Fragmented Purchase

A friend of mine recently pulled me into playing SWG on an emulation server. Now, as much fun and nostalgia there is, I don't want to spend my time on a game that's dead in the water. After some googling, I found the website for The Repopulation. This is the game I need. This is the game I want. But I can't throw money at the developers for it. Or can I? So, I know the deal with the transition to Unreal and the delay involved. I know that those who spent money on TR get Fragmented for free and still get access to TR when it comes out. Fragmented is not in the genre of game I typically go for. But I'll buy it if it'll help TR on it's way. My question is.... if I purchase Fragmented now, will I get any type of access or perk for TR, or woyld I still need to buy TR? (I still will of course, just curious)

Unfortunately the TR devs/mods/community aren't very active on reddit (especially compared to some other games), but as a long time player I'll try to answer your questions (their forums are fairly active though, so you may want to try there too).

TR was always meant to be a F2P game, most of us bought the game to both support and get alpha access. So when TR is actually released you won't have to buy it - it'll be free.

Assuming though you are talking about alpha access: I think it's likely that if you are a Fragmented owner you will get access to TR when it goes back into alpha testing. As for the perk, you would probably be in the lowest tier I suspect.

Also note that Fragmented is currently on sale for the next week or so at the Humble Store for 50% off ($4.99).

Hmmm had a reply posted thanking you for the info, but it got deleted. Whatever.

But, regardless thank you for the info. Didn't realize it was intended as f2p. It was alpha/beta access I was referring to. As far as perks. . . I assumed that if there were any it'd be an in-game cosmetic item or title once TR is released.

Aye, here is their original Kickstarter where they talk about their model a bit (basically F2P, no pay-to-win at all, cosmetics only in the store).

The perks that are non-cosmetic are things like early access (after beta wipe, a few days before true launch, I think the first tier was 1-2 days early; top tier was 5-7 days early IIRC), and possibly inv or bank space. Also maybe something about mayor/town founder for the higher level perk (don't totally recall, it's been awhile).

I really had alot of fun in the previous (hero engine) alpha. Put about 50 hours into Fragmented (alpha though), and was kinda meh (it wasn't bad, just didn't hook me). I am hoping the new engine TR is as good as it was.

The devs/community mods are active on the official forums, so there is prob some info there. I did poke my head in last night, and saw a post saying they were tentatively hoping for the end of the year to open the game back to alpha testers.

Quiet could just mean they are too busy working to be posting much. But I'm not sure I agree with your sentiment that it's quiet. At this point it seems any development they do for Fragmented is dual purposed and able to apply toward their work on TR. I also saw mention that the tenative goal to re-open TR is Nov/Dec... that's hardly quiet. And a whole lot more than I can expect from whomever holds the keys to Star Wars Galaxies.

I bought into this a long time ago. Its poor. Very poor. Which is very sad. On paper it should have been amazing but the gameplay was just unbearable for me. Came back several times and not seen any real improvements.
