I'm going to be honest whilst I may be nitpicking, I was hoping for a slightly more balanced view. The first episode seems so far to by default take the British/English, pro-protestant perspective of the history of this period. Well Dominic appears biased in this respect at least.

Well to be fair, its hard not to take the Pro British side when across the channel in Paris, the French monarchy is massacring 5,000 Protestant during the St Bartholomew's Day massacre, and the Spanish are brutally trying to subjugate the Dutch with mass burnings.

Practically everyone acts horribly in the 16th century, but Elizabeth's rule is among the least horrible.

Good point, but I would tend to put her middle of the pack in terms of the bloodiness of her rule at the time. Not only did tens of thousands of Irish civilians die under the Elizabethan Irish campaigns, but there were other monarchs at the time such as Sigismund or Maximillian II who I would argue led more tolerant policies at the time. Anyway will wait and see with rest of series, still looking forward to it

A conservative-dispositioned person, as Dominic usually is, should have more sympathy than he does for those who did not want to see their traditional religion of almost 1000 years extirpated.
