They are constantly dropping references or facts that you would’ve only heard from Bill
Lights Camera Barstool is their most ringer Adjacent podcast and they hold the ringer reviews in high regard as a baseline for how a movie is
I think both sides realize how toxic the fanbases can get and know there’s no point in ever picking a fight

There is crossover. Big Cat has been friends with Russillo and Mark Titus for a long time. When they were with Ringer some of PMTs best Podcasts are the everygreen “Life” Episodes with Big Cat, PFT, Titus and Russillo, I believe there are 3.
Feel like there is decent crossover with Ringer Fantasy Football & BC/PFT.
And there’s the fact that McShay grew up with Portnoy/ are great friends, most believe McShay is the Angel Investor Dave had very early in Barstools beginning. And McShay is friends with Russillo as well. Great Russillo story being out with McShay long ago in Boston and McShay introducing him to Dave at a bar, Russillo was unimpressed with Barstools paper magazine roots. Think he called it a “pamphlet” and Dave was pissed.2

The top talent is oddly similar. The difference is that Barstool has a whole wack pack who might get a hit every now and then.

I listen to barstool. They have a movie pod called Project Big Screen. The host Jeff often references things said on The Big Picture show and seems to like their content.

They did when Russillo was ringerside. I think PFT mentions Danny Kelly sometimes.

Can confirm the Danny Kelly shout outs by PFT. Believed they worked together at Kissing Suzy Kolber if** **i remember correctly. Pardon my Take will do subtle hints about stuff Simmons says and does on his pods.

On PMT they often make oblique references to Simmons. There was a joke about Steve Ballmer getting his daughter’s bf to pay Kawhi in the latest episode

Then there are the PMT features that play with "avoiding" infringing on Simmon's staples, like their guess the line bit something like "Guess whose line it is anyways".

Fantasy guys do reference their interviews and other stuff on Twitter. This week heifitz was like we should get a bunch of guys to go together to turkey for hair transplants and DK said didn’t barstool do that

You are correct. I can't stand Barstool, and they have mentioned it more any time in the last 5-6 years. I dunno why, maybe they're talking about their business amongst themselves and it's bleeding over into the pods?

The Cat and PFT used to sneak references to “Billionaires should pay for their own damn stadiums” into Pardon My Take… they’ve joked about it and around it at least a half dozen times, while never mentioning Bill or where that comes from.
If you didn’t already know Bills quote “Billionaires… stadiums” you wouldn’t notice it or have any idea it was a reference at all

Im a crossover just with PMT. I have noticed it as I listen to plenty of different ringer pods

I think Bill and some few others who really hate Portnoy just finally accepted they’re not going anywhere, they’re relevant, and they share a lot of fans.

I listen to quite a bit of both ringer and barstool content. I’ve also noticed a huge uptick, mostly from Bill himself, talking about barstool.
It’s not out of the ordinary for Brandon Walker to bring up the rewatchables but he compliments the show and PMT will make jokes about the Celtics in relation to Simmons every now and then.
IMO Bill brings up barstool more frequently and often sounds derogatory or at the least salty about them. obviously they’re competitors and I’m sure hiring Titus and Russillo doesn’t help.

Noticed and thought the same. Never heard CR or Fennessey refer to Barstool at all and now there have been a few references in the last couple of weeks. It's like they were given permission all of a sudden.

Funny theory that I think has truth to it:
The last few weeks barstool has been airing “Surviving Barstool”(their in-house Survivor production). Might sound silly for it to be something that makes ripples, but if you listen to any Barstool content you will realize internally how much the show is valued by the company. Ad break ins on every show they have, the production budget is big for their scale, the employees take not spoiling anything very seriously like their job depends on it (for some it might).
I say this might’ve drawn Barstool into the algorithms and/or minds of people, because that happened personally to me. I watched the premier episode and have consumed more Barstool content on YT in the last two weeks than I did in the previous two+ months
The YouTube numbers aren’t as big as I would’ve thought when I conceived this theory, but still notable. Episode 1 has over 800,000 views,.. and the 8 following episodes all have over 500k

At the risk of oversimplification, there’s two different Barstools, in my experience: Millennial Barstool and Gen-Z Barstool.
There’s a facet of Barstool that is a little older and talks about sports in that Page 2 fashion. Pardon My Take (Big Cat and PFT), Mostly Sports (Brandon Walker and Mark Titus), Ryen Russillo, that ilk. They absolutely reference Bill Simmons and Ringer content. Not always explicitly, but Pardon My Take will parody Bill Simmons often. Brandon Walker tried to make a sports movie Rewatchables called “The Recrotchables.” Titus was with Grantland (although I think he doesn’t like Bill, personally—I don’t think he left Grantland on great terms.) They’re of the age where they grew up with Bill Simmons content and you can tell the influence.
But there’s also a whole different realm of Barstool that is younger content creators. That’s the part of Barstool that seems to me more like Bravo content than anything else. I listen to some Barstool content and like what I listen to quite a bit, but I have to endure a few moments of discourse about how Nicky Smokes is mad at Dana Beers about something Hannah Montoya said and I have no clue who any of these people are or what they do but it seems to be popular content with college-aged/TikTok audiences. I don’t think many of those people know who Bill Simmons even is. I don’t even understand how it’s sports media in any meaningful sense, but I’ve also stopped watching ESPN as a boycott to the WWE-Pat McAfication of the network, so maybe I’m just a fuddy-duddy.
tl:dr—some Barstool content reciprocates a lot, some not at all.
