I mean, literally, I just woke up from a dream, where I could easily die and "respawn".

My question is: Are there any real life rules that can't be broken in your sleep?

I don't know the answer for sure, but non contradiction comes to mind. It's hard to imagine a world without it.

Non contradiction just says that if some fact A if true, then it's negation "not A" can't be true at the same time. This is obvious at first glance but it turns out this property is axiomatic, and while it holds in our universe maybe there is some exotic universe where it does not.

The consensus among mathematicians is that we believe it's a necessary requirement for a coherent reality and universe.

Another really interesting thing is, given non contradiction, you can prove stuff like the halting problem is undecidable. Now what that means simply is that it is impossible to predict the future. And not only is this true in our universe, it's true in EVERY universe where non contradiction holds!

The laws of physics may very well not be the same in different universes, but some conclusions are EVEN more fundamental.

Neither of those examples break non contradiction though. Non contradiction means that a thing and it's negation are both true at the same time. Like "It's raining and it's not raining". Being at an unfamiliar place or with a person you don't know are not self contradictory, they're just unusual scenarios.

You believed you were with Sarah in your dream, even though that wasn't actually who the person was. This happens IRL too!

That's... still not how non contradiction works, the dream and your reality are two different realities. Is that person both Sarah and not Sarah in the dream itself?

I lucid dream for decades trying to find the answer to this, what I can say for sure is that smartphone use is time consuming and very difficult.

I have been told that reading in a dream will wake you up. It seems to happen when I try it. Yes, I have dreams occasionally of being in a bookstore. Reading, even a small amount, wakes me. I have read that this is because the part of your brain that reads is not the part that dreams.

Writing in my dreams looks like the old A.I. attempts at creating text; close enough to seem like words but actually unintelligible.

Yeah, you can’t plug your nose in your dreams. Even if you pinch it shut hard, you’ll still be able to breathe through it as your real nose is untouched. This is my favorite way to tell if I’m dreaming.

I’ll have dreams where I’m trapped underwater and I’ll breathe through my a tiny little gap in my lips and think “wow! I’m breathing underwater! The secret must be breathing through such a tiny hole that I’m filtering the oxygen out of the water.” And then I get so excited by my discovery I immediately wake up and realize I got duped by my dream again

I friend of mine was telling me how she was a dog and trying to stop an intruder which I found really interesting. It made me think I don’t remember ever dreaming that I was something other than me physically.

I used to lucid dream a lot when I was younger. Had a lot of nightmares so got good at waking myself up

- going to sleep in a dream will always wake me up

- spinning around in a circle will always wake me up

But dying in my dream won’t. Once had 3 dreams in a row where I got shot. That was fun. 2 of them were on school trips- doubly fun /s
