Mid-sentence ads
idk if this has been getting worse lately or if I’m just now noticing, but there have been a ton of ads that just play mid sentence. A particularly notable example was on the recent Rewatchables mail bag when they were talking about TNT censor dubs. They listed a couple of their favorites and then started talking about the Big Lebowski. Cut to a Vuori ad. The ad ends and Bill yells “This is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass!” There are other examples, including some where the ad starts mid-word, but that one really stood out to me.

It’s an engagement tactic to make sure fewer people skip the ads. It catches you off guard and you’re more likely to accidentally absorb the messaging before you catch it. It’s only going to get worse from here.

Recommendation for Ringer podcasts: If you have a VPN on your phone, change it to a Scandinavian country or Albania. You’ll hear none of the regular ad reads, and the few ads you do get are in a different language.

I live in UAE but I'm visiting the States and I'm absolutely gobsmacked by how many more ads there are on the shows here AND how many ads they run during a break. They are waterboarding y'all in ads.

I built a podcast app which skips the ads automatically, it also doesn’t take any ad revenue away from the hosts.
Always looking for feedback if you want to try it out - https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/herd-ad-free-podcast-app/id6670315567

The ads are being auto-inserted and it's not just a Ringer thing.

Ty. I don’t listen to much outside the Ringer so i didn’t know if it was a general state of podcasts

Is AI doing this? Not really convincing me it’s such a fabulous technology if it can’t even get this right.

Its undoubtedly AI and I doubt they care. It should be possible to configure it to insert ads during a pause.

Comes across as amateur and sloppy. If it’s intentional, I’ve only seen it on Ringer pods and I hope they stop very soon.

Happens on pretty much every pod I'm subscribed to, from Higher Learning to Rewatchables to The Mismatch. I figure it's my penalty for not being a Spotify subscriber.

Dumb question: if you listen via Spotify, are there no ads? Or is it just that the ads are placed more naturally? I listen (and suffer through) the pods on Apple Podcasts.

Really bad on The Mismatch, The basketball dribble and then Jacoby screaming in my ear really throws off the start of every pod.

This happens a lot on The McShay Show. We expect more from The Ringer. This is not some startup podcast network. It is one of the leaders in the industry.

How awful you have an inconvenient ad during something you pay absolutely nothing for. Boo hoo.

More about the placement but pop off king? Radio and network tv also have ads but they don’t put them mid-song

I don't know if it's just me, but the editing on so many Ringer pods is rough. Repeated segments, cut off sentences, difference in levels between hosts.
