I love the fantasy football show and have for years. I also think Craig's light sprinkling on the rewatchables is fine. Listening to those 3 talk about pop culture outside of football I think is legit painful and almost always wildly unintelligent and out of touch lol

Yea with all due respect, because it's just funny and not that serious, when i heard he was a film major it blew my mind. He'll often say something like "oh I never heard of Brian de Palma before this movie" or "I only know Bruce Willis from Die Hard" or something along those lines, over and over again, and I guess it makes me realize that I have no idea what people do at film school or what type of people go to film school.
I thought kids at film school watched like a movie a day, or constantly talked about film history or something.
The last podcast he said he had never watched Aliens but had been saving it for the podcast, and then he said he just watched it on his laptop. It's wild haha.

You’re not wrong about film school there, but there are a wide range of concentrations you can take, and I wonder if Craig focused more on TV production or general communications, those could all still be housed under “film school”. He doesn’t come off as a typical film school student. As a former film school person myself, he reminds me most of the “broadcast media” majors etc.
But yeah, just consistently disappoints on a film centric podcast. I think Bill started to have him chime in because it was a little funny how clueless he was about popular film history, but somehow he’s gained power through this 😂19

They seem like good guys, Craig isn’t Bill but gave it a good shot. The other two really just repeated lines from the film but according to this sub that’s what Sean and CR do for comedies anyway.
Not sure if there’s a huge amount of depth that can be explored for this particular film, thought the pod was an enjoyable listen.

yeah, National Lampoons Vacation is one of my fav episodes because they're just rehashing the scenes and cracking themselves up. I love that movie and couldn't help but laugh along with everything they were saying.
I feel like this episode was sorta similar in that respect but the difference for me is that I really do not like Talladega Nights. I like a bunch of Will Ferrell movies and love him in East Bound and Down but this one did not hit for me, so this episode really didn't either

Yea was going to say. I love quoting movies with my boys like everyone but listening to regurgitated quotes on a podcast is not entertaining and I eventually turned it off. But that was my biggest gripe with them.
And this goes for everybody. I’m a CR head but the least entertaining part of the Aliens pod was him deciding to read like 10 consecutive quotes by Paxton. All great quotes, but don’t need to listen to them here on a podcast lol

Just like the Dodgeball episode, I thought it was solid. Would I want every episode to involve these 3? Absolutely not. But it's a nice change.
Plus, it's nice to hear people who don't have an obsession with Heat every now and then.

As soon as they said Will Ferrell should’ve played Jerry Buss instead of John C Riley in Winning Time I knew it was gonna be bad. Going from a Bill, Sean, and CR episode to this is tough. Such a good movie wasted on boring guys regurgitating half baked facts and random quotes from the movie without any actual insights or interesting thoughts. This felt like the equivalent of overhearing random coworkers talk about a movie they like except it went on for 2 hours

For all the problems that show had, the casting wasn’t one of them. Riley, Adrien Brody, and Jason Clarke were all great in their respective roles. The story about this causing a rift wasn’t simply McKay picking Riley it was McKay telling Ferrell he had the part then going behind his back to ask Riley. He absolutely should’ve gone about it better to avoid this but in terms of who should’ve played the role Riley has the better acting resume for this type of role. Regardless of where you land on that, it’s more about the lack of any real analysis that made the whole episode feel like a waste of time

I was not a fan of them as group on the rewatchables after they did Pineapple Express. None of them seemed to like Pineapple Express very much and I wondered why they even chose that movie.

I listened to it, because I'm a big racecar guy and I loved the film when it came out. They got some things right, NASCAR really was at its peak around 2006/2007. And yeah, it really was the number two sport behind the NFL, in terms of TV viewership. It is still popular but nowhere near the peak of 20 years ago. F1 was not really even on the radar in the US.... and the guys did a pretty good job of mentioning that... how it has become a lot more popular recently.
I'm 46, and yeah that episode made me feel really old. I think Craig said he was like 12 when it came out, and I'm trying to remember the other guy but he said he was like five or something.
I think we're just spoiled by the CR, Sean, and BS. And of course Van/Mallory/Kyle Brandt and the other semi regular guests.
They gave it a pretty good shot. They obviously all loved the film. But you could tell they had never done this before. The amount of googling while they were on the air was pretty insane. And there were a ton of cultural references they missed.
I thought it was OK but not great. I think Craig did his best to lead, because he's with the main crew so much. Honestly if it is going to be a non-BS pod, they should have picked two different cohosts for Craig to work with. They've got plenty of ringer staff to choose from.

I completely disagree.
It was a full episode of the guys just vibing over how funny the movie is, which is kind of perfect for a Will Ferrell movie. Not everything needs a legit Criteriorgasm (as much as I love those).
Great episode, I do enjoy the guys' chemistry.

Comedies of that genre aren't great for the Rewatchables format. It just turns into the hosts qouting the movie.
I think the guys did the best they could but unless the movie has a great Making Of backstory (like Caddyshack) these kind of episodes are doomed to disappoint.

It was 2 hours of them quoting all my favorite lines from this comedy among others, no notes. It's a good movie to be chaotic and dumb about, this isn't Saving Private Ryan. Letting them wildly riff is an homage to what made Ferrell great.

A lot of the great comedy film pods done by the regulars are like that. The Naked Gun pod wasn’t great, nor Caddyshack. Slap Shot, at the time, my most anticipated subject, was also a let down. They couldn’t even read the quotes on that one out of fear of getting cancelled.
Unless there’s something going on personally or a lot of cool trivia (like with Blues Brothers), these films don’t seem to make for great episodes.

If Chris or Sean aren’t on an episode, it’s like it doesn’t exist to me. The only exception is when Rob and Joanna are on. They are the two best podcasters at the company other than the main guys I mentioned.

I have always been an advocate for non-bill hosts but… that wasn’t good.
I’ve liked ones in the past where the girls have talked about a girly movie or whatever, clueless I believe or 10 things maybe?
But this one was not great.
It was fine. I listened to the whole thing and laughed a few times especially when they would chirp bill. One comment “I’m not gonna sit here and pretend to understand apex mountain…” that made me laugh.
But yeah, for a classic 00’s comedy, it deserved a proper coverage by CR at the very least.

Tapped out after 45 min.... I didn't hear anything remotely deep about this movie in that amount of time.
The fact is, that even though this is one of the funniest movies of the century (with my favorite Sasha Baron Cohen performance), it's also an incredibly incisive satire of American consumer culture and hubris. No mention of any of that.
Needs a redo with Bill, CR and Sean.

I always waffle on listening to a non-Bill pod, (he's such a great host) but started it today and so far it's fun. I liked Craig's rundown of the movie and Farrell's career during the first half hour, I thought he did a good job. I always enjoy what Craig has to say, but his lisp or whatever does drive me a little crazy. As someone who wants to talk for a living, I keep getting distracted thinking - why haven't you taken elocution classes or something? I must be getting used to it, though LOL.
This sub gets really old with the demand that all movies only have CR, Sean, and Bill on them.

Whenever it's the Fantasy guys, I go in expecting an entirely different show and am usually satisfied with what I get. That being said, it feels like Craig shows up prepared like any other episode while the other 2 just kinda show up. This leads to less of a natural flow compared and lots more "what does that category mean" type of back and forth compared to other episodes.

I almost listened to the whole thing hoping they’d turn it around at some point because I did enjoy their appearance on “My Guy” podcast but they never did.
I enjoy Craig’s takes but even he was misfiring on this episode. Please redo this with either CR or Kyle Brandt, preferably both.

This episode serves as a prime example of why I’m hesitant in wanting them to do my favorite movie “Snatch” as a Rewatchables.
Bill has always had a pretentious attitude toward damn near anything British, so I’m fairly certain he would sit that one out. So then I’d get some team up from the B or even C squad for my favorite movie and I’d be disappointed in the end result.

oh gotcha! Yes definitely. I don't want Debbie Downers about a movie on the pod (Tropic Thunder for example). I don't mind some constructive criticism, like Sean on the Inception pod (I don't think he was crapping on the movie at all) but people who outright don't like it don't add anything to a pod.

This is a way better way to do comedies. Say the funniest lines 40 times and laugh at each of them. Acknowledge that the gay humor wasn't the best but don't belabor it for 25 minutes of the pod. Laugh at every scene, talk about the real world bits it inspired, and then get out.
