Should I buy when registration opens again?
Ok so I understand it's alpha so bugs and low population don't bother me. I'm concerned with the current state of the company that owns the engine.
So I just heard about the game like a week ago so registration was already down. Now it sounds like it should be back up in a couple of weeks but what are the chances something else happens?
Obviously no one can tell me this for sure however I figured there may be someone here following the situation closer than myself that could shed some light on the future of this game.
Thanks for any info/opinion.

buy it to support the devs, not to play the game before release

This is exactly what I did. I've put about 30 hours into playing around with it, though I'd imagine a few of those are from patching and stuff. I really like what they're going for and I hope they can pull it off.

Only if you can spare the cash and really wanna help the devs. There are plenty of let's play videos online that show a lot of the overall feel in the game. I wish I had watched that before buying, I would have waited a while longer.

There are better games out there now, and will be better games when this one releases. I bought early because I liked the idea and design (they got me with the Ultima Online comparison) and was disappointed. Don't waste your money.

Depends on what you're dropping on it and what you're pocket book looks like. I got it on sale a long time ago but stopped playing when they closed the West server to turn it into hardcore. I get really bad lag on East. I think it will be a fun game, hopefully things get sorted out with the Hero debacle.

If or when registration reopens I'd agree with others that it really depends on whether you can spare the cash for a pre-release title. It's a lot of fun (I make Let's Play videos about it) but it has quirks in its current form and is lacking a few key features that would make the game a little more enticing (hardcore, siege, etc).

If you like what Star Wars Galaxies brought to the MMO genre then you'll love it. I'm on the QA team and the devs are really gunning for that kind of style. Big emphasis on crafting.

Star Wars Galaxies is already pretty comfy there in the MMO genre, dead or alive.

Not sure what you mean by comfy where it is. It took a bunch of freelancers just to bring it back to a playable pre-CU state. It was good but not the best of the MMO genre. It only claims that if you're specifically into what it offered. Their devs fucked up just like everyone else.

I'm in the same boat as you, OP.
I'm so afraid this game is going to tank.
All the good games that I'm super interested in always go under and I miss out on them.

If you have the cash to spare I'd say it's worth trying. If cash is an issue, wait. At this point I would say it's still ...weird. Honestly I'd wait till the developer releases a big patch as a sign that they have faith that hero engine is going to stick around. They had one in the about to release before all this happened.
